A tasty home tie with the bottom-of-the-table team saw Fantasy managers transfer in Arsenal players in their droves prior to today’s games, but thanks to the heriocs of Rob Green, the vast majority will be bitterly disappointed.

The West Ham keeper made a fantastic 10 saves as he kept the Gunners at bay time and again before Alex Song finally made the breakthrough for Arsene Wenger’s side with an 88th minute header.

On the back of last week’s impressive 3-0 win at Eastlands, Samir Nasri was acquired by 172,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, Marouanne Chamakh by 107,000 and Cesc Fabregas by 48,000, as many expected a rout against Avram Grant’s strugglers. Indeed, our Captain’s Poll was fairly indicative of this optimism, with all three being in the top four slots for Gameweek 10.

Song, on the other hand, was brought in by a mere 4,000 managers, despite his goal at Man City last Sunday. Bearing in mind he is owned by only 2.6% of FPL bosses, the fact he has outscored the aforementioned players shouldn’t, therefore, have too much effect on the overall team rankings.

Song has now found the net 3 times in the league already this season, and given that his previous season’s best has been 1 goal, he’s showing a fair eye for goal this time round. He seems to have been given a remit to roam further forward than he’s used to, and so far it’s paying off.

Arsenal have now won their last five games in all competitions, but are making hard work of things at the Emirates in the league of late. Their last three home matches has seen a loss and two wins by just the one goal against opponents they have been expected to dispatch of with ease. Gameweek 11 allows them the opportunity to remedy that, as Newcastle make a trip to the Emirates.

Results elsewhere mean the much-maligned Green can take no consolation at all in his display, as fellow strugglers Wolves win over Man City gives them a three point gap over the Hammers at the bottom. Still, there’s always a bright side, Rob. At least you don’t do this every week.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

bastards who know nothing in my mini league w/out arsenal coverage at all capt. nani and rack up 76 pts. for the gw putting them ahead of me for monthly free t-shirt prize after i've been winning all month. stupid 4 pt. hit to bring in nasri might cost me cup now as i'm only leading by one pt.- i hate arsenal and just needed to vent! cheers for putting up w/it. oh and what was united's second goal? weirdest thing i've seen in awhile.

I mentioned something similar in the chat earlier.

I seriously think it does pay to take a hands off approach at times.

Don't get me wrong, I think this place is quality, the banter here is second to none and wouldn't have given Mark & Co the membership fee if I thought otherwise, but I do think we all over analyse the fixtures and the players a little too much at times.

I hope Wenger sees sense and doesn't play Fabregas away to Shakhtar in midweek. My fpl hopes depend on it, because otherwise he will probably aggrevate his hmastring and be out of the newcastle match.

Arsenal are cruising in thier group, surely there is NO need.

Can anyone see wenger resting fab because of his slight hamstring injury, and what are the chances of him being fit for newcastle.

I don't think he'll play midweek... Although my predictions of Wenger have been on a slide these past couple of weeks. Who would have thought that Cesc would come on 2-0 up to Newcastle in the Carling cup?!? Makes no sense.

On a related note, I pray that Barton gets sent off today, because judging from his little cameo in midweek, Cesc will not be leaving the field 100% next week.

To all the Cesc doubters, he is not far off from scoring huge. Last week, that penalty doesn't get saved and he'd have been on double digits. This time round, if Green doesn't go all Jekyll and Hyde and makes that save early on, I'm quite sure he'd have been double digits again. He's not at 100% definitely, but you can't keep pure class quiet. That through ball to Walcott when he hit the post, not many people in the premier league would have even thought to try it. Keep him away from your fantasy teams at your peril.

Wenger says he'll be fit for midweek as well. Though he also said that Vermaelen will be back ages ago and that VP was out for 'only 6 weeks'. So...

        Personally I think he's a shoe-in for Newcastle.

agreed, but it's frustrating when other people don't even have him or anyone else for arsenal in a match like that- plus he's even more fragile than glass. every time he's fouled i find myself holding my breath because he takes forever to get up. also note, no bps this week either for a change.

My guess is that he'll play in the easier games, but Ivanovic will play in the harder / more physical ones. Make sure you've got an OK 1st sub defender, and that's not the worst situation to be in - he should get you 6 pts most times he does play.

Problem is if he starts coming on for 10 - 20 minute cameos.

Only way to be safe with Chelsea defence is Terry or Cole. I'd say, in order of 1ikelihood of playing:

          Cole
          Terry
          Alex
Ivanovic (cos he can play CB or RB)

    Grrrr. I'm really angry. The reason ;
I was topping my work league all season. I'm in Ireland, but work for a very big UK company (they have their own league) Suddenly, this week, some random bloke in the UK decides to join our league (don't know how he got the code to join) and goes straight in at no.1!!! Really pissed off. Has this happened to anyone else? Surely it is unfair to join a league GW10? Bragging rights in work (Mon morning) etc. gets thrown out the window by some fly-by-night that nobody knows, who just joined our league coz he's 6k in the world....Bast''rd!! Really angry.

You should be in the top 5K. Pretty simple. It's a weak league in other words.

I know TM. But surely one of the pleasures of this game is the bragging rights in one's own mini-league? If you can't win the whole game outright, surely the most satisfying aspect is to win the mini-league you most cherish. The whole game is nurtured and cherished on such premises, would you agree?

That's another option. Probably a friend gave him the code so you couldn't have bragging rights anymore.

You have 28 gameweeks to pass them. I don't see the problem. If you deserve to win then it will be twice the satisfaction. I would be near the top in your mini league so it's not that strong. It's abit too boring leading a league for 38 GWs when your overall rank isn't in the top 5K.

I'm shipping out Demp (even after today) and have a bit of cash. Enrique OUT Simpson IN will give me plenty to play around with. I'm sticking with 2 cheapy FWs for a while yet.

You should get the guy kicked out of your mini league as GW10 is taking the piss to join a mini league. You may have made certain transfers to win your mini league based on the players your friends had so someone coming in to a mini league at GW10 is taking the piss and spoils the game. It could even be a second team of one of your mates and that is just cheating and defeats the object of the game.

I was looking at replacing Albrighton with a WBA midfielder but can't afford Brunt atm. Is Mulumbu just a waste of my money or is he worth a shot? He looks pretty regular to me but I know nothing about him. Any other suggestions on midfielders in the 4.5-5M price range?
