Robin van Persie is back for United’s clash with Cambridge tonight. Brendan Rodgers is set to ring the changes as Liverpool host Bolton at Anfield, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hector Bellerin are doubts for Arsenal, Adam Johnson is a concern for Sunderland’s home match with Fulham, whilst West Brom have worries over James Morrison.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (groin) and Hector Bellerin (ankle) are both set for late fitness tests ahead of Arsenal’s cup clash with Brighton on Sunday, Arsene Wenger has revealed. The Gunners boss has also confirmed that Mesut Ozil is likely to start, though Danny Welbeck remains sidelined through injury.

James Morrison is a weekend doubt for West Brom’s cup clash with midlands rivals Birmingham, Tony Pulis has revealed. The Baggies boss has also confirmed he’s keen to bring Wigan wide man Callum McManaman and United’s Darren Fletcher to the Hawthorns before the end of the transfer window.

Frank Lampard could be set to miss City’s showdown with Middlesbrough tomorrow but is expected to be out for only “two to three days”, meaning he’ll be available to face former club Chelsea next weekend.

Mario Balotelli, Joe Allen and Glen Johnson are all available for Liverpool’s home encounter with Bolton this weekend. With a Capital One Cup semi-final second-leg against Chelsea to follow in midweek, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed he’s likely to make some alterations tomorrow.

“I think the players on the outside who haven’t been playing as much see clearly how the team functions and how well it has done so. But we’ve been able to work more in training, so it means those coming into that are into a system and way of working that suits them well. It’s always a balance between consistency and rotation, but it’s something we’re comfortable with. We’ll make changes this weekend, but it shouldn’t disrupt the flow of our play.”

Alan Pardew has confirmed that Marouane Chamakh is available for Palace’s clash with Southampton. The Eagles boss – who has been linked with a move for Bolton’s Lee Chung-Yong this week – has admitted he’s uncertain over Wilfried Zaha’s long-term future at the club:

“I am not sure about that option [making Zaha a permanent player]. What I do know is that he is a player who needs to get his career on the move again. He’s had a decent couple of games, he’s made an impact and he needs to build on that. That is where he’s at. He’s a talent who needs to nail down a permanent position, whether on loan or as a permanent signing, but I have been very pleased with what I have seen so far.”

Sunderland assistant boss Charlie Oatway deputised for Gus Poyet during yesterday’s press briefing and revealed the Black Cats are likely to be missing a trio of players ahead of their home clash with Fulham:

“There are one or two issues on the injury front. Adam (Johnson) has a bit of a calf problem, Wes (Brown) has a knock to his knee and Lee (Cattermole) has also got a bit of a problem with his knee. We are still monitoring those. Lee will be struggling for the weekend but it is not a major concern. We are confident he will be ready for next week.”

Robin van Persie has recovered from an ankle problem, whilst Luke Shaw has also been passed fit ahead of United’s clash with Cambridge this evening. Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling are both ruled out, though, and join Ashley Young on the treatment table.

Ronald Koeman remains without Morgan Schneiderlin, Victor Wanyama and Toby Alderweireld for Southampton’s match against Palace, though is optimistic on the trio’s chances of returning in the next fortnight:

“They are doing well, but they need time. When they got the injuries we said it’d be about three or four weeks, so that means there’s another two weeks from now until they’ll normally be back to play. Of course, we’d like to have all of our players available and maybe we will in two weeks’ time, but not for this Saturday. We won at Ipswich and Newcastle without those players, so we can beat Crystal Palace as well.”

Esteban Cambiasso and Dean Hammond are both available for Leicester’s trip to Tottenham tomorrow. Chris Wood is a doubt due to an ankle problem, whilst Nigel Pearson has also revealed he’s considering handing starts to new boys Mark Schwarzer and Andrej Kramaric.

Sam Allardyce has confirmed that, aside from the injured pair Diafra Sakho and James Collins, West Ham “are all fit and well” ahead of their fourth-round clash against Bristol City.

    Hi all,

Been using this time to go through so many WC variations - one being a no Chelsea defence effort:

Krul - Elliott (I care not for keepers)

Baines - Clyne - PVA - Wollschied - Baird (3 way rotation which I could change if not nailed)

Sanchez - Hazard - Oscar - Downing - Boyd (Bit of a 4th mid sacrifice)

    Aguero - Costa - Kane

Leaves me 0.3 in the bank which may come in handy for a cheapie change...thoughts welcomed...

Imo Oscar can be a good pick but then you should have a better 5th mid for the matches he isn't playing

Yeah - maybe Sterling/Erik are steadier picks - I also did one with Fab instead of Oscar which meant a Baines downgrade. Thanks tho...

I don't understand the absence of love for Elia on this forum. Very talented fellow.
It looks like a very good punt for the next weeks, with those fixtures.
For now he wants to show he's grown up, I think its gonna take at least a couple months before he's a bad boy again.

I wouldnt IT. When everyone is back i think he'll be rotated. PB wrote a good post on him ill try and hunt it out if you missed it. HIs goals to games ratio is awful. I seen him a few years ago and wasnt impressed. Apart from speed I dont think he offers much. Mane or Tadic are better options imo

I've got ADM and pretty confident he'll score well over the next several Utd fixtures.

Cazorla seems on form right now, so likely to do well against a shocking Villa set up. But how long will his good form last, especially as more midfield options are coming back to fitness at Arsenal.

If just for this week I'd probably go Cazorla if no transfer cost.

Thanks. Yeah, it's just for this week as I'm wildcarding next gameweek.

Basically a coin toss isn't it. Cazorla probably the safer option though with his decent form last gameweek.

How about this for a WC team, any opinions?

    Foster/ Myhill
    Terry, Clyne, Baird, PvA, Bellerin
    Sánchez, Oscar, Hazard, Sterling, Boyd
    Giroud, Kane, Agüero

Thinking (hoping) that Oscar and Hazard can cover lack of Costa, thinking is that I usually would be captaining Hazard in the home games anyway.

A little worried that Boyd isn't great cover if Oscar misses a game, but feel like I might play 4-3-3 if he's out.

I'd chop Oscar down into one of Downing/Chadli/Puncheon e.t.c and then switch Giroud into Costa. I like the rest of the team though.

      1. Tramp
        • 14 Years
        10 years, 11 months ago

Have looked at this option but unfortunately too short on cash, swapping Giroud to Costa only leaves me with 5.3 which I think is a bit low for a 4th mid.

Looks good Tramp! Not sure on Sterling though. Would probably swap him for Cazorla/Eriksen/Chadli. If you can trim a bit off of your defence, you could get Silva instead!

Cheers, Sterling is there mainly because i've been hit with that coverage talk, don't think I can deal with having two Spurs players, I've been burnt so often by them. Although Liverpool aren't much better.

Experimenting with a 3-5-2 on WC with a cheap defensive rotation at the back.

    Panti 4.0 / Foster Myhil
    Wollsheild Naughton PvA Huttont Baird
    Sanchez Hazard Oscar Cazorla Silva
    Aguero Costa Barnes

    What do we think?

Not sold JK. Good fixtures and all, but it LvG persists on using him out of position then his output will be severely reduced. After the Chelsea game, Silva has some nice fixtures and with Toure out, City have to step up their form.

Why get a Chelsea defender right away?

-they are likely to get through in the capital one cup and perhaps miss a GW. If you have Spurs players you'll likely lose over 4 players then
-unlikely to keep at cleansheet against city
-cheaper defenders have great fixtures and rotate well
-you keep the third attack option open for consistent players like fabregas or oscar
-Azpilicueta may be a better choice than Terry/Ivanovic for a cheaper price in a few gameweeks

Guys need some help with this one: to play the wildcard as late as possible you have to activate it as soon as gwk 24 starts? Or during that day too...

It's confusing because many (Including me) think of GW 24 beginning as soon as the GW 23 deadline is done. Actually the intervening week is counted as GW 23, not 24.

The main thing to know is that 31st Jan after midday is when to play the last week wildcard. It will then run till 11:30 on the 7th Feb.

He's saying that the benefit of Oscar not coming off the bench IF he doesn't start, is that your less than reliable backup of Boyd will likely score 2... Only 1 more than Oscar would have got if he had come off the bench.

Defence is ok if Naughton, Bellerin and Baird keep playing - but it could easily become a car crash within a fortnight. You need to swap one of those first two for someone who is completely nailed and will play every game. A stoke/villa defender for Bellerin?

Clearly the front 8 is fine, I'd consider swapping Cazorla for Oscar after this GW

FFF has Chadli red flagged for "personal reasons" but nowhere else does have the robots malfunctioned or does anybody know if there is any truth in this?

What do people reckon to this team?

    Adrian

    Cahill Bertrand Cresswell Stones

    Sanchez Downing Hazard Chadli

    Costa Giroud Kane

Bench: Krul (may sub in against Hull?), Colback (cheap bench warmer), Pieters

0 itb and wanted to get Phil Jones in for Stone after GW finished but Jones played a blinder and went up 0.1
Tempted to get Bellerin with Villa up next but not sure, Chadli for Henderson after GW23

Ok bit of a challenge. Who can suggest two Premier League quality players currently playing in the Championship who have played in the PL before. By PL quality I mean they would probably walk into at least 5 current PL teams.

I'm going for David Marshall (Cardiff) and Callum McManaman (Wigan).
