Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again as Fantasy managers prepare for a quick turnaround in fixtures ahead of tomorrow’s 7.30pm deadline. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With Diego Costa suspended for Chelsea’s home encounter against Spurs, Sergio Aguero is the standout armband candidate according to the votes cast so far. Despite failing to score in back-to-back matches for the first time this season, the City talisman has earned over 35% of the votes cast as the champions travel to a Sunderland side that has conceded just two goals in the last four and kept the league leaders at bay on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney is next in line as United look for a fourth straight win under Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils’ skipper has netted in successive league matches and is up against a Stoke defence that has been breached in each of the last seven – he’s persuaded over 16% to give him the nod. Robin van Persie remains a real differential for the Potters’ clash, with just 3% looking to the Dutchman to carry on from last weekend’s goal and assist at home to Hull.

Swansea are heavily backed for the visit of QPR – understandable, given that Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded more goals on their travels than any other team. With six goals in his last seven, Wilfried Bony earns 11% of the votes, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is next in line, having played a part in eight of his side’s 11 home goals so far.

Eden Hazard (7%) and Alexis Sanchez (5%) are also amongst the favourites. With Costa sidelined, Chelsea will be looking for the Belgian to score for the fourth successive home match as Spurs roll up to the Bridge, whilst Sanchez’ owners will be hoping for a return to form – he’s now blanked in each of the last two since being moved back to the flank.

      Watch us win 4 nil.

I do doubt Kun blanks three in a row.

He is RIPE for a goal.

Not for me though. Too many home bankers on offer to captain Kun at Sunderland

If i captain him, he will score 2.

However, on the other hand, I see Everton either:

        1) keeping a clean sheet.
        2) Baines scoring/assisting
        3) Both

which makes me feel Baines > Kun.

How does this look? I want to but don't want to trade out Costa for Rooney

    Foster (Krul)
    Baines - Terry - Hutton - wisdom
    Hazard - Sanchez - siggy - chadli/cork
    Austin - Aguero

    Chadli/cork, Bruce, Costa
    1 FT 0.0 INB

Who to bench, chadli/cork? Both will start is my feeling, I think cork has a good chance of doing something this weekend (just my feeling)

It's not definite, just my opinion. Martinez showed last season that he rotates his mids/forward a lot and I remember on a few occasions Mirallas scored and the next week was on the bench. He may start but I wouldn't take the risk.

I'm keeping Costa. Many are selling for Rooney/Bony.

Anyone, especially Newcastle fans, think Raylor will start again now he's had a cameo on return from injury?

I'm hoping Saylor will start but due to injuries to Newcastle not sure he'd keep a CS anyways

I would. Elliot's a doubt so Newcastle could be playing their third choice keeper plus the have a lot of other injuries/suspensions.

    Chaps, need your thoughts.

    Captain - Bony (QPR-H) or Aguero (Sun-A) ?

    GK - Fabianski (QPR-H) or Elliot (Burnley-A) ?

Any suggestions? I feel like I'm wasting money having Clyne sitting on my bench.. Would you downgrade to get more funds or change to someone completely new?

    Heaton
    Baines - Chambers - Azpi
    Siggy - Sanchez - Fab - Downing
    Aguero - Austin - Costa

    Elliot - Clyne - Boyd - Hutton

Well Costa is out this week so you'll play Clyne/Boyd in his place. Can't see a cleanie for Arsenal so benching Clyne isn't a bad thing.

If I'm in a mini league and I'm second what should I do today? The chap above me has a crap team but keeps putting aguero as captain, should I put aguero and slowly slowly catch him up or shall I try and blow him out of the water with a baines captain that might blow up in my face and go behind him even more

Now is the time for maximum points not differentials. Wait until the run-in for that.
