Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Chelsea’s home encounter with managerless Newcastle makes Eden Hazard the runaway leader of this week’s Captain Poll. The Belgian’s outstanding festive form has seen him rise to the top of the midfield standings, and having scored in five of his last six at the Bridge – serving up four sets of double-figure hauls in the process – he’s earned 43% of the votes cast.

Hazard’s team-mate Diego Costa has been selected by 15% of voters. The summer signing has also scored in all but one of his last six but has delivered only one 10+ points return since Gameweek 4.

Harry Kane’s rise to Fantasy prominence is underlined by his spot in third position. After serving up an 18-point haul at home to Chelsea on New Year’s Day, just under 11% are looking to hand the Tottenham frontman the armband as he heads to Palace.

Alexis Sanchez is backed by 6% as Arsenal prepare for the visit of Stoke. With Olivier Giroud back in contention, however, the Chilean may be set for a role on the flank once again, though his last six scores at the Emirates (13, 16, 2, 9, 9, 10) underlines his potential, with only United keeping him at bay.

Raheem Sterling’s role in the centre of Liverpool’s new 3-4-3 formation has convinced 4% to back him for the trip to Sunderland. A goal and assist in his last three is hardly prolific, though the Black Cats’ run of a single clean sheet in their last seven at the Stadium of Light, compared to four shut-outs in five on the road, suggests they are more liable to concede when going on the offensive in front of their own fans.

Promoted pair Danny Ings and Charlie Austin have persuaded around 3% of Fantasy managers to select them as captain as the duo go head-to-head at Turf Moor. In spite of the R’s toils away from home, Austin has scored at the likes of Southampton, Chelsea and Arsenal and bagged a goal and assist against the Clarets in the 2-0 win at Loftus Road last month. With a single strike in seven, the goals have dried up for Ings of late, though the R’s dire form on the road offers reason for optimism here.

Apiz is spending a lot of time on the bench man. Don't trust City's defence at all anymore. Can you get Terry?

    What do you reckon?

    Worth wilding to

    Guzan/Heaton
    Trippier/ Van Aanholt/ Hutton/ Wisdom/ Bertrand
    Sanchez/Di Maria/ Fab/Haz/Silva
    Costa/Kane/Austin

Play a rotating back 3, 5 man midfield, Costa plus rotate Kane and Austin

    Or Stick with my current:

    Guzan/Bego
    Ivan/Bertrand/Clichy/STaylor/Hutton
    Haz/Sterling/Downing/Silva/Sanchez
    Costa/Kane/Austin

Bego and STaylor pretty much dead wood bench fodder though

Currently 2.3k leading all my mini leagues

Do you have money for Aguero? If so you must have massive team value.

I´d wait a week on Silva and ADM...poor week for both ahead, A Chelsea mid or Cazorla or Rosicky, Sess, Ericksen, Boyd and Henderson will outscore those casual picks above...

Hello folks, need some help with my WC team.

How does this look? Im 99% sure to pull the trigger. Taking a risk with kun for this GW.

    Panti/Hammer
    Terry/PVA/Hutton/Wisdom/Bertrand
    Sanchez/Hazard/Chadli/ADM/Boyd
    Kun/Costa/Kane

Bit of an overkill costa and jun up top? Should I downgrade and strengthen somewhere else?

    I appreciate all the help.

I've had RvP since the villa game (tragic, I know). He'd scored 4 in 4 with 2 assists and 6 bps...then I brought him in and ruined him.

I've just taken him out for Costa for a hit....with a view to bringing him or Falcao back for QPR & Leicester....

    Please tell me your thoughts.

Played my WC - any thoughts on how this could be improved? This takes me up to my money, so I've opted for Aguero as his price will go up next week inevitably...

    Foster/Pantillimon
    Terry/Debuchy/PVA/Clyne/Pieters
    Cazorla/Sanchez/Silva/Hazard/Boyd
    Aguero/Kane/Austin

Any help would be appreciated - absolutely bombing in my league at the moment!

Lads please help - how are these guys nailed on this gw: Kolarov Zabaletta Azpi

Zabaleta and Azpi are the most likely to play. Kolarov is always a major rotational risk with Clichy. I'd consider transfering Kolaraov to Clichy (if you want to keep a Man City Def).

Personally I think Hazard is a must have, probably over Fab. You should still have funds to do Costa > Aguero then when he's back performing. Also Downing hit a bit of a lull and been playing central mid. Might be worth looking at Siggy/Chadli instead

I need a 2 week combo before Aguero returns. I have 18.4m to spend on a midfielder and striker and im playing my wc

I have Sanchez, Hazard, Fabregas & Chadli as my other midfielders and Austin & Kane as my other 2 strikers. (I also have Terry so cant get Costa in)

    A) Van Persie/Johnson
    B) Falcao/Rooney/Coutinho
    C) Jovetic/Silva
    D) Giroud/Silva

    Or any other suggestions??

Really struggling with Siggy vs Chadli. What impact you think Bony leaving has on Sig?

Also thoughts on Clichy as defender? what options better?

    thanks fellas

I went for Chadli over Siggy for the reason that spurs seem to be clicking and with Bony going to the ACON I wasn't sure what impact that would have on him

I nearly went for Clichy but have decided to double up on Soton defenders (Bertrand and Fonte). He seems to be the safer bet at LB for City but I always think that Pellegrini likes to rotate them to much
