The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Tuesday

Sunderland seal a crucial win over Reading to drag themselves out of the drop zone. James McClean and Steven Fletcher grab the first-half goals, while Stephane Sessegnon leaves his Fantasy owners frantic before finally slotting home a late third.

On the Up

Stephane Sessegnon
Over 68,000 FPL managers drafted in the Benin international prior to the double Gameweek deadline – Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson and James McClean had a combined tally of around 36,000. With seconds to go, we were cursing our luck as it seemed he was to disappoint but Sessegnon duly delivered to put a smile on plenty Fantasy managers’ faces. With United, City, Spurs and Liverpool in his next five, though, many will be already planning an exit.

Steven Fletcher
Martin O’Neill was particularly cagey over the forward’s chances of starting tonight after his recent ankle injury. Fletcher missed out against Chelsea at the weekend but managed to shrug off the problem to notch his seventh strike of the season. Now up to 74 points in FPL, he’s ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney but the above-mentioned run of upcoming fixtures is likely to deter many more from investing.

Adam Johnson
The former City man benefitted from an “FPL” assist earlier this evening. A corner from Johnson was cleared by the visitors defence but only as far as James McClean – the winger’s converted attempt boosted his fellow wide man’s double Gameweek haul. Johnson has now produced attacking returns in five of his last seven appearances, though his owners were denied the chance of further points after he was subbed off at half-time with a leg problem.

James McClean
Prior to the double Gameweek, the winger had managed a single assist all season and had started just two of Sunderland’s previous six. Having provided an assist for Adam Johnson’s consolation against Chelsea at the weekend, he needed just one minute to open his account for the season and suggest he’s starting to come into form after a poor first half of the campaign.

Going Down

Kaspars Gorkss
As expected, Sean Morrison failed to recover from the ankle injury sustained against Southampton last weekend. Surprisingly, though, it was Alex Pearce who was given the nod to start alongside Adrian Mariappa, suggesting the Latvian has slipped even further down the pecking order for a spot at centre-half.

Phil Bardsley
Having started the previous six, his place at right-back seemed assured since recovering from a hamstring injury. It was something of a surprise, then, to see Bardsley dropped to the bench, with Craig Gardner preferred at right-back instead. He came on after the break to replace the injured Johnson but lasted just 31 minutes before limping off injured.

Sunderland Injuries
Martin O’Neill has plenty concerns ahead of the weekend trip to United. Danny Rose joined Johnson and Bardsley in limping off – in a defensive reshuffle, Carlos Cuellar finished the match at right-back as Titus Bramble entered the fray at centre-half. If the injuries are carried into the weekend, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney owners will be even more confident of returns.

    Morning chaps,

My team for the weekend is as follows -

    Foster (WHU)
Cuellar (mun) Hughes (qpr) Demel (wba) Baines (stk)
Cazorla (rdg) Silva (new) Sterling (AVL) Michu (tot)
    VP (SUN) Suarez (AVL)

    Begovic (EVE) Lambert Clyne Puncheon

I have two free trannies and have 2.6 in the bank. The team is in some nick with only 3 outfielders playing at home. My gut is telling to go Cuellar to GJ and save a trannie but that leaves no bench. Any other ideas out there?

Considering a 4 point hit to move Cuellar on for Nastasic as I have the exact money. Feel I owe him a bit of loyalty now though! Keeping Mig and Shorey for a bit.

Yeah, I'd say so.. Enrique could be a slight worry, I'm also going into the week with him in my 11 and no subs.. Even if he doesn't end up playing I still wouldn't take a hit just to cover the risk as you'd probably end up with less points than you would have him just not playing.

Am I really the only Arsenal fan who was happy about that Bradford City game? Arguably the strongest we have and we were embarrassed by a league two team. Good. Awesome. Now maybe this "form is temporary and class is permanent" nonsense will end, take a step back a realize how awful, truly awful, they are right now. Can't believe Wenger's excuse was the other team defended well...I don't care how well they played, at the end of the day there is a gap of two entire leagues between those two teams. Remember, Arsenal have not beaten a full strength english team without cheating since October 6th.

My front line is: RVP Tevez Ba

Who would you change for whom?

Not got much spare change. Could do Tevez out Torres in or Ba out Defoe in.

Rooney or Suarez would either need RVP out, or 2 transfers for Tevez + Ba out and either Suarez + 7.5 or Rooney + 5.9 in.

Anyone got a compelling case for getting rid of one of my current 3 or for Torres/Defoe or for a cheapie?

      Tevez to Defoe, imo.

Form for Rooney and Defoe is insane.

Ever notice how so many footballers are religious? as in they always thank god when they score. Goes to show God doesn't help Atheists.

Or maybe footballers are, generally, quite dumb. Draw your own conclusions there.

In a bit of a fix
    FEDERICI (MIGNOLET)
    Cameron Shorey CUELLAR (DEMEL Clyne)
    Cazorla Fellaini Sterling (Mata Puncheon)
    Rvp Ba Suarez

    3.7 in bank
    1 FT

The names in capital are the ones i want to sell but cant sell any of my players startin this week cause i just got 10 as it is.. So gotta sell Demel.. OR a player not playin this week.. thinkin
    A) Demel to Sagna/Nelson
    B) Puncheon to Michu

Really like Punch but it's not like i'll play him much over the next few weeks

64 with Fellaini captain fail. The DGW curse struck again, with Shorey starting and Clyne/Nelson on the bench who both outscored him. Hey ho at least it's out the way now.

Looking forward to Chels DGW as I have 3 players involved already! 😉

A DGW that has yet to be announced.

You're prepared for something that will probably occur around GW36 🙂

Ha ha yeah weeks away! But Mata and Clyne will still be around then I'm sure, maybe Schniederlin too as my bench fodder.

Rushes to FPL for a price check. 6.6m is tempting.

I was looking at him. GJ at 6.3 is much better value in the short term.

    My team for this GW

    Begovic

    Hughes // Sagna // Rafael

    Michu // Nolan // Sterling // Fellaini

    RVP // Suarez // Defoe

Subs: Jussi // Demel // Shorey // *Mata

Quietly confident of a good score again this week.. but captain choice has stumped me. Any of the front 3 are contenders, then the likes of Michu as he sorted me out this week could also be a good choice.. what would you do?

I would start Shorey over Hughes until the cows come home mate! Reading are home to a poor Arsenal and he has more chance of attacking returns than Hughes, and quite possibly a better CS potential.
