With European football back on the agenda, we’re joining forces with The Sun once again to announce a brand new game for Fantasy managers. The Sun’s Dream Team Europe (DTE) covers the knockout stages of both the Champions League and Europa League and gets underway this Tuesday, running all the way up until the Berlin Champions League final on Saturday June 6.

There’s a total of £50,000 in the prizes to give over the course of the DTE game – by far the biggest pot on offer in a European Fantasy Football game. The winner takes home a cool £25,000, with the runner-up consoling themselves with a cheque for £7,500. Indeed, finish in the top ten and you’ll be sure to be in the money. With £2,000 pay-outs also on offer for the winner of each of the four phases over the tournament, there’s plenty of opportunities to benefit from The Sun’s generosity.

Ways To Play

To stand the best chance of winning, Fantasy managers need to enter their teams prior to 7.45pm on Tuesday, when Paris St Germain host Chelsea and Shakhtar entertain Bayern Munich, though you can still enter into the DTE game after those kick offs.

You can pick a team for free and compete for the full £50,000 in prizes, though you need to enter payment details to sign up to Sun+ on a free one-month trial in order to access the game. You can, however, cancel the Sun+ at any point.

If you opt to back your European know-how, you can grab a Premium Package – this gives you five teams for £9.99 and comes with three months of Sun+ and a free £20 Amazon voucher. To get involved, click here.

The Ruleset

The basic ruleset remains very straightforward. Each team must consist of XI players, with Fantasy managers handed a budget of £50m to assemble their selection in either a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 formation.

Players score points from the Champions League and Europa League matches and bearing in mind we’re now down to the knockout stages, it’s perhaps wise to avoid those budget picks from outsiders who are likely to be eliminated by the big boys, forcing you into early tinkering.

Like the main Dream Team game, goals and clean sheets are the major source of points. Assists count for nothing although Dream Team has its own “Bonus Point” scoring system in the shape of the “Star Man” award, which is basically man of the match and earns 5 extra points, while all players who earn 7 or more in The Sun player ratings in a match pick up another 3 points. For a full breakdown of the rules, click here.

Transfers

The DTE offers Fantasy managers a total of 20 transfers over the course of the game, though there are limitations as to how many we can use during each stage. We can make eight of their trades overs Phases 1 and 2, with a further 12 available for Phases 3 and 4, allowing us to restructure as the competitions unfold. There’s no roll over of transfers from Phases 1 and 2, though, so you need to use them or lose them.

The breakdown of the Phases are as follows:

Phase 1: February 17 -26, which takes in the first leg of the eight Champions League Last 16 matches and both legs of the 16 Europa League last 32 matches.

Phase 2: March 10 -19, which takes in the second leg of the eight Champions League Last 16 matches and both legs of the eight Europa League last 16 matches.

Phase 3: April 14-23, which takes in both legs of the Champions League and Europa League Quarter-Finals.

Phase 4: May 5 – June 6, which takes in the Semi-Finals and Finals of both the Champions League and Europa League.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

We’ve opened up a League for the Fantasy Football Scout community and The Sun have kindly put up £200 for the winner. To enter, register your team, click on Leagues and use the league PIN 8319836 to get involved.

          B) Wollsheid -> Which def 4.4 and under?
          C) Change my transfer plans for DGW28?

Having watched them at Ewood the question should really be... Why would he not?..shocking defence...

                But...

                Cameron Wolly Muniesa Bardsley

                will become

                Bardsley Shawcross Wolly Pieters.

Factor in complacency, and the red card, and maybe it's just a blip.

I have Wollscheid as well but the fact is that Stoke have very few clean sheets this season (3 in 25 PL games). They seldom let in many but always seem to find a way to let in one.

They should have the capability to be a good defensive team so it's somewhat frustrating.

I like those transfers. Planning to do similar.

Not sure I would get rid of Wollscheid with GW27 coming up. Stoke defence was awful against Blackburn tho, so you could maybe take a bit of a punt on Haidara. Having visited NUFC-forums got me confident he'll be nailed, as Santon just went off to Inter with everyone screaming for Williamson to be replaced by Dummett at CB.

For a midfielder I would go with one of the Stoke ones, if you chose to use your transfer there. And I probably would. I prefer Moses to Walters given his stats and set pieces (Walters has pens, I know, but how many pens does Stoke usually get?).

              Cheers that is great advice.

Only problem is I already have Walters in my team as a 5th mid so my options are limited!

Well IMO Walters is too expensive to be a 5th mid so in that case I would probably downgrade Punch to someone like Colback or Boyd and spend the extra money elsewhere. But that's me.

Walters is good enough as a 4th mid. Why not downgrade Puncheon to Fletcher as your 5th mid, play Walters and put some cash in the bank?

Again good advice. My thinking was to originally have good bench players for GW27, but rotation may hamper Punch now!

Fletcher is guaranteed to play if fit, is capable of a goal or assist and will pick up a fair few clean sheet points. WBA have a home fixture in GW 27. Colback could also be good but is only 1 card away from a 2 game ban.

You are going to need to shift Baird this week or next in order to field 11 in GW 27. As you only have 1 sub available this week I'd probably move him now.

A Stoke defender like Wollscheid (4.5) looks good on fixtures but they can be frustrating.

Naughton also could be a decent option at 4.3.

Or double up on Southampton with Alderweireld at 4.8.

                One of those probably.

I would keep Baird. What the point transferring in a player and risk him to get injured.
PvA, Terry and Bellerin decent options.

          i am not understanding this
if we only pick 11 players why would we need 12 transfer in a phase?

😯 OK, tht puts a bit of context in place. Id go for it then. Assuming you have Kane +2/3 Chelsea. If not get Eriksen

Thanks - also thinking of keeping Giroud, but Fabregas instead of Mane in midfield.

Costa + Mane vs Giroud + Fabregas

In the hope of a CHE DGW in GW28, is this worth it to go back to 3-4-3 with Costa (BUR)?

          Santi, Oscar & Ayoze -> Siggy/Mane, Ameobi & Costa (4 points)

          Foster
          Terry, Clichy, PVA
          Hazard, Sanchez, Silva, Oscar, Santi
          Aguero, Kane

          Myhill, Ayoze, Bellerin, Coloccini
          Bank 0.2m, 2 FT, 1 WC

Decision made....I've wrote many times that my favoured mids are Eriksen, Sanchez, Silva, Hazard..So I'm just going with that and ignoring DGW planning...Aguero > Costa if he gets the DGW because Aguero won't last long anyway...he never does...

            I'd rather have Aguero

Costa on 8 yellows and will most likely get another 2 game ban
