Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again as Fantasy managers prepare for a quick turnaround in fixtures ahead of tomorrow’s 7.30pm deadline. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With Diego Costa suspended for Chelsea’s home encounter against Spurs, Sergio Aguero is the standout armband candidate according to the votes cast so far. Despite failing to score in back-to-back matches for the first time this season, the City talisman has earned over 35% of the votes cast as the champions travel to a Sunderland side that has conceded just two goals in the last four and kept the league leaders at bay on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney is next in line as United look for a fourth straight win under Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils’ skipper has netted in successive league matches and is up against a Stoke defence that has been breached in each of the last seven – he’s persuaded over 16% to give him the nod. Robin van Persie remains a real differential for the Potters’ clash, with just 3% looking to the Dutchman to carry on from last weekend’s goal and assist at home to Hull.

Swansea are heavily backed for the visit of QPR – understandable, given that Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded more goals on their travels than any other team. With six goals in his last seven, Wilfried Bony earns 11% of the votes, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is next in line, having played a part in eight of his side’s 11 home goals so far.

Eden Hazard (7%) and Alexis Sanchez (5%) are also amongst the favourites. With Costa sidelined, Chelsea will be looking for the Belgian to score for the fourth successive home match as Spurs roll up to the Bridge, whilst Sanchez’ owners will be hoping for a return to form – he’s now blanked in each of the last two since being moved back to the flank.

Predict the scores of the following:

Baines - Hull (H) - Mirallas sharing set pieces
Hazard - TOT (H) - No Costa, Hazard strong at home
Sigurdsson - QPR (H) - QPR are weak away, Swansea strong at home
Aguero - SUN (A) - History says it will be low scoring

There's usually a negotiation with the clubs so the countries don't take them for the full time they're entilted to.

Di Maria -> Mirallas. I was set on that since early Saturday. Gutted he's become popular.

I think I'm benching Costa. I'm waiting until line ups before making my decision.

I think I may follow suit with the Mirallas transfer( 😉 ), although I do have concerns over his fitness and the way Martinez will handle him over the festive period.

As for Costa, are you sure you want to keep him?

Red card waiting to happen by the looks of his recent performances, assist and baps potential near non-existent, poor recent injury record along with a congested fixture schedule coming up. All points to sell....and Rooney is in hot form, Stoke at home next, Liverpool coming soon. Costa to Rooney looks ideal right? 😉

He's the leading striker of an incredibly strong Chelsea side. He could pop up with 2-3 goals in any game.

              I'm not decided yet.

I like B but not for a hit, and especially not when you have Wisdom as cover for AdM. You've already took two price drops on the chin with AdM I'd just start Wisdom, save, and reassess before the weekend.

      @ Waldo
      C) Some Man C coverage would be pretty good but outside of Aguero & Yaya it's punty pickings unless you take a hit. That leaves AdM > Nasri/Milner/Lamps which don't rock my boat, but downgrading will leave funds to upgrade Costa or even Rooney to Aguero.
Thoughts but not a great help sorry.

If so, would the following transfers be a good option for a -4?:

    Di Maria -> Jedinak
    Austin -> Rooney

    Current team is as follows:

    De Gea / (McCarthy)
    Baines / Clyne / N. Taylor / (Wisdom) / (Duff *)
    Di Maria * / Hazard / Downing / Sanchez / (Boyd)
    Aguero / Austin / Bony

My captain hasn't scored or assisted in 7 weeks and I will be selecting him aswell. Currently ranked 4601 and would be top 50 if I always captained my vice (who is Aguero). Make of that what you will. Good luck!

Thoughts on Lloris -> Elliot as a FT? Or would Costa -> Rooney be a better use of it?

McCarthy. Take it you're not an advocate of Costa -> Rooney?

Not really, seems a bit short term. Given your options I'd go for someone like Guzan instead of Elliot, or bring in Elliot for McCarthy so Lloris can return when fit.

How long is Krul out for?

          1. Deep Sea Amphipod

Lloris is playing, it's just that having 5.6 tied up in a keeper bringing in f*** all is rather irritating.

Krul is supposed to be out for 4-5 matches more I believe.

Yeah, McCarthy to Elliot, or Lloris to someone with the fixtures. Elliot has a fixture this week then four shockers in a row before Krul comes in. You only want to burn one FT on a keeper.

Strong, with some fun curveballs. I like it. Obviously anything you can do to strengthen that bench without throwing cash at it would be good.

    Keep ADM or Costa?

It will be easier for me to get ADM back so thinking to get rid of him, and then go without United attack for Stoke and Soton games.

You have to dump ADM surely. Whether you dump Costa or not is THE big issue of the GW.

If he goes he is only out for 3 games, I will want some united after Liverpool (H) so GW17 onwards.

I am planning on a 3 week ADM replacement

Dont this with costa earlier and likely to do with adm. His price is plummeting
