It’s time to make a booty call to Aleks Kolarov.

I predicted as much, way back on day one of the season and, this morning, the opportunity for that one-Gameweek stand with the Serbian is too good to turn down.

I can’t afford his barnstorming Argentinian team-mate: Pablo Zabaleta is just too rich for my blood without spending four points – something I’m really not keen to do when dealing with defensive trades.

Ron Vlaar or Alan Hutton are the other options but, in contrast to Kolarov, they’re so safe and sound I almost feel nauseous at the prospect.

The stars have aligned for Kolarov. Having returned from injury, he looks about 70:30 to start against Burnley and, if that doesn’t materialise, he’ll be 90:10 to take to the pitch against Sunderland a few days later. Eventually, he’ll get his run-out.

When he does start, he comes laden with promise. He threatens the goal more often than any other defender. He’s second only to Leighton Baines for chances created and, like Baines, he’s often all over dead-ball scenarios. Unlike Baines, he looks pretty assured of a clean sheet either today, or against the Black Cats.

I know this is just a short-term fling. I mentioned back in August that Kolarov can’t offer me security. But then, security and comfort can be overrated. Look at the aforementioned Baines. It all started so passionately – six assists and a goal in the first nine Gameweeks had my head in a spin. Now’s he’s given me nothing for two months.

I’m willing to work on my relationship with Baines – I know there’s something worth rekindling. However, for one week only, I’m going behind his back and allow my head to be turned by the enigmatic Serbian; let’s see if he can’t show me what I’ve been missing.

Don’t look at me like that: he’s my guilty pleasure. Sometimes this Fantasy manager just struggles to say “no” and one of those sometimes is now.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    The Austin/Silva dilemma is not resolving itself. Really can't make up my mind.

      Went for Silva personally. Fearing a response from palace today after Warnock being sacked and City rolling over Burnley.

    Seriously considering bony/cambiasso/chambers out, silva/Kane/Hutton in for -8 hit! Worth it??

      Personally I'd say no. Wait for the Spurs lineup in any case. Can you not afford Just Silva and Kane for -4?

    If this game week was simulated 100 times who gets more points Austin benteke or toure? I know the consensus here is Austin but in the long run does he really make more points than yaya?

      Most likely since Toure will be gone for a number of game weeks. Austin is much better value for his price.

    What are the chances of Sanchez or Haz being rested? Want to do Siggy > Sterling, but it would mean benching one of those two...

      Chelsea have a tough fixtures and Arsenal have Giroud suspended - both start imo.

      Either way I think it would be bonkers benching one of them.

    Would I be correct in saying that most transfers this week are subject to being rotated into pointlessness?

    I kinda fancy doing Hazard -> Silva but I'm worried that I'll do that and Silva will end up not playing.

      He was brought of early so he could play today

      Silva's been taken off around 60 in the last two games. Suggests he's going to play today, but nothing is guaranteed.

      Ha. Thinking same move but also about silva game time. If they go ahead highly likely to sub for Lamps.

      I'd say Silva was pretty safe to start - Pellegrini said so in his press conference at West Brom.

      Think shipping Hazard for him arguably too short-termist though personally.

  22. Killitzer

    What's better:

    Hazard--> Silva
    Hazard + siggy --> silva + Fab (-4)

    Fabregas, Downing, Sanchez, Yaya, Silva

    Who to bench? I'm on Downing at the moment. Doesn't seem to make an impact against big clubs, but Arsenal midfield is diminished.

      West Ham have a terrible record at home to Arsenal, no wins in 12

    Chambers > Kolarov or Skrtel (-4). Feel like taking a risk as Chambers and my only playing sub (Dummett) seem likely to get a ceiling of 1-2 points
