Carlos Tevez takes a break. Cesc Fabregas is fit and may feature in Arsenal’s weekend friendly. Steve Kean finally signs a striker, though may see his skipper depart for North London. Alan Pardew is determined to freeze out Joey Barton and Joe Cole’s name blinks on the QPR radar. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

The Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga drags on this morning. The midfielder has now recovered from his hamstring injury and for the past two days has trained with the Arsenal first-team ahead of Saturday evening’s friendly against Sporting Lisbon. The Gunners are reportedly preparing two first-team photographs ahead of next season- one with their skipper and one without. Fabregas is even willing to take a pay cut to ensure the move goes through but the stumbling block remains a £5m difference in each club’s valuation of the player.

Carlos Tevez is the other big name in the news this morning. City have reportedly extended their skipper’s vacation, allowing him to miss Sunday’s Community Shield clash with United. Tevez’s future remains in the balance, then, and, despite his obvious appeal in Fantasy terms, the City striker will have been crossed off many a pre-season watchlist. He now seems unlikely to begin the season in the City starting line-up when Swansea turn up at Eastlands next weekend

Chris Samba’s Blackburn future is again in doubt as the latest reports suggest Spurs have moved to the front of the queue for his services. A £6 million fee is reportedly on the table as Harry Redknapp looks to bolster his backline. Presumably the Spurs boss has Samba lined up to partner skipper Michael Dawson, with Ledley King’s knee still preventing him from making regular Premier League appearances. Should Samba arrive at White Hart Lane, it’s safe to say that Fantasy managers may look more favourably both on Samba and the Spurs back four.

Blackburn fans can at least take some consolation that their club made their first move in the transfer market yesterday, completing a deal for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie . He is set to make his debut at Kilmarnock this weekend – a full Scout Report on the Scottish starlet will follow later today.

Norwich’s Ritchie De Laet has wasted little in settling into his new surroundings, following his loan move from Man United. The defender grabbed a goal and picked up the Man of the Match award in the Canaries 1-1 draw with Real Zaragoza. At just 4.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) he’s one to definitely consider, for those Fantasy managers undecided over low-price defenders.

While Joey Barton has hinted at seeing out the final year of his contract on Tyneside, Alan Pardew has other ideas. The Newcastle boss is reportedly determined to ensure the midfielder offers no further disruption to first-team matters by forcing him to train alone until his departure. Jose Enrique has closed his twitter account amid reports the club are on the verge of banning all players from using the social media site.

Liverpool’s forgotten man Joe Cole has been offered the chance of a season-long loan deal by QPR. Cole is clearly out of the picture at Anfield and, providing Neil Warnock’s side can afford his wages, would certainly get plenty chances at Loftus Road. With a 6.0 price tag, he’s a budget-friendly FPL option, though many Fantasy managers will steer clear until the situation becomes a little clearer.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

to some extent it depends who else you have...it might be wise to have a £12.0m forward so you can switch to whoever has form and fixtures...so I wouldn't go for Lamps unless I also had a £12.0m forward

I think getting Benayoun is just blind optimism UNLESS there is some reason to think he'll get 30 games

Cool, cheers. I was thinking of going for a cheap(ish) forward combo and splashing out big for a bonus whoring, goal scoring, assist creating midfield. RVP screws that idea up, but he's hard to look past.

Any Chelsea fans out there. Will Drogs or Torres lead the line this year and is Ramires a banked on starter. Chelsea seem to have a reasonable first few games but no one suggesting either two as the the preferred striker. Any thoughts???

Torre will be the predominant striker if he hits form, we won't play 4-4-2 for the majority of games, so that leaves Drogba as more of an impact sub I would think.

Ramires might play but if he does he wont be too attacking. Benayoun looks like a much better option, fits pefectly into the 4-2-3-1 that chelsea have been playing in pre season and he personally has been in top form.

Either. Having at least 1 in my opinion is essential. Can always transfer one out for the other if when form/fixtures dictate.

I prefer Roons fixtures so have gone with him.

My advice now is theres a week left. You've all probably been reading posts for months, tinkering for months etc.

The time is now to make some informed decisions of who you want. Ignore what everyone else is saying, stop posting RMT's and think for yourself. If you have the same team as everyone else, your never gonna come in the top 10,000 let alone #1.

So just assess your team, check for injuries, take a few cheeky punts on who you think will do well.. thats the beauty of the game. And enjoy it!

Actually, if you have the same team as everyone else (and assuming we all captain the same player), hey presto! Everyone is number1!

then all we have to do is make no changes, and 2 million people win tickets and a free shit every month.

It will be interesting to see which players “The Scout” picks out in their first official FPL preview article (i.e. while unlimited transfers are still available).

Form a selfish point of view – or at least the point of view of people on here – I hope they don’t hand on a plate to the masses the “hidden gems” that people on here have identified through research of pre-season games – players like Sessegnon, Moses and Benayoun.

It will also be interesting to see how much whoever is picked out increase in ownership following the article!

    Afternoon Gents,

Can you give me some arguments why I should start the season with Carroll / Bent? I cannot decide between them.

I don't have any other player from Liverpool. From Villa I have Given.

    Bent:
    + set pieces
+ he should be involved in most Villa's goals
    - Villa are less likely to score big than Liverpool

    Carroll:
    - no set pieces
+ Liverpool is more likely to score a lot of goals
    + fixture proof
+ Suarez (most probably) out at the beginning of the season

Can you add more factors? Which one do you prefer?
My other strikers are RvP and Holt.

Anyone else think Chelsea's new signing could have an impact on Benayoun's chances? While a defensive midfielder is fantasy kryptonite he'll be taking the role Lampard has been slated to be in, meaning Lampard is gonna have to fit somewhere and Benayoun's spot seems a good place...

Also, what's happened to Ramirez?? Seemed to be playing well but disappeared lately.

Depends on a lot of things i would say like what language you are using and how complex the thing you are developing

. Since i got into Python i can do a lot more mainly because i can copy other peoples code. There is so much out there that you can take something and edit rather than starting from scratch.

      Hi Soop,

I suppose it depends on how the business runs. Where I work I dont actually get given a set amount of lines to write. Generally I am part of a project that is divided up into work loads and we end up with a deadline date. Basically if you hit that your fine. Doesnt matter how much or little code you write just as long as you hit your deadlines.

In my team at the moment I have got two City defenders (Kompany and Clichy and two Chelsea defenders Cole and Ivanovic)

The rest of my team isnt thaty bad to be honest, and the ONLY reason I have double up on the defence for those two teams is they both have a lot of easy games at the start so could poss rake up point in the first few weeks.
Then for example sell Ivanovic for say Gibbs, and also get someone like Walcott from week 4? any thoughts?
    My team is

Given / Al-Habsi (Al-habsi to play in week one due to easier fixture)

    Clichy, Terry, Kompany, Ivanovic, Wilkinson

    Ferguson, Moses, N'Zogbia, Silva, Sinclair

Zamora, Bent and Drogba (he is another risk I know but could pay off)

    Thoughts guys

      Lay off the meds.

Doubts surrounding Ivanovic and Drogba, too much of gamble getting both.

      Midfield is a little lightweigth.

I should just make this clear to all people leaving RMTs. If you have Ferguson, your team is sh1t.

I was just looking at the same thing.

In all honesty, I think we can say it's fairly likely chelsea and city defenders will get a clean sheet on a given gameweek. I'd say about a 40% chance based on last year, rising for good fixtures.

For the price (same as a low priced mid) I think they're more likely to get you the points. You could go crazy and stick 3 chelsea defenders in. Imagine that, 5 defenders with a good chance of getting you at least 30 points....

Just joined FFS so first time poster. I've been reading some very interesting posts and have gained some wonderful insight into the world of FF.
Not sure if this has been covered or not but I'd be interested in some opinions on the following:

Silva and Malouda vs Lampard and Toure

    My team so far is:

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany, A.Cole, Hughes, (Orr, Simpson)
    Sess, N'Zogbia, Moses, _____, _____
    Rooney/Van Persie, Rodallega, Zamora

I want Chelsea and Man City attacking cover, too.

    Thanks in advance.

I've thought about it but can't decide on a 6mil mid.
I like to have proven players first and foremost and some of the early fixtures rule out a few of the 6mil mids. Guess I've got to take a punt on someone though.

Rafael is a BIG risk, at least the 3 first GWs, cuz Man. Utd is most definitely to concede some goals against, Arsenal & Tottenham, but they only have 1 on the road though..

But keep Rooney, Change out Given to like Schwarzer or something, a 5m goalie, and change Rafael for either; Enrique (Liverpool), Warnock/L.Young.

      My 2 cents

    What's everyone's thoughts on transfers?

Last year I felt my weakness was too many 4pt hits to chase fixtures and I probably ended up worse off.

This year my plan is to not touch my defence or goalkeepers til I wildcard in Jan (barring serious injuries) and then just make an average of 1 transfer a week, often saving the transfer til the following week and making 2 changes for more options.

    Thoughts?

Bruno, this is a great subject. last season I did far too many transfers and had my worst season ever!

I agree with your sentiment. 4 pt hits are no good, especially when the player you just sold scores a hatrick!

"This year my plan is to not touch my defence or goalkeepers til I wildcard"...I think this is a fine plan

as well as that don't get sucked into spending too much in defence...leave money for expensive attacking players...as much as possible try to limit your transfers to them so you have great captains, in good form with good fixtures

if you follow this plan you will need some dirt-cheap players...try to make sure they are nailed-on starters so you don't waste transfers on them
