Tottenham’s new striker Roberto Soldado and the Fantasy Premier League game’s new Bonus Points System were among the key issues vexing the community over the past seven days. We take our weekly look back at the big discussions that have recently slipped off the Hot Topics widget, as well as catch up with the latest developments in our community leagues.

Transfer dealings have caught the eye of the community this week, with Mathmo running the rule over Tottenham’s latest recruit Soldado. Mathmo predicts he may take a little while to adapt to the English Premier League but once he does the goals are set to flow. Be warned though, it seems that Soldado is unlikely to rack up many assists.
Soldado and Wayne Rooney were the latest subjects of our resident video expert Brutus619, who has been analysing their performances to assess their key strengths. Turns out both could be set for ‘surprise package’ status this season.
The 3rd Turd has been at his abacus again to look closely at the FPL’s new bonus system and create one of our most popular ever comment posts. His analysis based on 2011/12 data gives a game by game breakdown of how the new bonus allocation would have affected players’ points during that season. Turns out that goalkeepers could be the surprise beneficiaries of the changes. Make a cuppa before sitting down and soaking this one up.
Fifth midfield options provided the inspiration for Kings of Lyon’s post, which sparked an interesting discussion about the best budget options in midfield. Could Everton’s Ross Barkley be a surprise selection in teams? Athletico Timbo certainly thinks he’s worth considering. For Evs, Cardiff’s Kim could be a shrewd purchase at just 5m in the FPL game. According to our resident Wales expert the word on the streets of Cardiff is that not only is Kim nailed on, but a role in “the hole” behind a lone forward beckons.
Ever wondered how the Premier League’s newest recruits would have fared under an FPL scoring model in their previous leagues? The Puntmaster was on hand to delve into the stats and create these remarkable tables of their progress if FPL points had been applied to leagues such as The Championship and La Liga.

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) reached the second round of bidding for strikers last week. The best player in the round, Robert Lewandowski, moved to BonZ’s Cardiff, while the leaders of the game are now Norwich, under The Shadow’s guidance. This week, clubs will be looking to trade players amongst themselves.
Meanwhile FFS UEFA’s leagues return for their third installment, and along with it the live score site, press releases, matchday reviews and a lot more. If you want to represent a European club of your choice, be sure to check out the details and register here before the deadline of August 9.
