634x258 Selection

The Captain poll for Gameweek ten is now in full swing with well over a thousand votes already collected. As expected, Tottenham’s Rafael Van der Vaart dominates with a third of the vote so far. The outspoken Dutchman goes into a home clash with QPR having scored a brace at Blackburn, while Neil Warnock’s men arrive having been spanked 6-0 on their last away trip. Van der Vaart’s owners will go into the weekend with all the confidence and swagger of the player himself.

While team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor also surfs the wave of optimism surrounding Tottenham’s chances on Sunday, having collected 8% of the vote, he is separated from Van der Vaart by City’s prime attacking specimens – David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

Gloriously omitted from last night’s team-sheet, confidence in Roberto Mancini’s selection will now be building and there’s an obvious swell of opinion that backs both players to start against Wolves on Saturday. The forthcoming trip to Villareal on Wednesday remains a concern however; those handing Silva and Aguero the armband will surely do so with a strong Vice Captain option in place.

A slew of strikers then follow – Mario Balotelli – another omitted from Manicini’s midweek lineup, earns fifth spot. Luis Suarez’ reputation received a timely boost with a classy double in last night’s win at Stoke and he sits next in our poll. His owners will now be seeking confirmation of a clean bill of health, having seen him wince and limp from the Britannia turf late on.

Wayne Rooney takes the fight to Goodison on Saturday lunchtime for the early midday kick-off. He’ll be given his usual reception, spiced up by the recent red card in Montenegro and Sunday’s demolition at the hands of rivals City. It could go either way for Rooney – we suspect that Saturday’s game won’t be without incident. Alex Ferguson will surely be firing up his men following the Old Trafford drubbing but, at the same time, the United boss will likely have to curb Rooney’s “enthusiasm” against his former club.

Surprisingly perhaps, Robin Van Persie sits in mid-table position in the poll. Despite four goals in his last two league outings, obviously the prospect of facing the Chelsea defence is providing a barrier for his owners. Andre Villa-Boas is unlikely to feel quite so confident about putting the buffers on the prolific Dutchman, however – he’s seen his side concede in eight of their nine games this season and, with Arsenal’s defence equally obliging, goals in Saturday’s clash look likely.

If you’ve yet to cast your vote this week, don’t forget to fire it off via the homepage before Friday night when our final votes will be collected.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I reckon Ballotelli to be a better option than Aguero the foo, llowing weeks. Aguero will play approx. 60 mins this wwekend and play the CL midweek against Villareal. Ballotelli will most likely not play, as I reckon Dzeko will start up front along side Aguero. That will open the chances for Ballotelli also to start next week. IMO.

Should I do any changes this week?

    Vorm (Ruddy)
    Kompany Enrique NTaylor (Brown Simpson)
    Silva(v) VDV(c) Nani Murphy (Dyer)
    RVP Suarez Sturridge

Look like I'm quite set, just having the Arsenal v Chelsea makes me a bit worried.
    Any ideas?

He has good fixtures and I would be getting him in for Barton

I happened to watch his last game against Bolton. He had a poor first half, but exploded in the second one with a goal and an assist. He really made the difference when swayed a bit towards the flank, well, better than being off the striker imo. He has some nice run coming up, apart from the United trip, therefore I'd say just go for it.

Get off your high horse mate, the way u speak is the reason why so many people hate untied, its not that they actualy dislike the team it just seems that there is a common arogant trend with manu fans. And with regards to not being a true supporter of a club ye its easy to go to games if you live in england however not all of us do..

I live in South Africa, i've been to one game of the club i support, cause you know well i cant fly up to London every weekend, you saying i'm not a supporter? i saved six month for that trip, but i guess because i don't go every weekend my opinion doesn't matter. Moron, think before you speak (or type) You know how important foreign revenue is to your beloved club? yet u bash supporters who don't go to games.

I sit and watch United in front of telly and am not a fan, but me and many others watching them creates a ton of revenue for your team, so am I a supporter, but not a fan? If all the non fan, supporter types stopped watching your teams games, your team wouldnt be able to afford its sanitation crew let alone its players; unless of course it jacked up ticket prices 10000% in which case you wouldnt be able to afford to go to games and by your own words would cease being a true fan. So I believe the words you are looking for are "Thank You" because if it werent for us, you would end up a "fan" of York City F.C. - not that theres anything wrong with that.

Match going football fans despise these so called football supporters who haven't spent a pound following their team yet affiliate themselves with those teams because 'they do well'? Its all wrong. I will never stop going to games, I love united, i love the banter and laugh with the lads pre match in the pub, the singing, the joy when we win, the despair when we lose, but the whole experience with your mates is what makes being a match going football fan special. Chip? No fella, No chip here, Just a passionate match going football supporter with no respect whatsoever for those that don't contribute.

That's lovely. But I get enough highs and lows from life itself without having to focus them all into a 'football' metaphor.....just to be a true fan.

I've been to hundreds of football matches, and fully agree that it's much more passionate when you're actually there, but that's a separate issue to whether or not you can be a proper fan when you don't go to the games.

You are not a football fan if you dont go...its that simple. Ask any match going football fan and they'll tell you the same. I can assure you i am not alone in this opinion.

Jamie19: A massive amount of income for Man Utd comes from fans across the globe who don't go to OT. That money pays the wages of the players, supports the infrastructure of the club. You get the opportunity to go cheer on those players that are part funded by 'non' fans. You should be thanking them.

As for the ABUs, well yeah you are right there obviously.

I am not talking about our overseas support, on about the football fans on these shores who follow united or any other top 4 club or indeed any club but never go. I perhaps should have been more clear on this earlier. I realise the tv money, merchandising abroad, the asian market etc has contributed greatly to our success. I accept that, i just dont think you can call yourself a football supporter if you live in this country and dont go.

I think you underestimate how much those fans bring to the club Jamie19. Together they bring much more money to the club than you season ticket holders do.

And that's before we even go into those tens of thousands of fans who would love nothing more than to have an OT season ticket but can't afford one because the club is pricing them out, you despise them too?

I know the issue all to well here in the USA - growing up a Yankee fan, I would always take the subway to every game I could go to. Many seasons I made it to almost every home game (thats about 80 per year). Once I started working, I bought season tickets. My season tickets back then cost under $25 per game (decent seats). Now those same tickets cost $200 per game. Cant afford $16K per season per ticket, nor am I willing to pay that for 1 game. I guess being a fan has its price, and my limit was reached. I'll watch games once in a while, but no longer consider myself a fan of the team nor the sport, not because I dont love the Yankees, but hate what the sport has become. Used to have great VIP season tickets for FC Porto as well, until we won the champions league in 2004, after which the cost quadrupled. Will still fly out for games, but overall dissapointed in what sports have become. So being a fanatic has its limits too, especially if you can no longer afford to be one.

the bridge is only loud when united are there! fact! And you cant call yourselves noisy away supporters onelife! 'carefree', one man went to mow and chewsea' is all we got and do get every year from your joke of a club. You can't tell me your comparing the bridge to Old Trafford on our respective match days cos they're really isn't a case to be made here. United's away support is second to none, that's not conjecture, that's a fact and when Chelsea start selling their whole allocation for united for a start, let alone sing louder than us, then we'll talk.

Maybe if you start saving that money instead of spending it on season tickets at Old Trafford you'll eventually be able to move out of your mum and dad's. As for your away support, you calling it the best 'fact' doesn't make it fact. Half of them don't know who played for you past five years ago. What is 'fact' is that in the majority of people's lifetimes United have been the most successful club in English football, unfortunately, and it shows as 95% of your fans are glory supporters and will no doubt be jumping ship when you are knocked from your perch. A 6-1 thrashing at home the pre-cursor to that. I understand you might be a proud and dedicated fan, and appreciate that you dont represent the majority, but your whole life as United fan has been spent supporting your club through thick and thicker whilst others have been supporting theirs through thick and thin. United fans have it easy, it doesn't take 'love for their club' for them to gloat about their numerous PL titles and demand credit for being a 'supporter' of the club that was favourite to win the league at the start of the season anyway, it is glory supporting. All the things you have posted just show you to be desperate of some sense of achievement. When Chelsea win the league I'm happy for them, I'm glad that the club and the players have managed to be champions, whereas when Man U do it I bet you claim that you were somehow involved and deserve credit. Thats the difference. It's quality over quantity, you have superior quantity than us, but we have more quality than you'll ever have.

Jamie.. i'm sorry but your clearly just wrong on this one..If what you say is true your limiting "true united fans" are the ones that have money? there may be people that have moved from manchester or simply cannot afford a season ticket because they have to support a family etc etc...so yea..your clearly wrong

Having a season ticket doesn't make you any more informed than those that don't!

Personally, I don't see Rooney having a great weekend. Yes, United should beat Everton on paper, but it is still a difficult fixture - better opportunities for captain points elsewhere.

I think SAF will ring the changes defensively, so I don't see you conceding 6 again this week.

Hey there all really need some help as i'm having some transfer dillemas

it primarily reagrds 4 players in my side- bosingwa, matalan, tiote and adebayor.

i wanna get bosingwa and mata out cos of thier fixtures
my instinct says get walker and vdv in and i can afford them
however i dont want to overload on one team and this would give me 3 spurs players and nobody from man united or chelsea.
thus part of me is saying pick one out of the two bosingwa to walker and mata to vdv transfers to make, particularly as i only have 1 free transfer and am reluctant to take a points hit.

any idea i had was potentially trying to get cleverly in for tiote, and finding the funds through swapping adebaor for sturridge, again taking a 4 point hit.

please can i get some opinions on which of these transfers sound the best, wether the double swap from chelsea to spurs is too much or not, or wether i should look at changing adebayor and tiot

argh i've worked myself into a state of panick about this as i wanna sort it buy tonite particularly with vdv's price due to rise again. and help hugely appreciated thanks all

Oh for gods sake give it up. I'm a Wigan fan (yes one of the very few) and your rants are ridiculous. I had a seaon ticket for a few years but life and jobs got in the way and now I can't. I hate the fact that you even bothered to express those opinions, everyone has the right to support a football team, the fact that yours is more successful than most at this time means that you have more glory fans. Who gives a crap. If your worst moments in the last few years are losing a few champions league finals then consider yourself lucky & leave your rants!
