QPR have a handful of doubts in defence ahead of Tottenham’s visit to Loftus Road. Gabriel Paulista faces two-to-three weeks out with a hamstring injury, but Wojciech Szczesny and Nacho Monreal could feature following late fitness tests. Elsewhere, Ron Vlaar and Steven Gerrard could return to action in the FA Cup, whilst West Brom duo Callum McManaman and Stephane Sessegnon remain touch and go.

Chris Ramsey is sweating on the fitness of three of his players ahead of the R’s London derby against Spurs. The former Tottenham head of development revealed that Nedum Onuoha, Mauricio Isla and Darnell Furlong are all doubts for Saturday:

“We’ve got a few knocks. Nedum has got a big cut on his face. Isla’s knee is sore. Furlong has a sore calf.”

Meanwhile, Sandro was brought off at the 55-minute mark as a precaution against Arsenal as QPR manage his return from a knee injury. Ramsey is optimistic the combative Brazilian will last longer than 60 minutes against the Lilywhites:

“Hopefully Sandro will be able to last longer than an hour tomorrow – it’s part of his conditioning process. He had to come off because we didn’t want to risk him getting injured again. He is growing in stature.”

Spurs, on the other hand, have no such worries, with Mauricio Pochettino confirming he has a fully-fit squad to choose from for the trip to Loftus Road.

Arsene Wenger confirmed in his Friday presss conference that January signing Gabriel Paulista will be sidelined for two-to-three weeks after he sustained a hamstring injury at Loftus Road in midweek. The Gunners boss also revealed that both Nacho Monreal and Wojciech Szczesny are undergoing late fitness tests, with the latter set to line up between the sticks for the Gunners’ FA Cup clash against Manchester United if he’s given the all-clear:

“Gabriel has a little hamstring injury and will be out for two to three weeks. He will not be available for the weekend or West Ham or Monaco. Monreal has a test today, everybody else will be available – the same squad who played against Queens Park Rangers. [Szczesny] has a test today. If he gets through that test he will play on Monday night. Wojciech is used to playing in big games and he’ll take that as a big challenge to show his quality. He works very hard in training.”

There are questions marks over the availability of West Brom duo Callum McManaman and Stephane Sessegnon for the Baggies’ FA Cup encounter with Aston Villa. McManaman remains a doubt despite training during the week, while Sessegnon has been given time off in light of unspecified personal issues.

Tim Sherwood is optimistic that Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar will recover from his calf injury in time to face West Brom – the Dutch centre-back will complete a late fitness test ahead of the West Midlands derby. Aly Cissokho and Kieran Richardson remain benched for the Villains, but, in more positive news, Nathan Baker is said to be “a couple of weeks” away from returning to action:

We will wait until the very last minute with Ron. We are hoping he will be fit and add to the squad.

Mamadou Sakho was back in training yesterday ahead of Liverpool’s cup clash with Blackburn. Steven Gerrard has been nursing a hamstring injury since the 3-2 victory over Tottenham in Gameweek 25 but could be passed fit for the last eight match-up. Brendan Rodgers said the Merseyside talisman is set to be assessed in the next couple of days but cautioned that a player’s status is a non-factor when it comes to team selection.

“We’ve still got a couple of days to go yet with Steven, he’s obviously with the rehabilitation team. So we’ll assess it in the next couple of days. The team is playing very well, but it will be important just to get Steven back and available for selection – that’s the most important element. He’s very much a team player; if he was on the bench because the team is in good form and playing well, everyone respects that. I’ve shown in my time here that if players are performing well – irrespective of status or price – they play. Simple as that. But, for me, the most important thing in the first case is having Steven available. He’s an outstanding player still and to have him back will make our squad a better squad.”

    Quiet innit....
What's the current dream front 3, money no object?
    Kun - Kane - Costa?

    Most popular seems to be;
    Kun - Kane - Giroud

Yes indeed, both are correct, had the most popular but ditched Giroud for Austin as have Ozil and Sanchez. Will get Costa when he's sorted out this YC issue.

It's getting to the point where Kane is so popular a pick that it's like having just two slots - I'm wondering if ditching kane at the right moment (ie. if/when he starts to blank might be a season changer

How many games would he have to blank for you to get rid?

Only 10 weeks left and have to think about the double too

To be honest, I'm much more likely to sell Aguero ... even a weaker Kane is still great value, whereas Kun represents a terrible points/price ration at present. I'm trying think through some slightly wilder options as I'm bored and appreciate all viewpoints

Injuries aside, we only need to worry about one midfield slot and one forward slot for the rest of the season (plus defence). Discuss.

        Yes, or should be

Sanchez Hazard Silva (5th mid e.g. Boyd)
        Aguero Kane

So, for example, when the Chelsea DGW comes round you get a cheap mid (maybe a Leicester one if you're feeling brave) and Costa

Well, I'd take issue with Sanchez and Aguero on that list - currently neither represents value for points. I agree it's the template, but he who dares, wins?

I think that Sanchez has been unfortunate not to have more points recently but they will come. Aguero is one of the top scoring players when fit so I think you have to have him regardless of price. Of course, there are other strategies!

Aguero *was* a top scoring player .... I'm not sure now. We don't have long for him to get up to full speed, if indeed he still can.

fantasy football wise, im assuming everyone ants arsenal to go through instead of united? cant see united being interesting in a DGW. Arsenal would play SUN (H) as one of the DGW games too. And Liverpool hul (A) as one of theirs. Plus the Chelsea DGW could be 9 players from those 3 teams + some of their opponents.

United would have Chelsea (a) as one of theirs, and to be honest i dont even know which united players i would want to pick for a dgw.

The other way around, lose some until/beofre gw 33, and wildcard in gw 34 then.

Might be a valuable wildcard then

i would normally do this, but the 3 teams are chelsea, arsenal and liverpool - so pretty safe to keep them for the last 3-4 gameweeks imo. liv and arsenals fixtures at the end are good enough to do it imo.

He hasn't really been all that good since he's come to England, you can't really argue with that.

As the article says, it depends how you view the game. If you value running around endlessly over proper, intelligent movement then yes, you will think he hasn't been good.

He isn't a goalscorer like Sanchez, either. And for a lot of people, that is the reductive way they measure a top player.

I don't care if you run 10 miles a game or 2 miles a game. He has not been particularly effective since he's moved to England. He's the kind of player who needs his team mates to learn his game, so they know the runs to make to get on the end of his sublime passes.

And I don't think Giroud's style brings the best out of Ozil either. He wants to hold the ball up and get on the end of crosses, whereas Ozil wants to slide the ball through to a striker on the shoulder of the last defender.

Boyd is a great bench warmer, as you are never tempted to bench any of your other attacking players for him. If I had a better 5th mid, I may have lost out on some of Kane's points for example.

Hate to say it but it did Ireland a number of favours.

We've a nice position of having the euro and being the only real nation that has English as it's primary language spoken. Makes it a nice place for big US companies trying to enter the Euro market to set up. If Scotland had gotten independence and entered the euro, there'd be competition.

Still, was sorry to not see it happen.

I must agree with this. Certainly won't go making Hazard comparisons but United's recent tactic of "buy talented CAM, play him on the wing" has ticked me off. Then they buy ADM, a CM or winger, and try him CAM for a while (if I remember correctly). Bleh.

It is rare that I would ever actually believe I could create a better lineup than the one a professional manager has done, but it has happened a few times over the last 2 seasons regarding United.
