World Cup 2014 – Quarter Finals Predicted Line Ups

Ahead of the World Cup quarter finals, we’ve compiled a working community article listing each teams’ expected line-up. Based on community feedback via the comment section below, this article will be updated with lineup changes and any points of interest with credits given to those who contribute.

Brazil (4-2-3-1)

Julio Cesar; Alves, Thiago (c), Luiz, Marcelo; Paulinho, Fernandinho; Hulk, Oscar, Neymar; Fred.

Notes: Gustavo is suspended with Paulinho set to replace him. Manager Felipe Scolari is reportedly considering dropping Fred and opting for a striker-less formation. This could see Hulk move into the centre with Ramires drafted in to the shore up the midfield.

Netherlands (5-2-3)

Cillessen; de Vrij, Vlaar, Martins Indi; Kuyt, Janmaat; Blind, Wijnaldum ; Sneijder, Robben; van Persie (c).

Note: With de Jong injured Blind is set to replace him in midfield alongside Wijnaldum. Janmaat is likely to come in at right wingback, with Kuyt taking left wingback duties. Research by Demi.

Colombia (4-2-3-1)

Ospina; Zúñiga, Zapata, Yepes, Armero; Sánchez, Aguilar; Cuadrado, Gutiérrez, Rodríguez; Martínez

Costa Rica (5-2-3)

Navas; Gamboa, Umana, Gonzalez, Acosta, Diaz; Borges, Tejeda; Bolanos, Ruiz (c); Campbell.

Notes: Acosta is likely to replace the suspended Duarte. Research by Demi.

France (4-3-3)

Lloris (c); Debuchy, Varane, Sakho, Evra; Matuidi, Cabaye, Pogba, Valbuena, Benzema, Griezmann.

Notes: Sakho is expected to return for the Germany match. Research by Demi.

Argentina (4-3-3)

Romero; Zabaleta, Garay, Fernandez, Basanta; Mascherano, Gago, Di Maria; Messi (c), Lavezzi, Higuain.

Notes: Rojo is suspended with Basanta set to deputise. Research by Greenwindmill and Demi.

Germany (4-1-2-3)

Neuer; Boateng, Mertesacker, Hummels, Höwedes; Lahm (c); Schweinsteiger, Kroos; Muller, Ozil, Schürrle.

Notes: Coach Joachim Low is playing down the severity of a bout of flu like symptoms to affect around seven players. Schürrle is reportedly in the frame to replace Götze who had a poor last-16 game.

Belgium (4-3-3)

Courtois; Vertonghen, van Buyten, Kompany (c), Alderweireld; Fellaini, Witsel, Mertens; de Bruyne, Lukaku, Hazard

Notes: Lukaku could replace Origi after impressing as a substitute against USA.

I think a lot will depend on whether Muller recovers from his flu like symptoms. Schurlle is far from nailed on thought. He could come on as a super sub. He could replace another forward. The German line up has been the toughest to call this tournament as they have so many options up front.

Yep apologies...have updated that. Was meant to be Wij and Kuyt. Wij and Blind look v likely to form a midfield two.

There's very little difference between 433 and 4231....I think the latter is possibly more accurate as Paulinho and Fernandinho are expected to be in central/holding roles and Fred operates as an out and out striker/bloke to get in the way to allow Oscar and Neymar to do damage. During the game though it'll look like a bit of both.

Sky Sports believes Scolari might even go with 3 central defenders, if Gustavo is out. Similar to the 5 at the back that Netherlands play... thoughts??

Flop. Reminds me of the concussion suffered by Ronaldo just before the 2006 WC final game which he flopped.

Its hard to tell if he's actually fit. There's such immense pressure for him to play. Its tough...I think if he starts and is genuinely fit then he'll do well. His individual skill and performances have been great.

Pretty much 80-90 per cent for all. None are 100 per cent nailed on due to illness and formation tweaks but very likely to play I think.
