We’re almost there. After three months, countless RMT’s (That’s Rate-My-Team for our new readers), a whole host of injury scares and the regular gamut of transfer talk, the season is now just hours away.

This means just one thing- it’s time for a host of the Fantasy Football Scout team to start off one last debate by sticking our necks on the line with predictions for the year to come. As evidenced by last year, our choices can range from the sublime to the ridiculous – let’s see how the cards fall for 2011/12…

I, Andy, kick things off by singling out teams and players I am not perhaps known for endorsing. Towing the party line, then, I’ve done everything I can to make my predictions as impartial as possible. Not believe me? Look- no Fernando Torres…

On FPL the threads go on forever and ever, down and down, scroll wheel after scroll wheel gets worn out.

Also thank you to FFS for having black text on grey rather than light grey text on lighter grey.

I feel obliged to post my one and only RMT of the pre season as it all kicks off tomorrow!

    Team is:
    Given | Ruddy
    A Cole | Kompany | Simpson | Orr | Tate
    Nani | Silva | Taarabt | Sessegnon | Moses
    RVP | Carroll | Holt

Seems like a well balanced team with two big players in each position and I am happy with it!

0.5 in bank in case I want to do Nani -> Malouda or Carroll -> Drogba for those two great fixtures Chelsea have GW2 and GW3

I know Ruddy, Simpson, Orr, Tate, Taarabt, Sessegnon, Moses and Holt are all gambles in a way but the other 7 players who all solid will play week in week out so should get off to a nice start hopefully.

    Any helpful comments welcome 😀

Hangeland will outscore Hughes but not absolutely horrendously.

If you had 10.5m who would you go for in midfield, choices for me at the mo are Malouda, Nani or Young, have ruled out Silva, not sure why but just think the other 3 will outscore him in first 5-6 weeks of season.

I have also plumped for a front 3 of Bent, Drogba (was toying and still am with Suarez!) and Zamora.

Rest of team Al Habsi (Given on bench for 1 GW)
Alex, Rafael, Kompany (Enrique and Simpson on bench)
Downing, Nzogbia, Moses (and either Malouda, Nani or Young) Reo Coker (sub)

    Thoughts appreciated.

Malouda has better fixture than any of the three. So if I could choose: (Malouda, Nani, Silva, Young) <- in that order. Nani will be the favorable player in the first half of the season. So there shouldn't be a rotation risk for now. I still don't understand your logic behind Silva. He's relatively cheap and his stats the last half of the season where huge. Malouda doesn't really have competition at Chelsea so he should be good a pick. For 4.5 I would take Dyer for Swansea instead of Reo Coker

And I'm sure you realize this but you're defense blows. Although Alex will start against Stoke I doubt they'll pull off a clean sheet. Plus he's at risk of rotation or not playing at all after Luiz comes back. Rafael is also under heavy competition and is likely to be at risk of rotation.

So basically you left with Enrique (who shouldn't start tomorrow), Simpson (who has a shaky defense) and Kompany as you're primary defense after gw1.

Unless you don't want to use you're wild card early on, I suggest you get Hughes for Rafael and then switch Alex to Luiz after gw1.

        Or

You could switch Rafael to Hughes and Alex to Clichy then upgrade Reo Coker to a 5m MF.

There's 10 opinions on several points above - which is a useful set of data if you assume weight in numbers.

The opinions around Rooney and RVP don't quite stack up for me, but certainly some insight for picking out budget players.

Budget Keeper: 8/10 go for Given - no solid 2nd place
Budget Defender: 5/10 for Enrique - no solid 2nd place
Budget Midfielder: 2 each for Sinclair; O'Hara; and Tarabt
Budget Forward: 5/10 for Ba; 2 for K Davies

The only real surprise is probably the love for Ba, but it's making me consider him. Enrique also seems a no brainer, but I'll give him a week or two - his price should be fixed for a bit at least.

Top overall points scorer: 6/10 Rooney; 4/10 RVP
Top bonus point: 4/10 RVP; 2/10 Rooney
    and
Top goal scorer: 7/10 RVP; 2/10 Rooney
Top assister: 2/10 Ashley Young; 2/10 Stewart Downing

Strange that Rooney is more favoured to be an overall to scorer when RVP is more favoured to get more bonus points and be top goal scorer.
Interesting that after those two not really any other player entered the scheme of things for being the best player - one vote for Aguero to be top scorer.
Also interesting looking at the assists, indicates there's not too much consensus on picking out expensive midfielders.

Nice summary, thanks. I was quite excited about Ba's prospects but have since had to drop him for a cheaper third striker...shame, really.

Don't have Rooney or RVP and wondering how much that will hurt, too. Time will tell. The tinkering has to stop somewhere! 🙂

I take it as Vorm will go straight into your team aka a strange collection of DMs and orphanage players? 😉

I know MMW, just messing with you there. I admire your courage to have your whole team of 'differentials'. I guess drinking a good deal of good wines does help huh?

Surely a must have in a few weeks
