Carlos Tevez takes a break. Cesc Fabregas is fit and may feature in Arsenal’s weekend friendly. Steve Kean finally signs a striker, though may see his skipper depart for North London. Alan Pardew is determined to freeze out Joey Barton and Joe Cole’s name blinks on the QPR radar. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

The Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga drags on this morning. The midfielder has now recovered from his hamstring injury and for the past two days has trained with the Arsenal first-team ahead of Saturday evening’s friendly against Sporting Lisbon. The Gunners are reportedly preparing two first-team photographs ahead of next season- one with their skipper and one without. Fabregas is even willing to take a pay cut to ensure the move goes through but the stumbling block remains a £5m difference in each club’s valuation of the player.

Carlos Tevez is the other big name in the news this morning. City have reportedly extended their skipper’s vacation, allowing him to miss Sunday’s Community Shield clash with United. Tevez’s future remains in the balance, then, and, despite his obvious appeal in Fantasy terms, the City striker will have been crossed off many a pre-season watchlist. He now seems unlikely to begin the season in the City starting line-up when Swansea turn up at Eastlands next weekend

Chris Samba’s Blackburn future is again in doubt as the latest reports suggest Spurs have moved to the front of the queue for his services. A £6 million fee is reportedly on the table as Harry Redknapp looks to bolster his backline. Presumably the Spurs boss has Samba lined up to partner skipper Michael Dawson, with Ledley King’s knee still preventing him from making regular Premier League appearances. Should Samba arrive at White Hart Lane, it’s safe to say that Fantasy managers may look more favourably both on Samba and the Spurs back four.

Blackburn fans can at least take some consolation that their club made their first move in the transfer market yesterday, completing a deal for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie . He is set to make his debut at Kilmarnock this weekend – a full Scout Report on the Scottish starlet will follow later today.

Norwich’s Ritchie De Laet has wasted little in settling into his new surroundings, following his loan move from Man United. The defender grabbed a goal and picked up the Man of the Match award in the Canaries 1-1 draw with Real Zaragoza. At just 4.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) he’s one to definitely consider, for those Fantasy managers undecided over low-price defenders.

While Joey Barton has hinted at seeing out the final year of his contract on Tyneside, Alan Pardew has other ideas. The Newcastle boss is reportedly determined to ensure the midfielder offers no further disruption to first-team matters by forcing him to train alone until his departure. Jose Enrique has closed his twitter account amid reports the club are on the verge of banning all players from using the social media site.

Liverpool’s forgotten man Joe Cole has been offered the chance of a season-long loan deal by QPR. Cole is clearly out of the picture at Anfield and, providing Neil Warnock’s side can afford his wages, would certainly get plenty chances at Loftus Road. With a 6.0 price tag, he’s a budget-friendly FPL option, though many Fantasy managers will steer clear until the situation becomes a little clearer.

Hangeland may earn many additional bonus points this season, as well as score maybe 2 to 4 goals ... Hughes will not score many, and may struggle for bonus points.

If I could afford it, I would go for Hangeland ...

Need another Striker and Midfielder with 13.5m

Got Rooney and RVP up top. Midfield is Silva, Taarabt, Formica & Moses.

Avoiding Chelsea for the first week, unsure on who'll play where and Stoke away isn't the easiest of games anyway.

    Any ideas?

Who would you put with N'zog? Johnson/Dembele don't seem like a bad option but its just knowing which 1 will play.

Totally avoiding Adam at 9m, think money is better spent elsewhere. don't even think he'll start every week.

It's a shame Dembele is listed as a striker because for 5.5 he'd be an absolute bargain midfielder. He's likely to play either on the left or behind the front two so don't look to him for goals, but will ideally be setting up plenty for AJ and Zamora.

I will be having one of the two as my third forward, keep chopping and changing between them but I think I may well stick with AJ.

I wanted to get people's sense for the new bonus point system.

I've read a number of posts which seems to suggest that defenders and keepers might see an uptick in bonus points awarded, the argument for which being their high standing in the season-long performance index tally.

What I feel these people are missing is that bonus points will be awarded in a game-by-game basis -- this makes the season long totals a bit misleading. What I think may be happening is that goalies may be consistent performance index point earners, a slow but steady collection of index points, but that may not necessarily mean they have the highest points total in any game to get then any bonus points.

To prove this point, take a look at the week-by-week top performance index players. You'll see that the goalie typically ranks lowest in points of the "team of the week" whereas goal scorers typically have much higher scores (read the little blurbs on the bottom and you'll see that most high index earners have scored goals that week).

Bottom line, I think the new bonus point system will actually favor goal scorers more than goalies/defenders, surely much more than the season-long top 100 performance index list would suggest.

    Any thoughts?

I see your point, although there is an own EA Sports team who is the "scouts" this whole season.

And the problem you present is exactly what they wanted to remove by using this new system, so hopefully defenders and goalies will get the extra points, but only time will show.

really looking forward to that article, mark.

i just found it very telling that when i read the blurbs describing the "team-of-the-week," it was goal scorers who dominated the list. while that might seem obvious, i think it indicates a heavy weighting to goals scored in a player's weekly performance index.

nice insight but I don't know enough about this subject to give a full answer. I would imagine bonus points will be mostly midfield players according to my interpretation.

It is my view that most points (including bonus points) and most of your price rises will come in the midfield. I always play a strong midfield and generally 3-5-2

I can't see it being too different

If the team win 4-0 then the attacking players are most probably going to get the bonus points because they scored/assisted/passed well etc.

If the team win 1-0, theres only one goal scorer so the defenders are most probably going to get the points for putting up a good "defensive display"

No chance of N Dyer being dropped for Routledge unless he massively fails to adjust to the Premier. He was our player of the year last year and in most games looks far more dangerous than Sinclair. If Dyer could finish, no one would be talking about Sinclair at all!

ok, so what you are saying is pick a strong team and try to stick with it on the basis that even if they have a bad week they might score big the following week.

After xmas you can play the fixtures much more as the string sides will score heavy against lower order teams

is that kinda what you mean?

I usually never took 4 point hits for transfered but did last year after christmas and worked very well. A lot of it was due to double game weeks though and having to take risks to make up a gap in my mini league.

Captaining Clint Dempsey for a double game week and a 4 point hit to bring in Anderson won me my league last year.

How far forward are you guys looking when constructing your team?

    Rotations etc

There's an argument that further than 19 games is pointless because of the free wild card (and is what I'm using in my spreadsheets at the moment), but obviously transfers can change your team quite quickly.

So what's the 'best' horizon to look at - 3/5/10/15/19 gameweeks?

I'm looking around GW10. Man United's fixtures come good then and I'll be looking to invest in them. Also I want to change my keeper combo, Given/Kenny's nice fixtures start getting trickier at that stage.

Obvious problem with anything short of 19 GWs is that you are opening yourself to forced transfers.

        10 seems a nice round number I guess 🙂

I tend to work in blocks of four.

Pick my team for the first few weeks and try and save my transfers up for the next four week slot.

I usually start looking for prospects 2 weeks an advance of when I want to get them, so I can move money around at my convenience, rather then knee jerking and potentially losing a lot of value.

Boys, its all about those last min transfers, who is fit and what fixtures they have. All those players that are 5th and 6th down the picking order, i.e. "Joe cole" at the moment with Liverpool (ONLY as an example) will be QPR's number 1 picking IF he goes, and there for, he would be considered cheap. This year will go right up to the wire on the last few days..... some bargains still to be had.

        Joey Barton,

        Shawcross possible move to Liverpool.
Sturridge is 4th on the list - he wont be happy with that.
        Bendtner,
        Robbie Keene,
Agbonlahor - if he plays could be a bargain.
        Definately Kevin davis.
        Ba - gone to Newcastle.
Rodallega. (as a side note at this point, have you seen Wigans first 3 games?) I know they are no top 4 team, but they are playing the 3 teams that JUST came up - might be worth thinking bout! 😉
