Robin van Persie scores twice as United see off Southampton to move into third. Wayne Rooney and Dusan Tadic bag an assist apiece, whilst Graziano Pelle’s first goal since Gameweek 8 isn’t enough to prevent the Saints slipping to another defeat.

Van Persie at the double

At a time when Sergio Aguero owners are looking for a likely exit route, the United frontman stepped up with a deadly brace to fire his side into third spot last night. There’s no doubt that Van Persie has toiled under Louis van Gaal so far but his recent form suggests he may have turned the corner – that’s three goals, an assist and four bonus points in his last trio of appearances now, and at 12.4 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he is certainly affordable for those holding Aguero. Upcoming opponents Liverpool, Villa and Newcastle have all tightened up in recent outings, though, and with far cheaper options offering better form, the 2%-owned Dutchman may remain a differential for now.

Rooney Ticks Over

The England international arrived at St Mary’s in decent form, having scored in each of his last two league outings. Handed a role alongside Van Persie as Van Gaal turned to a 3-4-1-2 formation, Rooney’s dead-ball duties came to fruition after he provided the assist for the Dutchman’s second. Whilst his minutes have been diminished by suspension and injury this term, Rooney has been relatively consistent for the Red Devils – he’s now scored or assisted in six of his last eight in the league. With Radamel Falcao remaining on the bench for the 90 minutes, Rooney’s more advanced berth may well turn a few more heads, with a 10.4 price tag far easier on the budget than Van Persie’s.

Pelle Ends Goal Drought

The Italian was back amongst the goals at St Mary’s after firing his first strike in seven Gameweeks. Pelle has dropped from 8.5 to 8.1 in recent weeks as his woeful form persuaded plenty to look elsewhere but last night’s strike served a reminder of his abilities and took the Saints summer signing up to second spot amongst forwards in the FPL game. An assist from Dusan Tadic – his first points since Gameweek 8 – suggests Ronald Koeman’s main men still have the potential to deliver ahead of a run which pits them against a trio of opponents (bur, EVE, cpl) that have been far from convincing at the back.

Saints Stutter Again

It’s four matches without a clean sheet now for Ronald Koeman’s side as the stern fixtures prove a test too far. Having conceded just five times in the first 11 Gameweeks, Southampton have since shipped seven goals in the subsequent four, and with Toby Alderweireld joining the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Jack Cork in the injury room, their toils look set to continue. Koeman’s defence face Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and United in the next six and may be best avoided until the schedule smiles kindly again in Gameweek 22.

Not sure. I think if you are going for Yaya then I'd probably look for another forward - plenty of options at that price.

I could only afford one price drop for Kun, one more & I'd be brooding seriously. Got Dzeko instead of Bony (I already have Costa). Dzeko was City's 3rd highest scorer last season - played 3 games less than Yaya, scored 4 less (Bar Dead Ball situations)

    Jedinak Hazard Siggy Downing Alexis

    Costa Dzeko (3-5-2). Good enough?

Dzeko is a good shout, only concern is fitness levels over the hectic Xmas schedule.

I'm waiting to watch the Roma game, might go for Silva in a 3-5-2 instead.

wish I could afford to wait. silva is a good shout in his own right. Dzeko should pull through the festive period, if he comes unscathed against Roma. fingers crossed here.

Very close between them. If had to plump I'd say Bony for the next three fixtures, but Dzeko probably has the higher points ceiling.

I agree. The only thing that's slightly putting me off Bony is it means parting ways with Siggy for Yaya but Bony should cover his points.

So, since I can take only one more Aguero drop, I must make a decision by tomorrow.

    Team's like.
    Adrian, Myhill,
    Azpi, *Chambers, Dummett, Hutton, Yun,
    Hazard, Sanchéz, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Boyd,
    *Aguero, *Austin, Rooney.

Keeping Austin, and playing Boyd is on my mind, so just need to get a -4. Options are:

    A. Chambers ➡ Zabaleta, and Aguero ➡ Costa (-4)
    B. Chambers ➡ O'Shea, and Aguero ➡ Costa (-4)
    C. Chambers ➡ Baines, and Aguero ➡ Benteke (-4)
    D. Chambers ➡ Baines, and Aguero ➡ Bony (-4).

Want to play it safe, and do A or B, but would consider your opinion.

    Cheers. 😉

Could someone please advise me on my transfers for the coming week? This gameweek really killed me with injuries and suspensions!!! Current team:

    Fabianski/Mannone*
    Azpi - Yun - Hutton - Wisdom - Chambers*
    Sanchez - Eriksen - Boyd - Siggy - Fabregas*
    Aguero* - Costa - Austin*

0.0 itb and 1 free transfer. I'm thinking Aguero to Dzeko and Mannone to Panti? Good choice?

I was also thinking of maybe swapping Fabregas for Hazard for -8? Too much?

Bringing in a City defender next week....

    a) Kompany
    or
    b Zabaleta

Kompany is more secure but on 4 yellows. Zaba may get rotated the odd game with Sagna, but has more attacking potential.

True but I just feel kolarov and clichy will be rotated a lot more than zaba/sanga, albeit for £1m less risk.

My thinking is that Kompany could miss a game through suspension, whilst zaba could miss one through rotation. Guess it balances out.

I got his as a captain punt last GW against Stoke, which was a fail.
Pleasant surprise with his brace last night.
I am not going to sell, but wouldn't buy if I didn't have him.

        That's nice.
Yeah, that seems sensible, I was wondering were many feeling knee jerky with Kun needing to be replaced

If you can avoid taking a hit this week you will have a 4 point headstart over most people next week I think

I hope you have an acceptable qualification to back it up. Otherwise it's just numbers

When the GW details come out on FPL discovery a lot less people seem to take his than you would expect.

I reckon around -2 to -3 of hit points taken in the top 10k on average.

Interesting. Thought most would have had them forced upon them this week. I know I have

So I have Guzan (wba) in goal:

    Who do you bench:

    A) Taylor (TOT)
    B) Hutton (wba)
    C) Wisdom (VILLA)
    D) Creswell (sund)

    Hmm?

Should I be looking at ways to get rid of Clichy as Kolarov is back or keep him till the Jan WC?

Wouldn't rush to get rid of him. Just monitor it and if he starts missing out reguarly then get rid. The only plus point of owning clichy over kolarov for instance, is that clichy will either give you 90 or 0, so at least your subs can come in.

Clichy has served me well but an extra transfer problem during the festive period is not what I wanted. Can't get rid of him before next week and I'll probably have more pressing concerns by then anyway so he'll be stuck in my team

    A: Dzeko and Eriksen
    or
    B: Kane and Toure
is what I've narrowed it down to.

B means I can nicely rotate Downing Siggy Austin and Kane over the festive period, A gives me a benching dilemma each week.

Silva in the team makes it more likely Yaya plays deeper

He makes Yaya worse, but not much.

Shots are roughly the same with Silva on the pitch, but key passes take a nose dive.

Not worth the hit--and I'd say not even worth the transfer. Downing could equal Yaya's haul the next couple of games. And for significantly less too.
