It’s a short, sharp Scribbles we offer this morning as the tension ramps up ahead of tomorrow’s big kick-off. Aston Villa hope to bring back on old face in Thomas Hitzlsperger, while Roy Hodgson believes in Owen Hargreaves’ fitness. Alan Pardew offers an olive branch to Joey Barton and Tony Pulis is looking for six new players as Stoke square up to Europe. Here we go, folks:

Jose Enrique is set to sign a four-year deal with Liverpool today. Kenny Dalglish’s search for a left-back looks to now be over and with one year left on his Newcastle contract, Enrique’s transfer is thought to be around the region of £6m. More importantly, as far as Fantasy managers are concerned, Enrique is priced at just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and can be expected to see plenty investment on the back of this move.

Alex McLeish has been linked with a move for Thomas Hitzlsperger. The Villa boss admitted yesterday he would need to trade players before making any further acquisitions but with the German available on a free, a return to Villa Park may not be out of the question. As Big Eck went on to say:

“Thomas’ name has been mentioned against a number of other players. If it came to a choice, we’d have to think about everything if we were able to get that choice. Maybe in midfield, in terms of experience, we are a little bit lacking.”

Roy Hodgson has offered Owen Hargreaves a contract at West Brom. The ex-Man United midfielder has seemingly proved his fitness to the Baggies boss and is now mulling over a move to the Hawthorns. Hodgson’s take on the situation is:

Look, we’ve done the test, we agree with you that the knee’s OK and you can play football. And of course if you’d like to come and play for us that would be lovely. But whether or not our offer is going to be interesting to him, that’s what I don’t know.

Stoke are in the market for six new signings, according to Tony Pulis . Speaking this morning, the Potters boss admitted he was looking to strengthen the club’s options up front before the end of August. With a bid in for Peter Crouch as well as Spurs team mate Wilson Palacios, it looks like being a busy three weeks ahead on the transfer front.

Both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri won’t feature tomorrow for Arsenal. The duo were left out of Arsenal’s squad for the trip to Newcastle by Arsene Wenger and their respective exits from the Emirates are edging closer by the day.

It looks like Joey Barton may still have a part to play at Newcastle, after all. Only a week or so ago, there seemed no way back for the midfielder after the twitter debacle that saw him criticise the club, but Alan Pardew is willing to offer him a chance if Barton can prove he’s willing to give his all:

Joey will determine whether he stays. I’ve told Joey that he won’t play for me and I won’t include him unless I think he’s pulling for us. If Joey turns around to me and says that’s what he’s going to do, then he will. He’s in the process of weighing up what he needs to do.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Wasn't Kompany top of the EA Sports index? If he was then surely he will get lots of bonus points and you can also keep him in all season, just wondering if Lescott is a better option. If Kompany whores the bonus like the stats suggest then I think he is the best option.

Exactly same thinking between Silva and Yaya. 9.5M is a lot for someone with same output but EA Indexically weaker than an 8.0M Yaya.

I'm finding picking City players very boring, I actually fancy Swansea to do alright on Monday but obviously am going to cover in some way as I could be very wrong and City could smash them. As we can't choose Tevez/Aguero there are hardly any options, 9.5 for Silva seems way too much, he is consistent but won't get into double figures.

Oh right, even so you can keep Kompany in all season, Lescott you will probably need to shift at some point, can see rotation with Toure returning and Savic.

Kompany played every minute of every game. Don't be fooled into thinking he will be BP whore. He just played the most. BP's are a sprint, not a marathon. No goals, no assists = not interested.

    Think ive got it sorted.

Ive Lescott in my defence plus 0.5 spare which allows me to get which ever Chelsea defender other than Cole or Terry looks to be regular.

Ive also gone for some else at 5m other than Enrique for now as he unlikely start this weekend and obviously GW2 isnt that favourable for him but he may have even dropped in price by around GW3.

    Hi guys,

I am in Japan and just putting the last touches to my team as we get to the end of our day here.

Can you guys flag any major problem in my team?

    Given - Ruddy
    A Cole - Kompany - Hughes - Simpson - Orr
    Silva - Malouda - O'Hara - Sinclair - Moses
    Rooney C - Carroll VC - Holt

    My issues:
-I would like to get Kenny/De Laet instead of Ruddy/Orr but I don't have the 0.5 extra. Where could I get it from if worth it?
-Is my MF strong enough? I sacrified a NZog or Downing to get Carroll which offers me flexibility to get Suarez or RVP next to Rooney later on. And I feel like Carroll could score vs SUN.

Thanks anyway and good luck to everyone.

I think it is worth the 0.5 extra and I already have sinclair...

I have opted for RVP over Rooney - he consistently scores well when he starts.

There are a few changes you could make to free up funds if you fancy a bit of risk.

A.Cole -> Bosingwa (I'm convinced he will start, but it's only 5.5m if he doesn't and Orr has a nice home match to cover for him)

You could then downgrade moses to a 4.5 in order to get N'Zogbia in.

Thats one option but it is a bit risky.

Your team looks pretty solid though, even with an extra 2.5 million to spend in midfiled, it is hars to find where to spend it.

        Given
        A Cole – Kompany – Hughes - Orr
        Silva – Malouda – O’Hara – Moses
        Rooney C – Carroll VC

WHo can I downgrade Moses/Sinclair/O'Hara to?

I'm sure everyone's in the same boat, frantically trying to make last minute decisions. I thought I was all set, but now I'm having a crisis of confidence. I won't bore you with the whole team, just the two I'm mulling over.

    Downing + Rodallega

    or Moses + Bent

Bent's first game isn't as promising as Rodallega's but he's probably the better bet over all. I know Moses is a good shout but it seems crazy to get him in in place of someone worth 3.5M more...

Maybe Moses + Rodallega for GW1 then get Bent in after that...

Travelling to England to see newcastle match, pity about fabs and nasri not being there. Suppose newcastle have a better chance 😀

And I'm neutral in FF at the moment too!
