Fantasy Football Scout are pleased to announce the seventh instalment of the open-to-all, free-to-enter Paddy Power Cup competition.

Organised and run by contributors “Akers” and “Superior Being”, this is your chance to join our previous winners – donnellyc, Jonty, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints, sleepingmaster and reigning champion Mch – in our hall of fame. For full details on how to enter, when it starts and the prizes on offer, read on…

We’re changing the format of our cup tournaments this season – instead of three cup competitions that overlap, we’ll be running this first Paddy Power Cup, the Members Cup and then a first Fantasy Football Scout Shield. This final tournament will take place over the final four Gameweeks of the season and includes just 16 teams – the Quarter-Finalists from both the Paddy Power and the Members Cup. There’s therefore extra incentive to enter and do well in our first two tournaments.

Read on for details on the Paddy Power cup but, if you’re a veteran, you can go straight here to make your entry.

What is the Paddy Power Cup?

The Paddy Power Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Manager highest in the overall standing will progress.

When does it start?

The qualifying round takes place in Gameweek 10 but you can enter after the Gameweek is played out. All entries received before Monday November 5 will be entered into the qualifying round. In this first cup competition we will have 1024 qualifiers for the first round – those 1018 (plus 6 previous winners who earn a bye) with the top scores in Gameweek 10 will progress to the first round proper to be played in Gameweek 11. Again, FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions.

How do I enter?

Simply fill out the entry form here. You will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry. You can also check that you are entered via this list.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying round will be published on Tuesday November 6

What is the Gameweek Schedule

Each round of the Paddy Power Cup will be played out over the following schedule:

  • Qualifying – Gameweek 10
  • Round 1 – 1024 teams – Gameweek 11
  • Round 2 – 512 teams – Gameweek 12
  • Round 3 – 256 teams – Gameweek 13
  • Gameweek 14 – Break
  • Round 4 – 128 teams – Gameweek 15
  • Round 5 – 64 teams – Gameweek 16
  • Round 6 – 32 teams – Gameweek 17
  • Round 7 – 16 teams – Gameweek 18
  • Gameweek 19 – Break
  • Quarter-Finals – 8 teams – Gameweek 20
  • Gameweek 21 – Break
  • Semi-Finals – 4 teams – Gameweek 22
  • The Final – 2 teams – Gameweek 23

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round will be published a day or two before each Gameweek deadline.

Are there prizes?

Sponsors Paddy Power are supplying the competition with some great prizes and we’re supplementing these with Amazon Vouchers. The prizes break down as follows:

Winner – £100 worth of free bets. £100 Amazon Voucher
Runner-up – £50 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £25 Amazon Voucher

In addition, the Quarter-Finalists from this tournament will gain entry to the Fantasy Football Scout Shield where they will play the eight Quarter-Finalists from this season’s Members Cup. Should any team qualify for the Shield from both Cup tournaments, then the highest scoring losing team from the last sixteen of either cup will gain entry to complete the FFS Shield entries.

Cup Entrants will need a Paddy Power account and be aged 18 or over to be eligible for some of the above prizes. Prizes are also subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. You can, of course, enter without being over 18 and without a Paddy Power account but will not be eligible for the free bet prizes.

If you’ve yet to register a Paddy Power account, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This season I have very unsettled with my team, i think it's because there is no sure captain every week, or maybe just not a captain getting 30pts a week like RVP was....I feel like there are not many teams keeping clean sheets so we should be looking for cheap defenders on cheap teams like West Brom or Stoke....One expensive that is involved in attack like Baines. Most of your money needs to be in attack, and since points are spread out this year it is hard to make a clear 'good' decision.

    Manone Foster

    Demel Rangel Rafael Lescott Baines

    Hazard Carzola Guthrie Dyer Kacanicic

    RVP Ba Fletcher

I think I need to get Demel, Guthrie, Dyer out now.....Fletcher out after this week....and I am worried about Bale and might swap for Corzola.....

    some1 speak to me.

Why so many people with Sterling? Aren't you worried about possible rotation or inconsistency of such a young player? Has no set-piece either. I bet the first match he doesn't start everyone will be dropping him..

Who do liverpool have as a replacement? He's been on of their best players and is getting better every game. Sounds like a case of a bandwagon you aren't on and hence not admitting that you're late and getting yourself in a trap by just talking yourself out of it.

missing the first game of the season probably isnt enuf to class him as rotation risk, esp with Borini warming the bench.. The first match he doesnt start, hopfully your first sub will be decent to cover him, esp with the extra dosh you'll have with Sterling being in ur team.

Fall Ba Fall. I want you, on the cheap!
Cant find a way to get him in for the good run of fixtures without compromising on the team. Ugh!

Care to help. Get Ba for GW11.
    Begovic McCarthy
    Baines Sagna Rafael Gorkss Clyne
    Michu Santi Mata Pienaar Sterling
    RVP Berbatov Tevez

    0.5M
You will probably say get rid of Sagna/Rafael, but have a look at their fixtures!
Any bright ideas there? Preferabely want to get rid of Berbatov.

Losing Santi is preferable. If Ba falls by 0.2 and if Walcott gets a run, i am thinking Santi -> Theo/Valencia and Berba -> Ba.

how much prise rise/value would you take a hit for?

for example juan mata will keep rising 0.3m every week until most have him in. i bought him in sunday evening after united game and he is close to rising 0.2m. same for sterling.

so for four points iv already gained value of 0.5m over my rivals which i think is worth a 4pt hit in long run. come second part of season, i will be able to get the big hitters while they will struggle.

paid off last year if you do it cleverly

A friend gave me some good advice regarding trying to catch people above me after the worst transfer ever (RVP-->Aguero for 4 point hit).

My rival is 30 points ahead and I keep trying gambles (Giroud, Aguero) to try and get above him, but fantasy football is, as he put it, a game of tortoisemanship. In the end, my lads can catch him. If I get two points more than him every week from now on, I will win. Slow and steady wins the race, form over fixtures and if I don't have someone who I want to have for that week, I'll just have to go without and hope for the best, because it's so much worse when you gamble and fail. But I'm sure most of you know that.

This looks like a gameweek where I will have to make a big decision on my team, options have so far boiled down to this.

      a) Caz and Tevez to 7.5 mid and RVP(-4)
      b) Caz and Jelly to 6.7 mid and RVP (-4)
      c) Jenkinson, Nolan, Tevez to Nelsen, Sterling, RVP(-8)
      d) Jenkinson to Nelsen and get RVP next week.

As my mid priced mid I am thinking Hoilett for options a and b.

      Thanks for any thoughts!
