634x258 Injuries

With rest and rotation rife, the number of new injuries has been fairly minimal over Saturday and Sunday’s fixtures so far:

Aston Villa
Leandro Bacuna was subbed off due to injury on 88 minutes as Paul Lambert’s side got the better of Bournemouth yesterday. The Villa boss revealed Fabian Delph missed out through injury but is optimistic the midfielder – along with Gabby Agbonlahor – will be fit for next Sunday’s trip to Arsenal:

Fabian pulled up yesterday. He had a little bit of an achilles problem. Gabby was the same with his hamstring. Hopefully those two will be back next week.”

Chelsea
Andre Schurrle was omitted from the Blues squad to face Bradford with a back problem, Jose Mourinho has confirmed. John Obi Mikel was subbed off midway through the second period after sustaining a head knock.

Leicester
Liam Moore lasted just 25 minutes of Saturday’s cup win at Spurs before being withdrawn with an ankle injury, according to the club’s official website.

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson rolled out an update earlier this afternoon:

“It’s an ankle problem. We’ll see [how long he’s out for]. It was a bit unfortunate for him. I think he did it in a block that he made initially and Liam is disappointed too because he gave away the penalty. He has had to be patient for his chance to get back into the side, and I feel for him that he wasn’t able to get a full performance in.”

Man City
Eliaquim Mangala missed City’s shock home loss to Middlesbrough due to a groin problem, Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed.

Man United
Chris Smalling missed Friday evening’s goalless draw against Cambridge after picking up a knock in training.

Southampton
Shane Long could be set for a stint on the sidelines for the Saints. The forward lasted just 12 minutes as a substitute during Saturday’s loss to Palace before being forced off with a rib injury. After the match, Ronald Koeman admitted he fears the worst:

“I spoke to the doctor and he thought he will have fractured one or two ribs and that’s very painful. It’s a pity because we don’t have that number of players to go with all the injuries that we have. I don’t know (how long he will be out for). Normally three, four, five weeks.”

West Brom
Stephane Sessegnon was withdrawn on 67 minutes of the Baggies 2-1 win over Midlands neighbours Birmingham. The Benin international was the victim of a tough challenge from the hosts’ Paul Robinson and, unable to continue, was replaced by Chris Baird.

Boaz Myhill was handed a rare chance to impress between the posts by Tony Pulis at St Andrews but the keeper was forced off with an injured finger as his manager went on to say:

“He will need an X-ray to see if it’s dislocated. He will need some stitches.”

Weekend Suspensions

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s moment of madness towards the end of Swansea’s cup loss at Blackburn has proven costly. The playmaker is now set to miss the next three Gameweeks (sou, SUN, wba), with reports today confirming that Garry Monk won’t be appealing the decision.

The Swans are also without Kyle Bartley for their weekend trip to St Mary’s after he was dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity at Ewood Park, whilst Sunderland’s Jack Rodwell will miss Saturday’s home clash with Burnley – the midfielder collected two yellow cards during the weekend goalless draw against Fulham.

Going for a one week punt.

Cazorla a decent pick? Or is Walcott worth a go?

Sanchez enough cover I think for when I WC. Maybe Giroud. Arsenal midfield is looking less predictable now people are back from injury.

still debating on last wc call

    a) Have both Kun and Oscar (will probably bench Oscar)
    b) Get Mata over Oscar (bench one of AJ or Gayle)
    c) Get RvP/Rooney over Kun (will still bench Oscar)

are either of b or c worth the guarantee that I'll have to use the FT next GW?

Wouldn't get Mata tbh....It's been a while since LVG has had that paticular selection headache. He may bench him for all we know with Herrera back...the man's a bit potty that way.

Only the obvious. We have no idea where Rooney will play and RVP is very capable of another rubbish performance...Good for a week or two though as punts..

    repost

anyone looking at Wally again after that sweet sweet control and half-volley in the cup? I know it was only Brighton (though they nearly stole a replay) but confidence is confidence..

Lots of decent mids for around Wally's price (Sterling, Mata, Oscar, Caz) and lots of doubt about his nailedness

I'll be getting Giroud, totally nailed and not many good options in his price range

nice, see that's my alternative to not getting Costa and I'ms till leaning to it..what you can afford without Costa is nuts 😐

I suppose if Giroud can match Costa then it doesn't matter Costa's ownership..but damn it's frightening (even if a portion of it is dead teams)

true, but they are scoring criminally few goals and if they do endeavor to change that they may concede more..Sunderland and Stoke have way better fixtures and I fancy a decent number of cleansheets in there whereas I don't see all too many for Villa, especially as long as Vlaar is out

Same problem here. I think I might keep Downing as my 4th mid as I don't see any other decent options at that price. Elia is knee-jerky, I don't trust Chadli and Puncheon hasn't been impressive enough this season.

      It's just the risk of

      a) Kun going ape (unlikely as it may be)
      b) RvP being crap (highly possible)
      c) I need to use my FT

      Tough call I reckon

If i was on wc next GW I'd go RvP for sure

Sanchez is the safer choice but I have a good feeling about ADM this week

Arsenal's and Chelsea's fixtures are both nice in the same period so it's very possible Giroud could match him on points alone and then if I add Oscar to that mix..

It all depends on what you'd do with the 3m saved from having Giroud and Oscar over Costa and Caz

Same dilemma. Agüero should bring more points and Giroud shouldn't be too far from that, however, I've been happy with Costa since GW1, but the guy gets way too many yellow cards and clearly wasn't a good option a few weeks ago, when he was blanking constantly.

My other reason for not getting him was captaincy

I looked at the fixtures and only saw 3 GWs till the end of the season where I wouldn't captain one of Hazard, Sanchez or Kun and all are away games as bottom half sides for Chelsea

To me that made me unwilling to pay 11.2

There have to be differentials and price limits...I'm not saying this is my perfect team (I have to be a little mysterious) but I'd surely sell Costa for this kind of forward-line to get better midfielders and defenders.
