FFS Cup

FFS Paddy Power Cup X – Entry Now Open

Fantasy Football Scout are delighted to announce the tenth instalment of our open-to-all, free-to-enter Cup competition, sponsored by Paddy Power.

This is your chance to join our previous winners – donnellyc, Jonty, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints, sleeping master, Mch, Wild Rover, Tdubb05 and reigning champion Gribude in our hall of fame.

This is an early heads up: we’ve given you a two week window to submit your entry, with the Qualifying Round taking place in Gameweek 13.

Seasoned veterans can click here to submit their entry. For full details of when it starts and the prizes on offer, read on…

What is the Paddy Power Cup?

The Paddy Power Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Fantasy manager ranked highest in the overall standing will progress.

When does it start?

The qualifying round will take place in Gameweek 13 but you can enter after the Gameweek is played out. All entries received before Tuesday December 2 will be entered into the qualifying round. In this first cup competition we will have 1024 qualifiers for the first round – those 1015 (plus nine previous winners who will earn a bye if entered) with the top scores in Gameweek 13 will progress to the first round proper to be played in Gameweek 15. Again, FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions.

How do I enter?

Simply fill out the entry form here. You will be asked to verify your FPL team ID – note that, if you fail to confirm your ID, you will not be entered. You will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry. You can also check that you are entered via this list.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying round will be published on Tuesday December 2.

What is the Gameweek Schedule

Each round of the Paddy Power Cup will be played out over the following schedule:

  • Qualifying – Gameweek 13
  • Round 1 – 1024 teams – Gameweek 15
  • Round 2 – 512 teams – Gameweek 16
  • Round 3 – 256 teams – Gameweek 17
  • Round 4 – 128 teams – Gameweek 18
  • Round 5 – 64 teams – Gameweek 19
  • Round 6 – 32 teams – Gameweek 20
  • Round 7 – 16 teams – Gameweek 21
  • Quarter-Final – 8 teams – Gameweek 22
  • Semi-Finals – 4 teams – Gameweek 23
  • Final – 2 teams – Gameweek 24

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round will be published a day or two before each Gameweek deadline.

Are there prizes?

Sponsors Paddy Power are supplying the competition with some great prizes and we’re supplementing these with Amazon Vouchers. The prizes break down as follows:

Winner – £100 worth of free bets. £100 Amazon Voucher
Runner-up – £50 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £25 Amazon Voucher

In addition, the top scoring manager from each round will win a £25 free bet from Paddy Power on supply of their Paddy Power username.

Cup Entrants will need a Paddy Power account and be aged 18 or over to be eligible for some of the above prizes. Prizes are also subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. You can, of course, enter without being over 18 and without a Paddy Power account but will not be eligible for the free bet prizes.

Do I have to enter if I’m a previous winner?

Yes, because your FPL team ID will have changed, we will need to record you entry again. As a previous winner, you will be given a bye to the first round proper.

Do I need to be registered with Fantasy Football Scout?

We ask you to supply a FFS username so we can feature you, as a member of our community, in any articles associated with the tournament. Ideally, you will already have a username with us but this is not essential to enter – you must, however, supply a username for the purpose of the tournament so you can be identified in articles. You must not change this username throughout the course of the tournament, should you do so without permission, or should you enter multiple teams or if your FFS account comes under moderation for any reason, we reserve the right to remove you from the tournament.

Taking a hit next week, might bring one of the transfers forward just to boost my qualification chances...

My transfer would be Tadic -> Downing, could be stupid to do that this week (and if I am going to, I really should have done it earlier to catch rises).

You'd be sorry if I drew you and beat you by 3 points 😉

Hello all. Best way to get Aguero in for Pelle after the next gameweek?

    3.6 ITB

    Forster, (McCarthy)
    Dummet Ivanovic Chambers (Wisdom Walters)
    ADM Fabregas Downing Sanchez (Schneiderlin)
    Ayoze Costa Pelle?

    Thanks in advance.

    Aguero or Costa captain?

Im thinking with City playing Munich midweek, Aguero will be used with caution but perhaps the same could be said with Costa but their champs league game isn't as important

Looking back at their previous games ahead of midweek UCL, there is nothing to suggest this. Both are likely to get 75-80 minutes and come off with their team comfortable.

Everything tells me to captain Aguero. Partly his form but partly his stunning home debut against Swansea. But Costa has had a nice long rest and has great home form.

I've looked at WBA and Swansea and away there really isn't much in it. They are both tough cookies and don't concede a lot of chances - but Aguero and Costa don't need many chances.

Currently Aguero for me - but may switch to Costa at the 11th hour.

    6. Doolittle
      • 11 Years

I don't have Costa, but even if I did I'd go Aguero. He's so central to everything City do, and City have been so poor recently that you expect he'll have to pull something out of the bag for them to get goals. They need to get back into the title race, and they need Aguero to basically do it for them. I'm sure they won't rest him.

You'd imagine Chelsea could win without Costa grabbing the points (still think he'll score highly mind).

If one of them outperforms the other and hindsight kicks in, I hope we can look back and say that really there was no right choice.

Unless Aguero scores a hatrick, in which case it was obviously going to happen.

At least with Aguero you'll get baps when he scores. Costa is a bap repellent.

Aguero for me - Swans will have Bartley in again and this game will be a different one to Arsenal (h) who looked very jaded. Think Chelsea may try and ease through the game as usual with one eye on CL - City are too shaky to risk this strategy...

If Bartley performs well again I certainly might pick him up for a few weeks punt - pending on if Naylor and/or Williams fall off the rope...

I'm going with Aguero - simply because Costa can share goals with Hazard, Oscar etc - whereas Aguero seems to be the primary threat at City and seems to be on the end of everything.

Alexis Sanchez looks a very dangerous Captain's pick given Man Utd's injury list, apparently even DDG is a doubt. Going to have to wait till Friday but it's between Sanchez and Costa for me.

In a league, if you have a really crappy GW followed by a mega haul, you will probably get a net green arrow. In a H2H tournament, that would get you eliminated.

But if you just have steady 'decent' scores each week in the league you generally come out on top. Do the same in the cup and you run the risk of getting clattered by a maverick on a good week. Either tactic requires a good chunk of luck each GW - equally so I reckon. Basically it's all luck. Anyone who has ever won it is lucky. Not skilled. Lucky. 😉

You do need dull consistency but as you say luck plays a huge part. My cup run coincided with one of my best ever runs - great scores every week. I basically went with Drogba and Lampard as captains most weeks and it paid off. By luck many I was up against captained others like RVP or Rooney who didn't quite perform.

I've barely made it out of the opening two rounds since partly because 've never had such a consistently good run over a short set of gameweeks like that since.

Guessing anyone who wins has a similar story - it's the nature of such things, luck plays a big part for everyone but you still have to give yourself the best chance possible.

I may go back and research whether any of the previous winners of this or the members' cup played in a maverick style. I imagine the records get a bit hazy once you go back more than 2/3 years though.

I see your point, there is a degree of luck. I don't agree that's it's 50% chance of meeting a maverick on a mega haul week though. I think it's much less.

You get an amazon voucher too. Just chuck the whole free bet on one game and then cash out the winnings

Why not? You can increase those winnings! And if you really don't care, throw £100 on something you think is certain and make a small profit.

I'm not a big gambler but did enjoy the free bets when I won. . I used to bet on players scoring that I feared and didn't own. so every time I had a gameweek slump I was quids in. Also found that fantasy football knowledge helps - eg knowing that some defenders are more likely to score a goal.

Hmm.. With the cup in mind, it's better to take hits this week
Or save 1 FT to next week and see if Costa is clear to play.

Naylor, Fab, Pelle .. 4 YC
    Baines .. Injured

Late thought are these but not sure if it's worth hits.
A: Baines, Fab, Welbeck > Azpil! Chadli! Costa (-8)
    B: Baines, Pelle > Dummett, Costa (-4)

After looking at my def rotations, I only really needed Coloccini for GW 12/15/17/19/21.
And Yun has repectively New/BUR/WBA/CRY/Bur these GW 🙂

It means: do it, right ? Even if its Qpr..
