The most common response to an RMT is the word template. And usually, it is not a compliment. It conveys mediocrity, a safe choice, without the personal stamp of the owner. But like the ‘common man’ isn’t the ‘template team’ a myth? After all, isn’t each team different? Aren’t you sick of hearing the same response to each RMT you post? Well, I intend to put an end to this debate by creating the real Fantasy Premier League template.

METHOD

In order to create the template team I went to the FPL site on August 11 and copied the % ownership stat for each player, along with their team and cost. I filtered out the top players in each position, insuring the presence of both big hitters and cheap players. Using this data I proceeded to create a valid FPL team of 15 players. After a few rounds of hit and trial to comply with budget, I came up with my masterpiece…

THE FPL TEMPLATE 2014-15

Krul Myhill

Shaw Lovren Vlaar Bruce Debuchy

Barkley Sterling Ramsey Mata El Ahmadi

Rooney Sturridge Bojan

Total Team Value: 99.5

In the bank: 0.5

Max. players from one team: 3 – Man U, Liverpool

Average Player Ownership: 23.49%

Average Player Ownership is simply the average team ownership of all the 15 players. Rooney is the most common player with over 42% ownership at the time of creation. While El Ahmadi, is almost a differential with an ownership of less than 10%. At just 4.5 though, you should be willing to risk him.

Essentially, these are the players whos price will fall exponentially if they do not do well in the first few weeks.

Barkley will fall by a lot as they have tough fixtures and I don't see him scoring many.

If Bojan does well his price will rise, but it could also fall. However, there are not many other decent cheap players, so casuals will downgrade others with high ownership who don't do well to fund the move, meaning and even bigger drop.

I see Lovren dropping with those fixtures too, as a Liverpool fan.

Bruce will plummet to about 3.8 in a couple of weeks.

I think its pretty self explanatory.

The caveat being however, players with high ownership require a greater number of transfers out to fall in price.

If a lot of the ownership of some players falls in dead teams the price fall will not be so significant.

The players who fall quickly will be those who have a high ownership % within active players.

Dead teams do not all die immediately. Some of them make a few bandwagon transfers in the early game-weeks before dying, so players with undeservedly high initial ownership who fail to score well or even to play in the early game-weeks are quite likely to suffer early price drops.

The other players likely to suffer early price drops are those who have been over-hyped on sites for active players but who do not have a large ownership by the casuals.

5/15 for me: Krul, Ramsey, Mata, Sturridge and Bojan.

For GW1, this is my back four + subs - with 0.5 ITB. Any suggestions on improvements?

    Green (Krull)
    Distin, Cameron, Cahill (Williams, Moore)

    Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Especially since many here and quite a few professional pundits expect Chelsea to win the league.

I don't actually accept the premis of the article. What NISAG has done is compile a template of the Casuals, who are a different breed to that of the FFScout posters. I'm not suggesting anybody actually does the spadework, but I'm sure if you compiled an aggregate squad from all the RMTs on this site you'd get a somewhat different picture.
