Wenger Unclear On Latest Van Persie Scare

Robin Van Persie is at the centre of another injury scare on the eve of the season after suffering an ankle knock against Benfica on Saturday.

The Dutchman was forced off the field in the first-half of the 2-1 defeat having given the Gunners the lead with a clinical finish from Kieran Gibbs’ cut-back.

Following the goal, Van Persie suffered a knock on the ankle following a clumsy challenge – the striker played on but was withdrawn at half-time with Marouane Chamakh seeing action.

The extent of Van Persie’s problem remains unclear, Wenger gave us this vague summary in his post-match comments…

“It is an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is.”

We will presumably learn more on the “problem” over the next few days and Fantasy managers will be hoping for some clarity from the Arsenal camp prior to Saturday’s squad selection deadline.

Arsenal also suffered further setbacks on the day with both Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen suffering thigh and back injuries respectively.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Im not sure honestly. I feel its a big mistake by AVB if Drogba doesnt play, but with 50 million invested in his direct competition he WILL be rotated. Malouda is more nailed on but still a threat or rotation, i wouldnt fancy malouda as a captain where as drogba is pretty dam reliable.

      Ive decided im not getting either. Im going to get benayoun, im just as convinced he will play as drogba at least, hes 3.5 mill less and he will be the most attacking player of the midfield 3.

      A.cole the safest option for chlesea defence instead of luiz/bosingwa who may be rotated missing the clean sheet points.
      My worries is about sessegnon,holt.
      If they score or assists or even if they get bonus points it will make an huge impact in transfers markets.But they should do something 🙂

      Starting to reconsider holding onto £1m to upgrade Aguero to RVP in GW4. Chances are that RVPs price would have changed and maybe I should worry about how to get RVP in GW4 than now.

      Use that £1m in my team now instead.

        He doesnt really have any direct competition so i would say yes hes nailed on. TBH his form at the end of last season would suggest hed be first choice regardless of the toure ban. I for one am tempted, he will certainly score more attacking points than kompany and when he does, with the new bonus system he will earn more bonus points as well. Could be an excellent differential i feel.

          He's been a brilliant aerial threat at corners for ages. Remember he scored 8 in his last season at Everton or something. He's probably worth the extra .5 over Kompany if he gets into a scoring mood.

      A quick review of these teams would be great. Obviously one is very attack heavy and the other my original team. What do you guys think am I mad to consider the first, it just looks so good. If you can see some improvements, fire away.

        Looks so good? Looks like youd be lucky to average 2pts per defender and some weeks when the attackers you have dont shine, a few cleanies can save your score. The second teams balance is much better but i would consider downgrading foster to ruddy and get cole/ivan instead of baines and use the money to upgrade elsewhere.

      Maybe it's a Sunday morning thing but suddenly starting to doubt a lot of my players.

      Aguero - will he really start, maybe, maybe not. Could transfer to Drogba or Torres but then there's doubts there too. I guess I could go RVP but I'd be happy without him until GW4.

      So maybe I should spend less and get a regular starter on pens in the form of Darren Bent.

      Getting Bent instead of Aguero would allow me to have Silva instead of N'Zogbia. But leave me no money to get RVP in later on so would have to have another re-shuffle, unless I dropped Rooney.

          That is the quandry. Aguero gets in ahead of Tevez often enough for Argentina, but I can't see it being a regular occurrence at City.

          3 from Tevez, Aguero, Balotelli and Dzeko seems most likely, with Silva prompting in behind, protected by 2 minders. I think.
          That means no place for AJohnson, and no attacking spot for Yaya or Milner.

          Too many players turns fantasy gold a nasty shade of brown.

        Nicely balanced team although I am not sure about the Huth / Luiz pairing.

        Personally, I would downgrade Huth to a 5.0 defender and upgrade Luiz to Ivanovic/Cole.

      After GW3 when you can afford to drop Silva (Fixtures are just about okay-ish. Nothing too special) to get RVP in. Do that. Downgrade No.21 to a 6.5 - 7.5 Mid. And get in No. 10.

      That's what I'm going to do. Sounds okay to me. What say?

        I think you have probably overspent on your defence a little bit, but my main issue with your defence is Hangeland. I just don't see the value at 6.5. He is being priced for his six goals last year but only got 1 goal in the previous two seasons.

        You could easily free up 1.0+. In terms of midfield, I am looking to have two big hitters and if you want to do this you might use the proceeds from above, downgrade Sinclair to O'hara and use the 1.5 to upgrade Yaya to Silva.

          Hangeland was a snap decision based on downgrading Silva. Silva is playing the same role as Yaya, but is more expensive. I don't see the point of paying the extra 1.5 for Silva when Yaya will probably get only a few points less than him. I agree with Hangeland though. I can easily get Hughes for Hangeland. That was my plan but I had an urge to spend that 1.5 surplus!

            Ok. I don't agree about Silva and Yaya but you should definitely downgrade Hangeland. Not sure how to spend the money though as c.8m is a bit of a wasteland for midfielders unless you fancy Downing and doing Carroll to Bent.

        In the preseason loss to Luton, they played the same in the 1st half. Campbell was notionally wide left in the 3 of a 4231. Bothroyd still upfront with Taarabt behind.

        Can't help but feel that Blackburn will be a disaster this year. Threadbare squad, manager is a deadman walking and if Samba goes their defense will start to look very ropey.

        I'm avoiding them.
