Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again as Fantasy managers prepare for a quick turnaround in fixtures ahead of tomorrow’s 7.30pm deadline. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With Diego Costa suspended for Chelsea’s home encounter against Spurs, Sergio Aguero is the standout armband candidate according to the votes cast so far. Despite failing to score in back-to-back matches for the first time this season, the City talisman has earned over 35% of the votes cast as the champions travel to a Sunderland side that has conceded just two goals in the last four and kept the league leaders at bay on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney is next in line as United look for a fourth straight win under Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils’ skipper has netted in successive league matches and is up against a Stoke defence that has been breached in each of the last seven – he’s persuaded over 16% to give him the nod. Robin van Persie remains a real differential for the Potters’ clash, with just 3% looking to the Dutchman to carry on from last weekend’s goal and assist at home to Hull.

Swansea are heavily backed for the visit of QPR – understandable, given that Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded more goals on their travels than any other team. With six goals in his last seven, Wilfried Bony earns 11% of the votes, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is next in line, having played a part in eight of his side’s 11 home goals so far.

Eden Hazard (7%) and Alexis Sanchez (5%) are also amongst the favourites. With Costa sidelined, Chelsea will be looking for the Belgian to score for the fourth successive home match as Spurs roll up to the Bridge, whilst Sanchez’ owners will be hoping for a return to form – he’s now blanked in each of the last two since being moved back to the flank.

Sanchez and Fab the only risers?

Want to bring in Guzan this week and Azi the next week but can't afford Azi if he rises tonight.

Azpi is on 84% on FPLstats, so you never know, he might rise 😐

I can afford a 0.1 rise from Azi this week but will mean I can only afford a 4.5 keeper going forward. Hence no Guzan. I wait it out and see.

Why are so many people dumping ADM and Costa?

Costa is just suspended for one game?

ADM is only def out this game, should be a quick return?

Cause the injuries has cost us way too many problems. If I don't take both out I'll be left with 9 players. I rather take hits to have a chance to try get more points. Plus they are several ready made replacements available currently.

        Hmm fair enough i suppose,

And Rooney is the obvious replacement right? Whats the story on him? Will he def play?

I hope he plays. I'm banking on him and I can't afford to wait for the lineups to transfer him in. He told LVG he is fit. Plus he is the captain. So I guess yes?

ADM I understand. He hasn't produced the type of numbers to justify that price last 4-5 gw.
Costa imo is a bad transfer. One game suspended. He is probably the most consistent player this year.

I agree, however with ADM out, i feel you need Rooney and then a chelsea mid is opened up, so I can see why people are leaning towards both.

Yeah I speak more from my team then anything having Fab Costa and ADM. Then moving ADM to Siggy to get in Rooney.

I saw a lot of talk about Costa and ADM to Rooney and Haz = which isn't a bad move at all.

I see your point. Form vs price right now is not ideal and with options such as haz and fab on chelsea it's hard to argue with those transferring him out. I have had him since gw 1 to much invested so he seems to be a season keeper for me.

No news on AdM but it could be longer, certainly 2 games based on the potential injury. There's too much choice out there to hold onto him.
I'd have shifted Costa if I hadn't already done so, output falling & don't fancy him to play every minute over Christmas schedule.

    Schmeichel (Krul)
    Baines, Azpi, Chambers (Wisdom, Yun)
    Sanchez, Haz, Siggy, Boyd (Chadli)
    Aguero, Rooney, Austin

    0.9 ITB, 1FT

Opinions: Should I be saving this week?
Was thinking I could do Krul to Elliot this week which allows Chadli to Eriksen next.

If clyne can get you Azpi, then that would be a strong move.

Otherwise, Clyne against arsenal is not a bad fixture. Gunners seem to find a way to mess things up, and we know Chambers can get caught out of position down that flank. Moore out needs to happen sometime soon.

I feel the time is right to repost my poem from earlier in the season...

'Twas the 29th of August, 2014,
In predicted Chelsea lineups, Costa was nowhere to be seen.
He's injured, they said, kick him out the door,
So, I did just that, for Emmanuel Adebayor.

My confidence was high, for Liverpool could not defend,
And the Togolese striker scored a goal, just the last weekend.
Diego himself was also playing, a team from Merseyside
However, long story short, the fantasy gods were not on my side.

As a Chelsea fan, I should've been ecstatic with our start,
After a Costa goal in the first minute... I didn't feel smart.
I watched in discomfort, as more chances fell his way,
I sat back and pleaded "Sub him off Mou, that's enough for today!"

Another goal later, I was sad, I was down,
I stared at the TV, I felt like a clown.
Spurs played the next day, losing 3-0 to Pool,
I looked at my team, Ade grinned at me like a fool.

I was ranked 249th, and spent hours planning my team everyday,
But two weeks after selling Costa, I was out of the top 100k.
One thing I learnt from this, was selling DC is NOT the way,
I know he may be injured, but he may also be okay.

So, sell at your peril, good luck if you do,
I won't try change your mind, the decision's up to you.
Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to sound mean,
But have fun being trolled, by Chelsea's number 19.

      Good luck 😉

There could be a high chance that Yun plays according to HR presser. Or it could be a delusional owner like me thinking that way.

Should I do Moore and Clyne to Cresswell and Terry(for hits) or wait till tommorow? -_-

I'd just trade out Moore for whichever of those two you can afford. Don't like those trades for a hit.

ADM -> Oscar & Costa -> Rooney for a -4? Can't afford the Haz swap and Fab on 4 yellows.

As long as he actually doesn't explode. That would be a major Hazard

Coleman and Chambers or Azpil and Koscielny?

I like the first one but how long will Chambers keep his place with Debuchy coming back?

Don't look back Don, Eriksen's a great choice at that price range. Just at look at hose BAPS he claims when he finds the net 😉
Good long term prospect in any case, well played
