Euro 2016

Scout Notes – Euro 2016 Friendlies

Defending champions Spain lose their 11-match unbeaten run ahead of Euro 2016 after falling to defeat at home to Georgia.

Spain 0 Georgia 1

Spain suffered a shock 1-0 home reverse at the hands of Georgia in their final pre-Euro 2016 friendly last night.

Vicente de Bosque opted for the defensive quartet he mainly favoured over the qualifiers, with right-back Juanfran, who sets you back 5.5, the cheapest option in defence. The Atletico Madrid man was replaced at the break by Hector Bellerin (5.0), though, and bearing in mind that the latter played from start to finish in the previous two, there’s perhaps enough doubts over Juanfran’s pitch time to reconsider his acquisition.

Elsewhere at the back, Gerard Pique – owned by 11% compared to Sergio Ramos’ 29% – proved the greatest close-range threat for the home side and fired three attempts inside the box. David de Gea, meanwhile, was handed his first start in four, though admits he is still uncertain over starting berth given that Del Bosque has now fielded a different keeper in each of the last three.

Despite firing 17 attempts on goal, Spain managed a mere three shots on target, with Del Bosque’s decision to opt for Aritz Aduriz over the in-form Alvaro Morata up front failing to pay off. Given that the former managed a single attempt on goal, Morata will fancy his chances of returning to the XI for the first group match with Czech Republic.

Del Bosque once again opted for Nolito on the left flank. The Celta Vigo man was unable to replicate the form that harvested back-to-back braces against Bosnia and South Korea, he was still joint-top for attempts on goal (three).

The likes of David Silva and Andres Iniesta were afforded second-half sub roles by Del Bosque. The former teed up three scoring chances in just 38 minutes but his team-mates failed to convert.

Spain XI De Gea; Juanfran (Bellerin 46), Ramos (San Jose 46), Pique, Alba; Fabregas (Iniesta 46), Busquets (Pedro 76), Alcantara (Koke 46); Vazquez (Silva 61), Aduriz, Nolito

No bonus in this format unlike fpl. It's all about Mueller. Not even sure how much ozil costs, but I'm sure there is better value elsewhere.

8.5, free kicks and corners for a big team, nailed. I don't think there's much better value. Maybe the punt on Gotze.

With so much uncertainty over starting lineups I am leaning towards making a team for matchday 1 and then using WC for matchday 2. I feel utility of WC diminishes beyond the second round in any case. Thoughts?

If your team is made up of players from big teams (Spain, Germany, France, etc.) and they get 2 wins in the first 2 matches of the group, then your strategy wont work in MD3 since they will all be rested....

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Not as Nailed On As You Think

With so much uncertainty over the Spainish goalkeeper situation it is surprising t see that in the official UEFA game De Gea has a huge 23% ownership. Clearly many managers are just picking players that they know from club football. But which other well owned, well known players are set to disappoint their owners by not being in the starting XI?

He seems likely to play but nobody seems 100% sure if he'll get the nod over Thiago. (Or maybe we've got assurances - I've not paid much attention to the Euro stuff yet)

In the last Euros del Bosque used both Fabregas and Silva as his 'false midfielders' who were making forward-y runs into the box. If that would be his plan this time too, both should be safe.

But if Cesc is seen as a more regular 10 or a holding mid, he's not guaranteed anything and can be replaceable.

      2. Biancazzurri

I think the assumption that Juanfran will start is more popular. Or is there something I missed?

Virtually any player that either has a very capable replacement on offer ie squads like Spain, Germany, France.

Also any player where their coach is clearly not fully decided on. One error or bad result and there out imo.

Take Rami for example. One error and u would think that he would be replaced. If Kosc makes that same error I highly doubt he would be replaced. Some times the extra cash is worth the security.

Of course all teams will have some of these players and the bench and sub situation means it is ok to take a few of these riskier players to help the budget. Too many and it could be an issue though.

We're literally picking our teams for a maximum of two weeks, so I think you're greatly exaggerating the issue of picking 'risky' players. If this was FPL I would've never had all three of Payet, Fabregas and Rami, of course.

Even 'nailed' players only have that status for 2 games. If their team has already qualified come Matchday 3 there could easily be wholesale rotation.

Apart from that there are fewer certain starters than people would like to think, especially for the 'bigger' countries. People can insist all they like that Alli should start for England. But that doesn't mean Hodgson will pick him. Many other well-known players from Germany, France, Spain and so on are similar in that respect.

    7. Biancazzurri
      • 11 Years

England: Clyne, Walker, Dier, Wilshere, Alli, Vardy.

Spain: Juanfran, Cesc, any forward of choice.

      Germany: Goetze?

I picked him because Spain will go pretty far I reckon (i.e semis), and 5.5 mil, he's cheaper than Court, Neuer, Lloris and Buffet. :3 I would like to get a Spanish defender, but I like my defence the way it is. So, not much choice for me. 😀
      Worth the risk for me.

I think more than 3 is too much. I have 3 playing last day - Alaba, Janko and Patricio.

Is there anyway to look back through previous hot topic green comments?

There's a hot topics tab that holds the most recent 10 topics.

If you're looking for something older than that the best place to look is in Jonty's weekly community round ups: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/?s=community+round+up - they contain links to all the hot topics that week.

      Beyond that there's Google 🙂
