Queens Park Rangers won’t have to venture beyond the capital in their imminent double Gameweek, as they host north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal within the space of four days. While the R’s languish in the lower echelons of the Premier League table – sitting outside the relegation berths by virtue of a superior goal difference – their winning record at Loftus Road renders them far from a Fantasy write-off.

The Prospects

The Hoops’ first test of the week sees them lock horns with an Arsenal side that triumphed 2-1 in the reverse fixture. With only one win in their last nine outings and a single victory in their previous five home ties, QPR will doubtless be underdogs in this local derby.

That being said, isolating QPR’s record under new boss Chris Ramsey frames them in a different light. The 52-year-old’s debut match in charge as caretaker manager would have resulted in a well-earned point, save for a last-gasp winner from Southampton’s Sadio Mane. Then in the two road ties that followed, Ramsey commandeered QPR to their first away win of the campaign – a 2-0 victory over Sunderland – and a narrow 2-1 defeat to Hull City.

The Gunners’ biggest strength lies in their plethora of creative midfielders and goalscoring forwards – Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud have tallied three and four goals respectively in their last six, while Mesut Ozil has delivered attacking returns in four of the previous five Gameweeks. Nonetheless, Arsenal’s vulnerability at the back was exposed by Monaco in the Champions League and is also evident in their paucity of clean sheets (seven) this term, offering encouragement to QPR’s attack-minded players.

QPR welcome Spurs to White City in the second match-up of their double, pitting Ramsey against the club that employed him for over a decade. Tottenham are a match for anyone on their day – as league leaders Chelsea will attest to – but inconsistency is a problem for Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit. For every head-turning win over one of the big boys (Chelsea, Arsenal), there’s been a humbling defeat to a team lower down the league ladder (West Brom, Crystal Palace). Moreover, as much as the likes of Harry Kane – who’s netted 12 times in his previous 11 outings – poses a real threat to QPR’s rearguard, the hosts will fancy Charlie Austin to cause trouble, too, given that only Leicester City (10) have conceded more big chances than the Lilywhites in their past four matches.

The Likely Lads

As the highest scoring Fantasy Premier League player on QPR’s roster by a clear 34 points this campaign, Charlie Austin (6.3) inevitably stands out as the prime candidate for R’s coverage in the double Gameweek. The 25-year-old hitman has registered six goals in his last nine appearances, equalling the much-vaunted Kane’s tally of 14 for the season, and looks nailed-on for Gameweek 28.

Having started QPR’s last three matches, Matthew Phillips (4.6) is shaping up to be a permanent fixture under Ramsey’s tenure. The Scotland international’s odds of retaining his right wing berth have certainly been enhanced by three assists in the past two Gameweeks. Furthermore, only Chelsea livewire Eden Hazard (11) has fashioned more chances for his teammates than Phillips (10) in the previous three Gameweeks.

Of the five clean sheets that Robert Green (4.5) has recorded this season, four of them have arrived at Loftus Road. Granted, Tottenham and Arsenal have only failed to score in six matches between them to date, yet their ability to fashion a wealth of chances should only strengthen the 35-year-old shot-stoppers’ potential to accrue save points – nine of Green’s last 10 outings have harvested one extra point from saves.

The Cheeky Punt

One goal and six attempts in QPR’s last two matches illustrates Bobby Zamora’s effort to impress his new boss. With many Fantasy enthusiasts rejigging their line-ups in an attempt to accommodate both Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero after the double Gameweek, the 4.1-priced forward could serve as a decent stop gap for those looking to free up cash.

Considering QPR have conceded more goals (45) than any other Premier League outfit this campaign, investing in their defence might seem like a questionable strategy, with Green’s save points looking the safest option. However, priced at 3.9, Suk-Young Yun represents a small outlay for a left-back that’s started the London club’s last two fixtures. On the off-chance of a clean sheet, Yun might tempt some managers with space for a budget defender in their ranks.

At Chelsea Salah was a benchwarmer while Cuadrado was a star at Fiorentina.

    The roles have reversed.

Yeah it's a great transfer strategy but not great for the players that come to Chelsea.

Most people would...but for example...A couple of weeks ago Aguero blanked as a top (c) pick and Costa bagged 16pts (32) as a (c) pick...Just that one bit of good fortune alone (if somebody did it) would go a long way to reducing the one GW advantage....

All I'm saying is that I'm surprised more haven't broken into the top 1k...

This is terrible logic. You could easily start GW1, take a 40pt hit, and probably still have a points advantage over someone who starts GW2.

Drop Cazorla or Sanchez to Eriksen? Currently on dropping Sanchez since Cazorla is on penelties, but Sanchez got that goal potential.

Cazorla + Pelle > Eriksen + Austin would leave me with 2,7 mil in the bank which could be used to upgrade either Austin to Giroud later on or upgrade a defender (PvA, Wisdom or Jones) or Puncheon/Cork.

Sanchez + Pelle > Eriksen + Austin would leave me with 5,6 mil in the bank which could be used to upgrade Austin to Costa, or any of the midfielders/defenders.

The upgrade from Austin > Giroud/Costa would be after gameweek 29, before the game against Everton. I would probably have to use the rest of the money to upgrade one of my defenders before the next gameweek if PvA or Wisdom does not start. Thanks!

On the Giroud->Austin decision, which seems a common dilemma:

Austin's PPG this season is 5.43 (games he has played only). Against the (current) top 6 this drops to 4.29. Giroud's PPG (games he has played only) is 4.43. With 2 games for Austin, both against top 6, you'd expect a total of around 8.58 points. Giroud is expected to score 4.43 in his 1 outing against QPR.

Giroud's stats against the lower-placed teams are misleadingly poor because of his -2 for the sending off against, er, QPR earlier in the season.

Giroud has only scored more than 1 goal once this season and this is the only time he has got 3 BPS. Austin has done it twice (one brace, one hat-trick) and both times he got 3 BPS. He has got 3 BPS in 2 other games, in one of which he also scored an assist.

If you look at all the consecutive pairs of games Austin has played this season, the average score is 10.96 across the pair of games. In arguably the hardest pair, GW10-11 (vs CHE than MCI) he scored 6 then 7 for 13 points across the 2 games. His worst 2-consecutive game score is 3 (GW4-5, MUN, STO), then 4 (GW19, GW20).

So, Giroud->Austin for free seems like a sound move. For a hit, it is a much closer call.

I probably will as well as it would be for a hit. I am tempted, though. Wish we could see the line-ups as I think there's a chance of a rest for Giroud.

That's actually good point. I can do Gru out for Austin for FT. It just feels wrong tbh.

At the same Welbz Theo etc lurking, so there is ever chance for Gru bench cameo

Excellent post. Qpr's fixtures are good after the double, so it's a solid medium term move too. Spurs will be tired.

Lescott more likely to get the clean sheet IMO. Are Bellerins attacking stats that good? Not checked myself

Not saying I necessarily prefer Bellerin but I think it's a close call. I'd rate them both as decent shots for a clean sheet with similarly mild attacking threat. I have a Bellerin/Dawson decision to make and am in two minds currently.

What would you do for this GW? I can spare some cash only if I sell Giroud to Austin but I'm not convinced.
Actually don't know if getting rid of Silva for Eriksen is a good idea.

To be fair, while I've been critical of the City performance, they had at least three other chances that went very close including one hitting the post or that should have been close (Silva's effort).

Liverpool have tightened up but there were still chances for City, they just fluffed them.

Aye, it was not their attack that was disappointing (though they should have done better) but the command in CM and defending that was poor. And they paid the price, which I'm delighted they did because I cannot abide teams that get lazy like that, especially against someone like Liverpool.

They had plenty of very close calls. Aguero shot across goal, there would have been an easy tap in. Plus he hit the post...

Will Clichy come out from the cold?

Then Lolorov for the weekend and champions league? Or am I kidding myself?

O'Shea owners lucked out twice. No red, and no retrospective ban! Luckers!

For yahoo league (kane is actually expensive)

Austin and sanchez. Or kane and a punt like Mason or Diouf

Really struggling to take out Cazorla for Eriksen for a hit.. should be a no brainer with the DGW. But Cazorla being on penalties, his status as nailed on confirmed with the captaincy, Great fixtures and bought at 8.2 ... What would you do/are doing? 🙂
Keep Caz or swap to Eriksen for a hit

Think I'm doing the exact same move since Eriksen can do more damage to me than Cazorla. Only one attacking return from open play in the last two months anyway.
