Robin van Persie scores twice as United see off Southampton to move into third. Wayne Rooney and Dusan Tadic bag an assist apiece, whilst Graziano Pelle’s first goal since Gameweek 8 isn’t enough to prevent the Saints slipping to another defeat.

Van Persie at the double

At a time when Sergio Aguero owners are looking for a likely exit route, the United frontman stepped up with a deadly brace to fire his side into third spot last night. There’s no doubt that Van Persie has toiled under Louis van Gaal so far but his recent form suggests he may have turned the corner – that’s three goals, an assist and four bonus points in his last trio of appearances now, and at 12.4 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he is certainly affordable for those holding Aguero. Upcoming opponents Liverpool, Villa and Newcastle have all tightened up in recent outings, though, and with far cheaper options offering better form, the 2%-owned Dutchman may remain a differential for now.

Rooney Ticks Over

The England international arrived at St Mary’s in decent form, having scored in each of his last two league outings. Handed a role alongside Van Persie as Van Gaal turned to a 3-4-1-2 formation, Rooney’s dead-ball duties came to fruition after he provided the assist for the Dutchman’s second. Whilst his minutes have been diminished by suspension and injury this term, Rooney has been relatively consistent for the Red Devils – he’s now scored or assisted in six of his last eight in the league. With Radamel Falcao remaining on the bench for the 90 minutes, Rooney’s more advanced berth may well turn a few more heads, with a 10.4 price tag far easier on the budget than Van Persie’s.

Pelle Ends Goal Drought

The Italian was back amongst the goals at St Mary’s after firing his first strike in seven Gameweeks. Pelle has dropped from 8.5 to 8.1 in recent weeks as his woeful form persuaded plenty to look elsewhere but last night’s strike served a reminder of his abilities and took the Saints summer signing up to second spot amongst forwards in the FPL game. An assist from Dusan Tadic – his first points since Gameweek 8 – suggests Ronald Koeman’s main men still have the potential to deliver ahead of a run which pits them against a trio of opponents (bur, EVE, cpl) that have been far from convincing at the back.

Saints Stutter Again

It’s four matches without a clean sheet now for Ronald Koeman’s side as the stern fixtures prove a test too far. Having conceded just five times in the first 11 Gameweeks, Southampton have since shipped seven goals in the subsequent four, and with Toby Alderweireld joining the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Jack Cork in the injury room, their toils look set to continue. Koeman’s defence face Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and United in the next six and may be best avoided until the schedule smiles kindly again in Gameweek 22.

Someone posted a stat yesterday saying they've been something like 98% accurate with rises this season and 96% with drops. You won't get a more accurate price predictor site than that.

Can't believe aguero is double dropping.

Surprised so many jumping straight onto the Sakho bandwagon. Was hoping his price would hold for at least this week. Still even if he rises to £6m he's still cheap as chips.

Was looking at Rooney for Kun, but after last night I think its Bony for me. Utd didn't look convincing at all and Saints gifted them the first.

I reckon Pelle played himself back into form last night too. Can see him getting a double figure points haul against Burnley.

He had 8 shots which is impressive, and 3 or target.
He is wasteful, but with so many shots when luck goes his way the points will come.

Worth taking a -4 for Aguero + Siggy -> Yaya + Dzeko, leaving me with:

    Guzan (Given)
Baines - Hutton - Wisdom (Yun - Duff)
    Downing - Hazard - Yaya - Sanchez - Wanyama
    Costa - Dzeko (Austin)
    AND 1.2 itb

Or Bony instead of Dzeko? But Man C have som nice upcomming fixtures..

After some tactical advice - I'm up to the heady heights (by my standards) of 27k after this week and want to aim for top 10k now. Any insights into how to achieve this effectively? Captain choice for this GW has to be key.

Current line-up for this GW (which is a bit template in my mind) is

    Courtois
    Hutton Clichy Clyne
    Hazard Sanchez Sterling Downing Siggy
    Costa Rooney

    Gilks Naylor Moore Austin

If you're after security then just go with Costa (c) like the majority will. The rest of your team is good so a green arrow is pretty inevitable

I've never seend anyone not captain a player cos they're worried the opposing keeper might save a pen. You're looking too much into it mate.

Why not? He is the only big man they have now that Negredo has left. Jovetic can't play up top on his own.

After Aguero's price drop last night cost me 0.1m, my main transfer plan of:

Aguero, Marney & Chambers >>> Sakho, Yaya and Clichy

Leaves me with 0.0 ITB. It could be now or never. What do you think?

I'm unconvinced by sakho and Clichy. The latter will rotate with kolorov, former with Valencia and or Carroll. He just had a back spasm because he was playing too much. Big Sam will rest him at some point over Xmas. I'm sure of that.

There are certain players that are less likely. E.g. benteke. Villa would be nuts to start without him. Picking players where there are very capable replacements is a mistake over Xmas imo.

My H2H opponent has thrown me into disarray due to him taking a -12 hit.
    My current team:

    Guzan - Foster
    Clichy - Clyne - Baines - Dummett - Azpi
    Boyd - Eriksen - Hazard - Sanchez - Downing
    Austin - Dzeko - Bony

    Already done Aguero > Dzeko.
Any clue what should i do, only playing H2H rather than rank so don't mind hits?

If Jovetic is fit, what do people think Pellegrini will do up front?

Can he start with only Jovetic? Or will Dzeko have to start either way as Jovetic is not really a 'lead the line on his own' type of player?

Its pretty complex I suppose. I would never put Jovetic up front alone personally. But then again Leicester are so bad at everything.
I would like to think Dzeko would start as he is the fitter. CL game should be an insight.

I think against Leicester he will play both up top. From memory when they both play together doesn't Jovetic outscore him?

Dzeko safer long term though i think.
