It’s a short, sharp Scribbles we offer this morning as the tension ramps up ahead of tomorrow’s big kick-off. Aston Villa hope to bring back on old face in Thomas Hitzlsperger, while Roy Hodgson believes in Owen Hargreaves’ fitness. Alan Pardew offers an olive branch to Joey Barton and Tony Pulis is looking for six new players as Stoke square up to Europe. Here we go, folks:

Jose Enrique is set to sign a four-year deal with Liverpool today. Kenny Dalglish’s search for a left-back looks to now be over and with one year left on his Newcastle contract, Enrique’s transfer is thought to be around the region of £6m. More importantly, as far as Fantasy managers are concerned, Enrique is priced at just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and can be expected to see plenty investment on the back of this move.

Alex McLeish has been linked with a move for Thomas Hitzlsperger. The Villa boss admitted yesterday he would need to trade players before making any further acquisitions but with the German available on a free, a return to Villa Park may not be out of the question. As Big Eck went on to say:

“Thomas’ name has been mentioned against a number of other players. If it came to a choice, we’d have to think about everything if we were able to get that choice. Maybe in midfield, in terms of experience, we are a little bit lacking.”

Roy Hodgson has offered Owen Hargreaves a contract at West Brom. The ex-Man United midfielder has seemingly proved his fitness to the Baggies boss and is now mulling over a move to the Hawthorns. Hodgson’s take on the situation is:

Look, we’ve done the test, we agree with you that the knee’s OK and you can play football. And of course if you’d like to come and play for us that would be lovely. But whether or not our offer is going to be interesting to him, that’s what I don’t know.

Stoke are in the market for six new signings, according to Tony Pulis . Speaking this morning, the Potters boss admitted he was looking to strengthen the club’s options up front before the end of August. With a bid in for Peter Crouch as well as Spurs team mate Wilson Palacios, it looks like being a busy three weeks ahead on the transfer front.

Both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri won’t feature tomorrow for Arsenal. The duo were left out of Arsenal’s squad for the trip to Newcastle by Arsene Wenger and their respective exits from the Emirates are edging closer by the day.

It looks like Joey Barton may still have a part to play at Newcastle, after all. Only a week or so ago, there seemed no way back for the midfielder after the twitter debacle that saw him criticise the club, but Alan Pardew is willing to offer him a chance if Barton can prove he’s willing to give his all:

Joey will determine whether he stays. I’ve told Joey that he won’t play for me and I won’t include him unless I think he’s pulling for us. If Joey turns around to me and says that’s what he’s going to do, then he will. He’s in the process of weighing up what he needs to do.

Downgrade Hughes and upgrade Ferguson. Doesn't make any sense to have a player like him.

Other then that it doesn't look bad.

Looks great to me, only missing RVP but that's a chance worth taking given Arsenal's current situation. I would consider Demba Ba instead of Rod.

Think I am finally done, would you guys care to pick this apart for me?

    Al-Habsi (Given)

Bosingwa, Kompany, Hughes (Orr, De Laet)

Young, Malouda, Ramsey, Taarabt (N Dyer)

    RVP, Carrol, A Johnson

    0.5M in the bank.

I know Bosingwa is a risk for the start - but I have Orr at home vs Bolton to come in for him. If he is not starting I will go for Jagielka / Rafael (if he's looking to get starts).

I find it hard to believe so many are hesitating over Suarez just because he may not play the full 90 mins in GW1. Unless you plan to WC in the first two weeks (and I certainly don't) surely we should pick a squad for the first part of the season. Assuming you can just transfer him in after GW1 or 2 is dangerous - you will probably find by then you have other priorities through injuries, transfer targets etc. At most, I would think about not captaining him on the strength of Kenny's comments this morning.

Still, the more that shy away before the off, the more his price will soon shoot up....so I am not going to lose sleep over it!

I'm going with Caroll though my ultimate plan was to go with Suarez. I'm hoping he doesn't get too many minutes on the pitch if he plays at all then all the half hearted fantasy football followers will ship him out and hopefully drop in price a shade. All them 0.1's add up eventually.

AP - he is firmly on my watch list, I am thinking he will start quite a few games this season, but I will be holding fire on that one until I see it for myself.

Could do a nice Taarabt -> Cleveryly and free up 1m in the process once UTDs fixtures clear up and he has claimed a starting role.

I'm getting married tomorrow and so need to get my team sorted today. Therefore apologies for the RMT and the generic team but I need to play it safe. I can't be tinkering up until 11:30 as I would like to! Team is:

    Kenny (Given)
A Cole Kompany Simpson (Bramble, Orr)
    Malouda N'Zogbia Taarabt Moses (O'Hara)
    RVP Carroll Zamora

Very generic I know but I think there are a good range of players in each price range to transfer in/out.

    Any thoughts/advice?

Great team. Would maybe be abit worried about no City attacking cover. O'hara is also injured.

Congrats! Good team too, I'd play Given in goal as I imagine you have him in for save points and he'll have plenty to do against Fulham, then play Orr over Simpson, I don't fancy Newcastle keeping a CS against Arsenal!

        Thanks for the congrats everyone.

I didn't realise O'Hara was injured. Who is good for 6m? Sinclair as a punt?

Also good point on Given in and Orr In.

        Cheers all!

well as EVERYONE should be made to do, & as ive said for years- RMT's should be banned and kept for the final 2 days of the break. Would be a good sense of anticipation around them then Anyway,

    given foster

    Enrique, Kompany, Huth, Bardsley, Orr

nani, malouda, Nzogbia, Moses , Pennany

Rvp, Roddallega, Holt. 1 mil in the bank.

    What you reckon ladies?

I find it laughable that you jank on RMT's and post one in the same breath.

Down grade Foster and your front line looks suspect at best...that's just me though. Dont have any attachments to my opinion for I dont 🙂

    Given (Ruddy)
    A. Cole Kompany Gabbidon (Brown Simpson)
    Moses Silva Nani Taarabt (Sess)
    RVP Carroll AJ

I'm very close to sorting my team but not quite happy with it. Is the defence to weak? And is it too much of a gamble having no N'Zog/Bent or Malouda/Drobga given their fixtures in GW 2&3? Considering downgrading A.Cole to Bosingwa - good move/bad move?
