Paddy Says – Gameweek 34

We’ve built Gameweek 34 up to almost epic proportions and now, after a humbling experience last weekend, we’re left wondering if it’s going to come crashing down around our ears. Can Paddy Power’s odds somehow offer us reassurance as the deadline descends upon us?

Before we scan Paddy’s Anytime Goalscorer and Clean Sheet reckoning, a reminder that those without an account with our bookmaker friends can look to cash in on another raft of weekend bets offering enhanced odds.

Paddy’s Premier League treble offers new customers huge odds of 25/1 on wins for Manchester United (vs Aston Villa), Everton (vs Southampton) and Man City (at Chelsea). You can also get an individual offer on that Chelsea vs City clash with Paddy offering boosted odds of 9/1 on a win for Manuel Pellegrini’s troops.

Sunday also comes packaged with its own treble bet with odds of 16/1 available on wins for Liverpool (at Bournemouth), Leicester (vs West Ham) and Arsenal (vs Crystal Palace). Again, you can get individual enhanced odds on that Emirates match-up with Paddy providing odds of 4/1 on a win for the Gunners.

Finally on Monday night, you can choose to put your money on Tottenham’s title chase as Paddy offer up odds of 6/1 on a Spurs win at Stoke City.

Be sure to check the terms and conditions on all those offers and, of course, we should state that all these specials are only available to those aged 18. If you’re going to wager, always gamble responsibly.

With Manchester United heavily backed to dish out some heavy damage to a lowly Aston Villa outfit at Old Trafford, it’s no surprise to see their attacking protagonists dominate Paddy’s goalscoring chart.

Wayne Rooney’s name at the top with odds of just 1.72 is, however, a little jarring. He seems likely to be given an initial watching brief for today’s encounter but he’s also backed here by likely starters – double Gameweek favourite, Anthony Martial (1.83) and our Differential pick, Marcus Rashford (2.20). Visitors Villa arrive in Manchester having shipped 13 goals in their last five league outings.

With three goals in his last four starts, Captain Poll leader Alexis Sanchez (1.90) ranks third before Arsenal’s home clash against Crystal Palace.

The Eagles’ rearguard was breached seven times in their last three road ties, ensuring that Olivier Giroud (2.10), Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott (all 2.29) are also priced keenly. It should also be noted that Alex Iwobi’s form has not gone unrecognised by Paddy – the 4.7 priced starlet is also handed odds of just 2.29 for a goal in Sunday’s Emirates encounter.

With a weary Manchester City pitted against a resurgent Chelsea outfit, Sergio Aguero – despite scoring in his last two league starts – is handed relatively modest odds of 2.00 for a Gameweek goal. For that same reason, the explosive Argentine claimed just 19% of the vote in our Captain Poll.

Fresh from a brace against Sunderland, Jamie Vardy (2.10) locks horns with a West Ham United defence that’s conceded nine goals in four fixtures. Harry Kane can also be backed at 2.10 when he takes on a Stoke City back line that surrendered four goals at Anfield last time out.

Considering that Romelu Lukaku (2.29) is carrying a minor groin injury and hasn’t scored in four league outings, the Belgian appears to offer poor value ahead of a home encounter with Southampton. Everton have posted three blanks in their previous four match-ups and have been abject in front of their own fans throughout the campaign. Having said that, the Saints arrive on Merseyside without a shut-out in their last seven which will offer a crumb of comfort to those holding Lukaku in hope he comes through his pre-match fitness test.

Aston Villa have failed to score in four of their last five matches further promoting a Manchester United defence that has been imperious at Old Trafford. That installs Louis van Gaal’s men as clear favourites to seal a Gameweek clean sheet with short odds of just 1.57 on the shut-out.

Despite shipping three goals to Andy Carroll and West Ham at Upton Park last time out, Arsenal (2.00) remain a strong bet against a Crystal Palace attack that has notched just three goals in their last four league matches.

Further down the odds, Spurs (2.40) have registered shut-outs in three of their last four fixtures and have conceded fewer goals than any team in away fixtures (13), while West Bromwich Albion (2.50) will fancy their chances of stifling a Watford unit that has drawn blanks in four of their previous six outings.

West Ham have their work cut out besting a Leicester (2.62) defence that’s tallied seven clean sheets in eight home ties. Meanwhile, Norwich City (2.80) will attempt to rebuff the advances of a Sunderland side that’s scored just twice in their last four in a tense Carrow Road six-pointer.

Newcastle United and Liverpool are both pitched at 2.80 for the first of their double Gameweek showdowns. The Magpies mustered a solitary clean sheet in their previous 17 encounters, while the Reds battle a Bournemouth outfit that have carded blanks in two of their last three fixtures.

Looking for a defender that is maximum of 5mill and doesn't play for Liverpool or Man United. Or a goalkeeper that I can swap Mignolet out for, and keep my Liverpool defender (Clyne). Any thoughts?

How sure are people of Gabriel being dropped? Worth replacing if able to? He has such great fixtures, will be quite frustrating if he does end up playing both after all this.

Mert up against Zaha & Bolasie is an accident waiting to happen.

Wenger got slated for not playing Mert against Carroll - surely he won't make the same mistake by playing Mert against Palace

Does anyone else think that GW33 points need to be added to GW34 in order to assess if playing the WC in 33 worked out well? I saw a lot of knee jerk comments saying that WC in 33 and BB in 34 didn't work but surely it's too soon to judge right?

I got burnt last week after selling Toby, Siggie, Allie and Vardy but don't regret playing my WC as I have 13 DGW players and a squad set up to deal with GW35 and DGW 37.

It is but I'm not sure how many players will play both games now. Should still be a decent week coma red to non WCers at least.

    2. @persecuted_by_mods
        8 years, 20 days ago

Well the difference between the points you would have got in gw33 without a wildcard and with have to be factored in, but i'm pretty sure we're all in the same boat on that, we lost points by using the wildcard.

And tbh assuming if we never used it last week we would wildcard this week, again we'd be in a better boat e.g no gabriel lukaku barkley etc. So it's pretty much an all round unmitigated disaster.

It would have been much better to wc this week, i severely doubt the bench boost will negate all the losses of last week and the better decisions we could have made by waiting a week

Personally I don't regret playing the WC in GW33. I weighed up the facts and thought Utd had a decent chance of a low scoring draw or narrow defeat against Spurs. I also thought Sunderland might get a 0-0 against Leicester. It didn't work out that way but I don't think it was down to poor decision making. On another week it could have worked out well.

AOA isn't as lucrative in a DGW.

A question for those who are saving their WC for GW36/37. Which teams will you be buying players from bearing in mind that Liverpool have Europa league commitments and Man Utd will be going for the FA Cup?

I think there could be a real RR for Liverpool and Utd whereas West Ham may be more safe and Everton are dire.
