Having delved into the new data in our members section to assess Alan Pardew’s impact on Crystal Palace, we make our way to the Midlands to see how Tony Pulis is shaping up as the new man in charge at West Brom.

With three clean sheets in five matches – compared to six in the opening 20 Gameweeks – Pulis has helped his new side register two wins and a couple of draws, with only a home loss to in-form Tottenham dashing our Fantasy faith. In terms of personnel, we’ve seen Andre Wisdom shuffled onto the Baggies bench, with Chris Brunt utilised as a left-back and record signing Brown Ideye finally finding his form. Similarly, Saido Berahino, with seven goals in eight appearances in all competitions, has been transformed in recent weeks after falling out of Alan Irvine’s first-team plans. As the Midlands side brace themselves for some kind upcoming fixtures, we cast an eye over the numbers for signs of the so-called “Pulis effect”.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Morning all, kinda FF related question.

Just got a new laptop and the Premier League site has gone a bit strange. Every page is loads of white, having to scrolll down miles to find my team/ transfers etc. Anyone else have this/ know the cure?

Yeah I do at time, but it only happens after I erase my cookies/history. Mainly has to with my location though, as it translates everything into Spanish as well.

Once I change the Language back to english, everything goes back to normal

I've had this before and had to clear cookies and history, close down and re-boot and re-open browsers. Worked a few times, then I started using Google Chrome instead of IE and have not had a problem since.

    Ospina
    Jones*, Ivan, PVA
    Hazard (VC), Silva, ADM, Downing
    Aguero (C), Kane, Giroud

    Krul, Clyne, Puncheon, Haidara

Yeah a few descions to be made, I think sunderland have a better chance to keep out wba than soton do holding out sturridge and co. Also don't wanna play puncheon because I've got Ospina. Will give it some thought cheers TE

      Looks fine.
Longer term would be looking ADM to erik for the double and Giroud to Costa.

Maybe even add to that Downing/Puncheon right down and Silva to Sanchez? (all longer term)

Two nice boring transfers this week, Wisdom ->Naughton and Marney-> Fletcher. Gets rid of 2 deadwood players for two starters nd will then give me 2 FTs for 28 as well

    Krul / Panti
    Hutton / Wisdom / Clyne / Beller / PVA
    SAnchez / ADM / Silva / Haz / Marney
    Kun / Giroud / Kane

with 2FT and .2 itb, can anybody do any better than the above for me?

    1. Get up ya bum

No need to sell wisdom. I'd just replace marney and bank the other one

Can't really argue against those moves, might feel a little sideways but is setting you up nicely for the blanks.

Could you just do Wisdom > Naughton or Haidara (better GW27 fixture) and then save the 2FTs for the DGW?

      1. droginexile
        • 15 Years
        10 years, 10 months ago

have krul in team and have already double Sunderland so dont want double newc as well.

Unless I have it wrong, if I save transfer next week il still have 2 for GW 28 no? I only have Haz and Kane to worry about benching for 27 and then bring in Eriksen and one more on FTs for DGW 28

    3. Zasa
      • 11 Years
      10 years, 10 months ago

Bad use of 2 FT's, IMO.
Take Wisdom out next week if you can, as you can get away with it.
I'd only do one of those moves, and I wouldn't go for Flecther myself

      1. droginexile
        • 15 Years
        10 years, 10 months ago

Might hold on Wisdom, will give Pulis another week to see the light and put him back into the team for me.

any other suggestions for Marney replacement Zasa, not really looking for someone like Boyd who il have to worry about benching/playing in case he scores big, just somebody nailed on who i know will def come on and get me 2-3 points in an absolute worst case scenario. Realistically he will b my 14th/5th player so wont get too many runs in the first team

For the 5th mid, Champy gave some solid options a post above you.
I have JWP myself, albeit he's not "nailed". Gil could be a good shout although he's rather costly (5.0m)

yeah, Gil would be ideal but again at 5 hes above 5th mid price and below 4th mid price, a bit awkward to fit him in. def some good options above, it needs thinking. Luckily Im off all day tomorrow 🙂

Hey morning lads, happy new year of the goat

G2G? 0FT 2.6 ITB. Will have 1FT going into 27 which I need to use for a long term defender to replace Baird....Stoke, or another WBA?

    Foster

    PVA Terry Fonte (haidara, baird)

    Haz, Wally, Sanchez, Mane (Boyd)

    Aguero Giroud Kane

Apologies in now, these forward planning posts normally bore me as so much can happen but ironically i am so bored at work i doing exactly that.

    Foster/Myhill
    Terry/ Trippier/ Haidria/PVA/Hutton
    Hazard/Sanchez/ ADM/Boyd/ Silva
    Aguero/Kane/ Giroud

    1FT 0.0 ITB

    gw26 Save
    gw27 Tripper to Alderw
    gw28 Di Maria to Erik
gw29 Silva to Mane and Giroud to Costa

    GW29-
    Foster/Myhill
    Terry/ Alderwield/ Haidria/PVA/Hutton
    Hazard/Sanchez/ Erik/Boyd/ Mane
    Aguero/Kane/ Costa

Would leave 1.2 ITB so Erik could go back to Silva

    Any thoughts?

          Terry/berty/moreno/pva/wasil
          Sanchez/caz/sterling/mane/haz

          26 save
          27 haz/kane to sturridge/cheapie

Can someone more intelligent than me assess Spurs assets:
Presuming the following: everyone has Kane, and everyone will get Eriksen for the DGW....some will be tripling up with defence/GK too.

Are there any genuine good differentials to Eriksen in the Spurs midfield?

Lamela: lost his place but has started the last three
Dembele: showed more attacking signs in the last few games but often gets sacrificed second half
Chadli: seems to have lost his place?

Am I clutching at straws here? I could really do with saving some cash but not getting Eriksen, otherwise I can't upgrade Giroud to Costa at a later date....

Spurs have WHM SWA & qpr (DGW) mun LEI bur AVL new

He's been playing box to box, similar role to yaya ... gets back defensively but has free range moving forward and has been getting a lot of the ball on the outside of the box. His passing has been getting better and he's rifled a few great chances at goal. If he keeps his spot there he's definitely worth considering for the DGW.

Tough one there, might be rolling with 9 players come Gw27, I'd save the FT this week and deal with a minimum of Oscar and Chester. Those are your priorities for sure, IMO.

The following is information for potential other DGWs in the season based on the teams getting to the FA Cup semi finals.

If Chelsea do not have a DGW in 28, it may be moved to 31 where they also have STO. Attractive.

For FA Cup semi final teams, GW33 is a blank, their games rearranged for either GW34 or GW37

There are five prem teams still in the competition, Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, West Brom & Aston Villa, meaning a maximum of three can get into the semis. Here are their potential double weeks.

    GW34
    Arsenal: SUN CHE

thats great bbudgie, good to know. Also worth noting that in both those options, Chelsea have a double as well

maybe the premier league will throw chelsea v leicester into that DGW mix as well and give us a hell of a finish - hopefully GW 37. Triple chelsea....would be carnage...brilliant

FYI chelsea will only have a double if United beat arsenal (unless west brom get there and the game goes to 37.)

So don't bank on it yet.

    Foster
    Terry, Pva, Koscielny
    Walcott, Sanchez, Oscar, Manè
    Aguero, Falcao, Defoe

Krul, Wollscheid, Fonte, Cork 1ft .9itb

My planned transfer was Falcao to Costa and bench him for the blank if he had a DGW 28. Now that he more than likely doesn't is it wiser to do Defoe to Kane? Falcao has a decent gw 27 fixture..

A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me $50, but if I cannot, I will pay you $50."

The boy looked around and saw no scale so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he'll just say he weighs more or less.

In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?

A man is traveling to a town and comes to a fork in the road. If he goes left, he goes to the liars' village. If he goes right, he then goes to the village of truths - which is where he wants to go. However, he does not know which way is which.

He doesn't have time to go both routes, so he approaches a stranger who is standing in the middle of the fork. The stranger says he may only ask 3 questions and he will answer them.

The man asks, "Are you from the village of truths?" The stranger says, "Yes!" However, the man is still facing a dilemma: If the stranger was from the village of truths he can only tell the truth, but if he was from the village of liars, he would say he was from the village of truth.

So then he asks the stranger, "Are you telling the truth?" The stranger says, "Yes!" But sadly this leaves the man in the same position as before.

    Can you figure it out?

Would a man from your village say this way is the way to a village of truth?

If they answer "Yes" you are pointing towards the village of truth. If "No" you are pointing to the liars.

      Logic tree behind it:

If the man is from truth - he will tell you the truth.

If he is from liars - he will tell you the opposite of the question, but the question itself invokes the liars by referring to his village. Hence, you are invoking a double negative.

Was necessary to set the stranger up for the final question, "Which is your village?" Then it doesn't matter whether he's lying or telling the truth. Either way he points you where you want to go.

        1. Billy Gilmore
          • 13 Years
          10 years, 10 months ago

The second question accomplished nothing. If he was from the village of liars then he can't say he was lying as that would be telling the truth. If he was from the village of truth then he can't answer no as that would be lying.

There is only one possible response to 'Are you telling the truth?' and it reveals nothing.

          1. Not Irish
            • 12 Years
            10 years, 10 months ago

Of course he would say yes either way but it gives the stranger, if he is a liar, the impression that the man is trusting his word. Thus once he asks which way his village is he is assured the correct answer whether stranger is lying or not.

              Are you fecking serious??

If there's only one possible response then the man already knows the answer without having to ask......

Four rowers wish to cross the river by means of a boat that can only hold two men. The rower R1 needs one minute to cross the river alone, and the rowers R2, R3, and R4 need 2, 6, and 9 minutes respectively. Since the boat will hold only two men at a time, the rowers planned an optimum strategy for crossing the river. At the moment the rowers implement their plan, a swan starts to swim across the river at a speed of 60 feet per minute. The swan reaches the other side precisely at the moment the rowers complete their plan of getting all across the river.

What was the plan? Who rows with who?
How long did it take to accomplish the plan?
    How wide is the river?

Not optimal, 2 rowers will cross the river more quickly than a single rower

Needs to be better worded to understand how does two rowers in a boat impact the timing.

On face value, it can be done in 2 mins. R1 takes R4 and R2 takes R3.

      120 feet wide.

'a boat' implies that there are not 2 boats.

But yeah, I based mine on being the longest time of the two passengers.

Sorry gents, here it is in it's entirety

Four rower-mathematicians wish to cross the river by means of a boat that can only hold two men. The rower R₁needs 1 minute to cross the river alone, R₂, R₃, R₄need
2, 6, and 9 minutes respectively. Being mathematicians, the rowers have planned an optimal strategy for crossing the river. They start to row toward the opposite river bank in a straight line. At the very moment they begin to row, a swan starts to swim over the river in a straight line with the speed of 60 feet per second. The swan reaches the opposite river bank at the exact moment when the rowers complete their transfer. How wide is the river?

      - Any of the combo will do. R1 takes 1min while R4 takes 9 mins, so on average they will take 5mins together while R2 and R3 will take 4mins which means 9mins for all 4 rover to reach other side. Trying all combinations, they'll take 9mins(assuming my method is correct?).

      - 9 x 60 = 540feets

        1-4: 54 secs
        2-3: 1.5 mins

Im guessing by the slowest rowers time being used-

          R1+R2 cross- 2 mins
          R1 comes back- 1 mins
          R3+R4 cross-9 mins
          R2 comes back- 2 mins
          R1+R2 cross - 2 mins

          Total=16 min

          60ft/min for 16 min= 960 feet

Alright here is the documented solution guys,

      Here goes:

First, notice that a joined pair of rowers will cross the river faster than each of them individually. To find the speed of any pair of rowers, let us assume that an energy E is needed for one transfer. If F_k stands for the power of the rower R_k necessary for one crossing which lasts t_k minutes (k= 1,2,3,4), then

      E=F₁t₁=F₂t₂= F₃t₃=F₄t₄(ref.A)

      where t₁=1, t₂= 2, t₃=6, t₄=9
      (expressed in minutes).

      From ref.A (above)it follows that

F_k = E/t_k. The time t_ij for crossing the river by any two rowers R_i and R_j is equal to

      t_ij = E/F_i+F_j = E/E/t_i+E/t_j = t_it_j/t_i+t_j.

      Let -->R and R₁R4 t₁₄=t₁t₄/(t₁+t ₄)= 9/10 min.

      2. R₂R₃ t ₂₃=(t₂t₃/(t₂+t₃)= 3/2 min.

      4. R₁R₂ t₁₂= 2/3 min.

From the above scheme we find that the total time of all transfers of the rowers is:

      t = t₁₄+ t₁+ t₂₃+ t₂+ t₁₂=
      9/10 + 1 + 3/2 + 2 + 2/3 =
      91/15 min.

The width of the river is equal to the distance traveled by the swan:

      (60 ft./min.) x (91/15 min.)=
      364 ft.

      Answer: 364ft.

I assume they got it wrong because they thought the river was 364ft wide so crashed into the bank and got brain damage.

😆 Maybe there was a tsunami that could have helped all the rowers to get across in a few seconds.

Or maybe the swan could fly?

Why are people getting Haidara at 4.1 with marginal fixtures, when you could get Bruce for 3.9 with better fixtures?

    Haidara - mci/AVL/mun/eve/ARS
    Bruce - QPR/sto/SUN/lei/CHE

      because Bruce plays for Hull

Newcastle is no better with their decimated backline and poor fixtures?

It's direct comparison between two teams, not a general comment on Hull

Think its primarily for the GW 27 fixture home to villa. Agree NEW are not great but they are better than Hull and the following weeks after Villa Haidria should be no where near my starting 11. Hopefully!

Haidara solves the problem with missing players next week, has Aston Villa at home ... Hull have Stoke away!

Money no issue as it's a free draft league h2h pick up. Who would you pick from these 3 to rotate with Vlaar and Lescott?

    A) Tomkins
    B) Haidara
    C) Bardsley

    Thanks

    Current defence:

    Terry (6.7) - Jones (5.2) - Wisdom (4.2) - Trippier (4.8) - PvA (4.2)

    0.2 ITB

Thinking Wisdom to Vlaar for free.. thoughts?

Thats my thinking. I don't want to risk Trippier having to come in for Jones which could easily be a negative score. Trippier becomes Alderweireld eventually.

i might rid myself of the Wisdom problem in DGW and take a hit for Yun. makes the hit more palatable.

I'd avoid bringing in a QPR defender with their fixtures. Sounds a bad move.
