Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana undergo scans ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Southampton. Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin is ruled out for four weeks with an ankle complaint, whilst Palace number one Steve Mandanda is sidelined due to a back problem as Man City roll up to Selhurst Park.

Philippe Coutinho is reported to have undergone scans on a tight hamstring ahead of Liverpool’s trip to St Mary’s. The Brazilian arrived late back from international duties on Wednesday and did not train with his team-mates yesterday as he was sent for an assessment. Adam Lallana is set for scans on the knock that forced him off in England’s clash with Spain in midweek, though has not been ruled out of contention to face his former club Southampton.

Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin has been ruled out for four weeks with an ankle injury sustained in the Gameweek 11 derby clash with Spurs. Santi Cazorla remains sidelined and has yet to return to training from an Achilles complaint, whilst Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez texted him after Chile’s win over Uruguay to confirm he is in good shape. Sanchez landed back in Britain yesterday afternoon following a long-haul flight, with Wenger set to assess him later today.

Nacer Chadli remains a doubt for West Brom’s home match with Burnley after undergoing minor knee surgery prior to the international break. Salomon Rondon has recovered from a hamstring problem, whilst James McClean is expected to be fit after being subbed off with a recurrence of his back problem in midweek.

Toby Alderweireld, Ben Davies and Erik Lamela remain sidelined for Spurs’ home clash with West Ham. Dele Alli will require a late assessment on the knee problem that kept him out of the north London derby, though Hugo Lloris, Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen and Vincent Janssen have recovered from problems picked up over the break.Mauricio Pochettino has suggested Danny Rose “is a little bit tired” after starting both of England’s recent internationals.

Winston Reid and James Collins are back in training and expected to be available for West Ham’s trip to Tottenham. Diafra Sakho has stepped up his recovery from a back injury, though Mark Noble sits this one out through suspension.

Leighton Baines and James McCarthy have recovered from injury as Everton entertain Swansea. Idrissa Gueye is available after serving a one-match ban, though Gareth Barry is sidelined with a similar suspension.

Claude Puel is optimistic on the fitness of Fraser Forster, Ryan Bertrand, Dusan Tadic and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg for Southampton’s clash with Liverpool. The Saints boss welcomes back Cedric Soares, though remains without Shane Long and Matt Targett.

Danny Drinkwater is rated “50-50” with the rib injury that forced him to withdraw from England duties. Demarai Gray is doubtful due to a calf complaint sustained over the break for England U21s, though Nampalys Mendy remains on the sidelines after suffering a setback on his recovery from an ankle problem.

Nathan Dyer is back in the Swansea squad after recovering from an ankle injury. Bob Bradley has admitted Jefferson Montero remains a doubt due to a hand injury.

Palace keeper Steve Mandanda has been ruled out of the home clash against City due to a back problem. Joe Ledley is doubtful, though Alan Pardew expects Lee Chung-Yong to recover from “a slight knock”.

Middlesbrough’s George Friend is a minor doubt for Sunday’s clash with Chelsea after picking up a knock in training.

Sebastian Prodl is back in contention for Watford’s clash with Leicester. Heurelho Gomes “should be okay”, whilst Walter Mazzarri is also optimistic on the fitness of Stefano Okaka. Craig Cathcart, Isaac Success and Christian Kabasele are all ruled out.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe will make a “a late call” on the availability of Callum Wilson and Andrew Surman, with both making “good progress” from hamstring injuries. Adam Smith serves a one-match suspension for the Cherries’ clash with Stoke.

Jack Butland is back in training but still not ready to return for Stoke’s clash with Bournemouth. Glenn Whelan is doubtful with a hamstring injury, whilst Geoff Cameron is still sidelined with an ongoing knee problem. Xherdan Shaqiri (hamstring) is back in contention, as is Marko Arnautovic, who has served a one-match ban.

Stephen Ward is back in training following a hamstring problem and “has a chance” of returning in time for Burnley’s trip to West Brom on Monday night.

    http://www.arsenal.com/match/report/1617/pre/first-team/man-united-v-arsenal-the-inside-track

“Hector is Hector,” said Wenger. “He has strong points and is a very strong player. Our team likes to go forward so we’ll try to keep these attacking options open. The options are basically Jenkinson - because Debuchy will play his first game back on Friday with the under-23s - and also Gabriel because he played a few times at left back for Villarreal.”

But don’t expect to see Shkodran Mustafi shuttling over to the right - even though he’s played there for Germany.
“I do not want to destroy what works to put a player somewhere which is not 100 per cent his position,” explained the boss. “You have to keep your strong points in the squad and our central defence has worked well, so let’s not destroy it. Sometimes, to correct one position, you don’t have to change two.”

    A. Sanchez - Hazard
    B. Walcott/Kos -> Hazard/Pieters (-4) (leaving enough for Lukaku->Costa)
    C. Neither, Leave Hazard for a few weeks

Also thinking of benching Coutinho, Madness?

    Heaton Pickford
    Kos Walker Evans Holebas Amat
    Sanchez Walcott Coutinho Gundogan Allen
    Aguero Lukaku Austin

    Pick (Jaku*)
    Walker Evans Amat* (Smith*) (Holebas*)
    Sanchez Hazard Coutinho* Firmino Allen
    Kun Lukaku (Diomande*)

    1FT £0.2m ITB

I wish I could just do Amat > Nyom, but 0.1m off.

    a) Smith > Cedric (risk of Cedric not starting, but play long game, knowing he won't get many points in next two, but planning to keep him in for the next 10 games after that)

    b) Smith > Nyom (risk of Nyom being dropped at any point, but covers well for next 3 games, and I'd just have to burn another FT in a few weeks to get Cedric in or upgrade him to Alonso and downgrade Lukaku > Austin when fixtures turn)

    c) Pray Amat starts (probably suck up 0pts and sort with my 2 FTs next week to do Lukaku + Smith > Austin + Alonso)

Thoughts on this for a wildcard team?

    Valdes // Pickford

Alonso // Evans // Pieters // Friend // van der Hoorn

    Hazard // Coutinho // Firmino // Snodgrass // Phillips

    Kun // Lukaku // Austin

    - 1.5 in the bank to fund Lukaku -> Costa next week.
    - Phillips covers Snodgrass's difficult fixtures. Also wanted to have a strong bench this week with Coutinho injury doubt, so will start Phillips then Snodgrass would come in for Coutinho if he doesn't play.

      Not terrible.

Valdes has roughly 2 good fixtures in the next 10 weeks. Just choose Heaton.

I wouldn't pick Pieters, Friend or VdH on WC.

I actually don't mind the Snodgrass pick, but Phillips should be downgraded to bench fodder to upgrade defence/GK.

is there any other sport besides football that after a player retires (more so players who were hugely respected and at big clubs) they are by default already better managers and have better potential than those who worked their socks off from the ground up and have years of experience behind them? you dont see it anywhere else. no one is going 'wow, le bron james would be an amazing baskeball coach' just because of how good a player he was. its strange that its really only football. Giggs rightly lost the swanse job to bob bradley but the fact that he was even in the running amazed me. Neville just handed the Valencia job. MK dons talking about Gerrard now, had even sounded out Lampard. All great players but there are hundreds ahead of them in terms of badges and experience that would be better suited yet get overlooked

also i dont think ivan lendl for example, was automatically seen as a coach material the second he hung up his racket, the way Gary Neville was. he worked at it and became the coach he is today, it wasnt just handed to him based on his talents as a player.

GNev was in no a highly skilled player. He worked hard to improve his quality, which is what a manager does. And he proved himself to be an a well-respected pundit, which showed his technical mind as well. His failure at Valencia can be attributed to many things. Big club, fanatic fans, foreign language, different type of league, his inexperience and the fact that maybe he isn't that good at transferring his knowledge. For every GNev and Maldini, there's a Pep and Zidane

I think the problem is the transfer market and player power. You need connections and a name to get players to come to your club, and you need the players to respect you. The respective treatment of Rafa and Zidane at Madrid is, imo, a testament to that.

    G2G? Was thinking Capoue/Stanislas > Snodgrass (-4) leaving me with 6.4/7.0 ITB.

    Pickford, Grant
    Walker, Morgan, Evans, Holebas*, Kingsley
    Capoue, Sterling, Coutinho*, Hazard*, Stanislas
    Lukaku, Aguero, Austin

Which one would you go for? Is it even worth taking the hit was? Couthino flag has worried me.

Don't really like the mids. Pedro not nailed and Chadli an injury doubt.

      Option 1

Already on a -4, worth a -8 to do Bellerin > Alonso? Just in case Coutinho doesnt play which would leave me with 10 men

I think that's worth a -4 for the time Bellerin is going to be out..

Thanks both, just looking at Chelsea's next 2 after this is quite off-puting but its either that or having to play PVA (LIV) which is worse

Hopefully this is one of those weeks where my team looks absolutely terrible on paper and they all end up scoring brilliantly.. 😐

Me too - see below! I might end up having to play Fletcher in time for an unlikely brace?? lol

Is this an OK xi? Just no idea what to do, so might as well leave it - did Haz in for Sanch as my FT:

    Pickford
    Walker Fuchs Pieters
Firmino Lallana* Hazard Allen (*Fletcher will come on for Lallana)
    Kun Kaku(c) Costa

I have 2.1 itb but unsure what to do with it - want to keep Lallana and hope he's alright next week, he's such good value as a Liverpool asset, plus I want Ozil and Austin to come in for Kaku and Allen next week.

Really stumped this week, but writing it out is helping me to think about it. Seems Costa and Hazard are both fine. Stick or twist, guys?

Stick. If Costa is out, get Kane.

        Hey buddy

Yeah I'm thinking so! Brunt and Nyom are both ? in terms of whether they're starting, and Jevans is too boring a transfer, plus I share your moral objection to owning if I can lol

I def want Kane lol, I'm considering just doing it anyway but I'm 2 points behind someone in my ML, doesn't seem worth it for the -4. Hopefully Conte makes the decision for me and tells me he's injured!!

You shaping up ok? Any more changes?

That's ok. As long as you have 3 decent def playing this gw, which you have imo, it should be fine.

Yeah I hope he will miss out, because he has been playing awfully well 😉

Mate I'm not so sure on saving my FT anymore. Allen could very well play deep in CM and Callum Wilson has a bad fixture and is s minor doubt.

Wilson to Austin is tempting me, as I'm very likely to bring him in next week anyway, if nothing radical happens.

Yeah idk, it's such an uncertain week in terms of who will play and lots of players' availability that I'm thinking more and more it doesn't seem worth making a move!

I do love Kane as an FPL asset though...

Both Costa and Hazard should be fine, though Costa to Kane isnt a bad shout. Think its best to stick and hope

I think you're good to go. Lukaku (c) is very tempting but Agüero was rested and Palace just lost Mandanda ...

I know - I've had it on Kaku for the last 2 weeks though so it's one of those situations where I'll kick myself if I change it. I tend to try to go with my first instinct otherwise things get messy. Kun and Kaku to score similarly this week I think.

Yea I did Sanchez -> Hazard too but I would probably have split my coverage if I were you as Costa seems the more reliable Chelsea asset. Anywho ye like me you're thinking about a double switch next week so probably hang fire and see what happens, unless you can do part of a of a specific change you'd do next week?

Costa to Kane will happen soon.

Well, I was thinking of Wally in for Lallana, then I could do Allen and Kaku out for Coutinho and Austin next week. However, the doubt over Walcott's wife being heavily pregnant is deterring me from that one!

So I'm just thinking I either replace Amat, my 4th defender, but I don't like any WBA option (Brunt/Nyom have ? over playing; Jevans is boring; Dawson 4yc; everyone in ML has McA so I don't wana copy!) and taking a -4 for a defender is never worth it. Or obviously just leave it! lol

What do you think is best?

You know what they say - if you're this unsure just hold out and decisions are made for you. Only take a hit when it's very very likely to more than repay itself that gameweek.

Hey guys should I take a hit on this team? 0.8 ITB

    Heaton (Foster)
Stones Alonso McAuley ( Smith Holebas )
Hazard Firmino Walcott Redmond ( Capoue )
    Kun Wilson Lukaku

Tempted to Capoue -> Snodgrass since I have a few re/yellow flags and would rather bench Redmond vs Liverpool.

That said I'll probably end up taking hits next week one way or another.

I think you'll be alright, wouldn't take a hit, it's strong enough - bound to be a lot of players rested this week. What do you think of my lot above? 🙂

Rate my team telling me to play Kone ahead of Koscielny. He does have a better fixture but are Sunderland really even capable of keeping a clean sheet?

    Both decent goal threats.

Same decision here, playing Kosc. Just don't trust Sunderland until they get at least 1 CS, although that'll likely be their ONLY CS..

Has to be Koscielny. Mourinho will no doubt play negatively against another big team. Also added goal threat.

But if there ever was a game to play Kone it would be this game.

I'd have been better of having a non playing 4m defender as I haven't played Kone yet!

I agree with you guys, I think Kos is the better choice, just.

Amat won't play? Do you currently have 3 playing defenders?

If you do, I wouldn't take the hit. If you only have 2 playing defenders then go for B!

Only have 2 playing, so my head says B. Really want to go for Brunt tho, but afraid he won't play, and I need a 100% starter.

McAuley is just as good option. Safer + big goal threat.

I'd be happy to go for B in your situation, think of it only as a 2 point hit. Good chance of a clean sheet for West Brom as well.

Nothing to lose now cowboys, may as well enjoy each week as if it's standalone having see-sawed between 800k and 1.5m the last 10 weeks or so. Here I am after a -20 (wahey!) - got Hazard/Coutinho/Alonso at start of International Break:

    Grant
    Brunt/Lovren/Alonso
    Mata/Hazard/Coutinho/Snodgrass
    Aguero/Kane(C)/Rashford

    Heaton/Allen/Holebas/Smith

    Sanchez/Bellerin/Lallana/Wilson/Payet/Amat OUT Coutinho/Hazard/Kane/Brunt/Snodgrass/Alonso IN
