Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Arsenal
Jack Wilshere was forced off with a knee problem in the weekend draw with Hull. Post-match, though, Arsene Wenger allayed fears over the midfielder’s fitness by insisting he’ll be available to play in the midweek Champions League encounter against Benfica.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker deputised for the injured Philippe Senderos away to Everton but was forced off after sustaining a “pretty bad” hamstring injury, Paul Lambert has confirmed. The Villa boss has since revealed he is optimistic that Senderos will return for next Monday’s trip to QPR.

Crystal Palace
The club’s official match report confirmed midfielder James McArthur was withdrawn just before the hour-mark after picking up a muscle injury in the narrow home loss to Chelsea.

Hull
Nikica Jelavic is set for scans later today after sustaining a twisted knee during the warm-up prior to the Tigers’ draw at Arsenal. Elsewhere, Steve Bruce has concerns at the back – the Hull boss revealed keeper Steve Harper was forced off with a damaged muscle in his arm, whilst Michael Dawson also had to be replaced at the Emirates after picking up a late injury. Speaking to the club’s official website, Bruce explained:

“Jelavic has unfortunately twisted his knee and he will have a scan on Monday. Dawson has an ankle problem and Harper looks as if he has ruptured his bicep, which is a horrible injury. We are probably going to have to recall Mark Oxley from his loan spell at Hibernian.”

Liverpool
Daniel Sturridge was missing yet again as the Reds squeezed past QPR at Loftus Road yesterday. After the 3-2 win, Brendan Rodgers rolled out an update on the injured striker, who has now failed to feature since Gameweek 3 for the Merseysiders:

“’He was returning from his thigh injury and medically everything was fine with that. Then, on his very first morning, he was jogging around the pitch in the warm-up – there was no action, no striking of a ball. He was jogging around the field and then in the actual warm-up, he felt his calf a little tight. The scan shows that there is a little bit of damage in his calf. So the medical team tell me it’s probably between two to four weeks, which is a huge disappointment for us. But we have enough players now.”

Manchester City
Frank Lampard was stretchered off within half an hour of City’s home win over Spurs with a muscle injury. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed after the match that the midfielder will miss tomorrow’s Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow. Pablo Zabaleta was omitted from the squad entirely but this was purely down to rest – he’s travelled to Russia and is expected to start tomorrow.

Newcastle
Paul Dummett was withdrawn after 72 minutes of the weekend win over Leicester after suffering a recurrence of the hamstring problem which forced him out of international duties. Mike Williamson missed out altogether due to injury, the Magpies have confirmed. Cheick Tiote was forced out of the Magpies’ starting XI after picking up a knock during the pre-match warm-up.

QPR
Rob Green missed yesterday’s clash with Liverpool due to illness, allowing Alex McCarthy his first start of the season. Elsewhere at the back, Nedum Onouha was replaced at the break against the Reds after picking up a hamstring injury. Sandro was also replaced midway through the second period after picking up an injury, according to the club’s official Twitter stream.

Stoke
Reports suggest Victor Moses was subbed off midway through the second  half of yesterday’s win over Swansea due to injury. Phil Bardsley picked up a knock late on but, with the home side having made all three substitutions, stayed on the field.

Swansea
Defender Ashley Richards missed the trip to Stoke due to injury.

West Ham
James Tomkins was sidelined for the weekend win at Burnley after picking up a thigh problem, whilst Mauro Zarate also missed the match due to a minor knee problem.

What Suarez did last season was remarkable given he didn't have pens, which Aguero does

Even more incredible is that Kun has 0 assists this season

Just like Costa... falls down on assists, compared to Suarez.

Costa is target man, he never had a lot of assists. Aguero is more team player, trying to do something on every part of the pitch. If he stay fit, he can easily score 30 goals.

But Suarez did that AND got a load of assists. This is what made him so much better than any other striker, maybe including this season's Aguero.

Aguero will get some assits,also..I think he will have atleast 7-8 real asissts and 4-5 more FPL asissts. He is that type of player, he have to get it 🙂

Best player in the league when fit. Rivals the best in the world when in form.

He is, however, a home-boy. His scoring tally at home is fantastic, away is another story.

Don't get me wrong, he has scored well away, something like a goal a game this season, but he doesn't often score more than one goal away. Only on 4 occasions he has managed to score more than one goal away. This makes him a poor captain choice away, yet a no brainier at home.

That's the difference between him and Suarez, you could captain Bucky and he could score double figures home or away. Aguero is a different story.

      > Is Aguero this season's Suarez?

Yes, in that he could be the highest scoring player & *define* game weeks / create watershed season moments between those who have & captain him vs. those that do not.

No, in that I don't feel Aguero has the same potential to reach Suarez's total score, because of Champion's League commitments & the subsequent potential for rest / rotation.

you could relax with suarez knowing he'd get 90 every game, not get injured etc. also i think suarez was more reliable at swatting aside the guff. aguero more reliable in the bigger games

Aguero or Costa might be if they can keep out of the treatment room and on the pitch. But that isn't likely. Anyway, it's much too soon to tell.

Yes, true. And they probably will interchange.

Not sure where Januzaj prefers, but I'd expect ADM to prefer the right.

        • 12 Years
        11 years, 1 month ago

Zero chance of that. LVG has spoken about Januzaj as a striker, but mainly because it was the only way to get him in a 3-5-2. If it's two up, it'll be Januzaj. 4-3-3 seems likely though.

If LVG is playing 4-2-3-1 against WBA he'll prob play it again against Chelsea. Rooney suspended so Mata in the hole again like tonight? Or Will Mata be dropped for someone more defensive like Valencia or Carrick given it's Chelsea?

    Costa / Pelle / Falcao
    0FT, 1.4M itb

If Costa is healthy, is it worth it to go -8 to move a weak defender such as Ward > Hutton and Falcao (or possibly injured Costa) > Aguero? I am just shy of a straight Costa/Falcao > Kun transfer.

          its a really tough one!

i dont think i'd go costa -> aguero unless costa is out 2+ more gameweeks

and i dont think chances are big for aguero+hutton to ge 8 more points than falcao+ward

so my opinion is only if costa is out...which i dont think we'll know until next gameweek...hopefully they'll say something durng champions.

i have costa welbs ulloa, not the same, but similar problem.

          good luck

Eriksen if money is no issue. He is central, on the up and on set pieces. His at least as good a footballer as Chadli, I'd say better, and is starting in a very similar position on the pitch.

      From FPL stat:
      Foster -10% (+600 today)
      Guzan +60% (+429)
      Lloris +2% (+2713)

Guzan might increase value if he score well next few games and less risk of dropping
Lloris looks to be the most popular choice as of now

I'd say it's a reasonable shout after his first goal last week. Don;t think anyone really expected him to be benched, and WBA are not the toughest opponents, home or away.

Jose Mourinho’s latest fitness report on Diego Costa has not only all but ruled Chelsea’s main striker out of Tuesday’s Champions League game against Maribor but also gives him “very little” chance of playing at Manchester United on Sunday.
Costa’s ongoing hamstring problem kept him out of Saturday’s trip to Selhurst Park, and led to Mourinho making pointed jibes about how Spain used the 26-year-old for “big games” against Slovakia and Luxembourg “and he came back in a condition where he’s not available for his club”.
The Chelsea manager said Costa had “little, very little [chance],” of playing against United. “I say Maribor, no chance; Man United, very little – but very little,” he said.
Costa has defied such expectations before, however, and Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace was Chelsea’s first Premier League match this season in which the Spaniard did not start.
But Mourinho praised the side for overcoming the absence of a striker already seen as indispensable in a hard-fought game, in which Oscar and Cesc Fabregas scored for Chelsea and both Cesar Azpilicueta and the Palace defender Damien Delaney were sent off.
“It was good for the group to have an important victory without one player that till this moment has scored so many goals and given us so many points,” Mourinho said.

I think even if he blanks his ownership will go up. Plenty of people probably still looking to get him in, especially more casual players. Look at similar player's 'transfer in' column even after they have stopped scoring for a couple.
