Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again as Fantasy managers prepare for a quick turnaround in fixtures ahead of tomorrow’s 7.30pm deadline. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With Diego Costa suspended for Chelsea’s home encounter against Spurs, Sergio Aguero is the standout armband candidate according to the votes cast so far. Despite failing to score in back-to-back matches for the first time this season, the City talisman has earned over 35% of the votes cast as the champions travel to a Sunderland side that has conceded just two goals in the last four and kept the league leaders at bay on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney is next in line as United look for a fourth straight win under Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils’ skipper has netted in successive league matches and is up against a Stoke defence that has been breached in each of the last seven – he’s persuaded over 16% to give him the nod. Robin van Persie remains a real differential for the Potters’ clash, with just 3% looking to the Dutchman to carry on from last weekend’s goal and assist at home to Hull.

Swansea are heavily backed for the visit of QPR – understandable, given that Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded more goals on their travels than any other team. With six goals in his last seven, Wilfried Bony earns 11% of the votes, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is next in line, having played a part in eight of his side’s 11 home goals so far.

Eden Hazard (7%) and Alexis Sanchez (5%) are also amongst the favourites. With Costa sidelined, Chelsea will be looking for the Belgian to score for the fourth successive home match as Spurs roll up to the Bridge, whilst Sanchez’ owners will be hoping for a return to form – he’s now blanked in each of the last two since being moved back to the flank.

Who to play out of my defenders?

    Baines / N. Taylor / Clyne / Wisdom

    Pick 3 please.

I think they'll create more chances against Tottenham than Man City will against Sunderland away.

Always the chance of penalties. More of a differential.

My ranking shouldn't have anything to do with it.

My gut says Hazard. I may be wrong, I just think there's a few logical reasons why. One against it is that Spurs played really well in their last game. If they play like that again they won't concede their usual 3-4 goals against sides like this.

I thnk it's the best choice. Got away lightly not captaining last week even though all the signs were there. GUy singlehandedly beat Bayern for God's sake. What more does he need to do to convince people?

Do you guys think Sterling + 4 will beat Sanchez this game week?

If the answer is no, I'm taking the hit.

Sanchez is the best midfielder in the game for goal threat.

      1. Owd Big 'Ed
        • 16 Years

So that follows I should take the hit, tonight, before the price rise.

I need to learn more about strategy before I can be considered a top player at this game. It blags my head some times. Almost like a game of poker.

    2. Walsh
      • 12 Years
      11 years, 1 month ago

I think that is a poor hit to take if you can absorb the price change. Alexis may score and Sterling blank, but it could just as well be the other way around as Sterling looked threatening against Stoke. In general I don't really like taking a hit for a healthy player and a good fixture unless the player I am bringing in I plan on captaining.

Heyup all, scratching my head over these transfers, any help would be appreciated:

    A) ADM > Oscar
    B) ADM > Eriksen
    C) ADM > Downing
    D) ADM, Clyne > Hazard, 4.9 def (-4)
    E) ADM, Bego > Hazard, 4.4 Gk (-4)

    Already own Alexis, Fabregas, Siggy

I really like Martinez. I like his philosophy and he seems a great guy too. His speech at the Hillsborough anniversary was really heartfelt.

I like Mourinho, Wenger, Pellegrini, Koeman, Bruce, Martinez and Monk.

I hate most of the others though. Obviously Arry is dreadful but I seriously can't stand Mark Hughes he's the worst manager for blinkered vision and excuses not to mention he's just a really sh!t manager in general. Pardew, Allardyce, Warnock are hateful for their own reasons. Can never understand a word Lambert says and hate the way both LVG and the media continually blow smoke up LVG's hole.

with his history of collecting packages of money?
              of leaving clubs in tatters?
yanking up short term wage bills on useless players?
trashing his own players in public?

His teams are always terrible to watch. Moans and whines a lot more than most. Frequently comes up with idiotic statements like he'd find it easy to lead Man United or Barcelona despite his medieval style of play, because he managed to keep Blackburn from relegation. And he loves himself.

I actually think LVG is very honest about stuff which I quite like. I find Mou hilarious (though frustrating from an FPL point of view).

Not many I really dislike, a lot bring something to the league. Maybe Pardew can be a bit of a twat. I also think Poch got a lot of credit for Soton even though a lot of the supports were already built when he came in, though that isn't his fault. Rodgers irritated me a little bit in his refusal to acknowledge glaring errors that have been in the team for the last season and a half.

Hi guys, good to go? I did ADM --> Sterling instead of ditching Costa. Thinking of doing Costa --> Rooney at some point though.

    Guzan
    Baines | Cahill | Naylor | Dummett
    Hazard | Sterling | Sigurdsson | Downing
    Berahino | Aguero

    (Myhill | Wisdom | Marney | Costa*) 0 FT and 1.4m ITB

Getting rid of ADM, for the next 3 games would you purchase...

1 - Fabregas (TOT, new, HUL)
2 - Oscar (TOT, new, HUL)
3 - Eriksen (che, CRY, swa)
4 - Downing (wba, SWA, sun)

    DDG,
    Clyne Chambers Yun Wisdom
    Hazard Sanchez Siggy ?
    Aguero Austin

    Hamer Marney Moore Costa

Will decide on if I fancy Costa--->Rooney for -4 tomorrow or to play Yun/Marney instead. Will plan to get ADM/United attack after LIV(H) in week 17

I think this is it. It seems like we are being jipped, but it's a fantasy game for free. It's not like we all had to pay money beforehand or some kind of risk and these lads just coasted in later when they knew they were safe
