Ibrahimovic Handed Three-Match Ban

The FA have this afternoon confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will serve a three-match ban for violent conduct following an altercation with Tyrone Mings during Manchester United’s weekend draw against Bournemouth.

Today’s news is set to have a major effect on the Fantasy Premier League transfer market as we look for alternatives to the 34.9% owned Red Devils frontman.

Ibrahimovic will miss the upcoming FA Cup quarter-final match against Chelsea, in addition to United’s next two Premier League fixtures against Middlesbrough and West Brom, before returning to contention in time for the Gameweek 31 home encounter with Everton on Tuesday, April 4.

Devoid of a Gameweek 28 fixture as a result of that Chelsea encounter, the Swede – who has scored just once in his last five league appearances – was already the number one asset for transfers out since the weekend deadline passed.

Over 34,000 former Ibrahimmovic owners have made the move to Harry Kane – Spurs may also without a league match this weekend but they then face Southampton and Burnley while the Swede spends his enforced time on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, 31,000+ have swapped him out for Romelu Lukaku as Everton host West Brom this weekend in the first of four favourable home fixtures in six, while Swansea’s Fernando Llorente – with five goals in six – has been an automatic replacement for over 14,000 FPL managers ahead of a weekend trip to Hull.

Arguably, the lack of viable options up top for a four-match Gameweek 28 slate may somewhat limit the exodus over the next few days, yet with the likes of Diego Costa facing Stoke and Palace over Gameweek 29-30, we can expect the transfers out to intensify next week once all the big guns are back in contention.

Nonetheless, as one of just three sides with two fixtures still to be scheduled – along with Arsenal and Southampton – there’s no doubt that the Swede still has a major part to play later in the season once the double Gameweeks are finally scheduled.

Nice grav btw - if the green portion is Ireland and the white lines represent England, exactly how divided are Ireland and what happened to the rest of the posse? 🙂

I'd rather have gone from 400k and 80K, with a week team next GW.

Honest question - Do you reckon that was a cause of planning for the blanks and populating a team with players that would play rather than players you felt like getting for a particular GW?

    Bottomed

    My current team

    Foster-Grant
    Luiz-Walker-Funes Mori-Pieters-Amat
    Firmino-Sterling-Phillips-Fletcher-Snodgrass
    Kun-Ibra-Kaku

    1FT, 0.2ITB

    What im thinking:
GW28 Ibra to Llorente and Sterling to Mane (-4) Will have 9 playing + amat
GW29 Philips to Eriksen and Kun to Kane (-4)

    What do people think?

    Thoughts on this Midfield+Attack:
T Carroll Siggy Mane Pedro Sanchez
    Lukaku Kane Gabbiadini
Would let me have a strong defence.

I've managed to own all of Alli, Ibra, Hazard and I think Kane during their longest blank spells this season. Also brought in Phillips and Tekkers the weeks they decided to stop scoring any points.

It has actually been a complete and utter disaster so far.

I think a lot of players who've been around the block are struggling this season. I'm not great at FPL (I mean, I'm okay-ish, I've played for years but I've never had a 'great' rank), but this season can't be rescued even though there's 10 or so weeks to go.

I'm with you an all fronts, never been a spectacular player, always wind up between 10 and 50K in the end (barring my first season when I started 10 weeks in).

Just can't seem to make good enough ground. Have had some weeks ranked at 1.2 million, scored well above average and only moved to 1.1 million. Have had others where I've scored the average or a point or two above/below and fallen from 1 million to 1.4 million. Don't think it's even about time commitment to it, just genuinely having a stinker.

Ugh, had a similar season after a good last few years. Lots of 50/50 decisions I've gotten wrong like those, where it had a clear potential upside but I haven't gotten the FPL Gods' approval 🙁

Yep. A few weeks ago summed it up well, I looked at Lukaku, I looked at Ibra, I looked at shots taken, chances in the box, everything and decided Ibra was the one to captain. Lukaku scores 4 goals. Think he had had 2 shots on target in his previous 2 games or something? 😛 Other people just reading the situation far better than I am this season, all credit too them.

Oh god, snap! Exactly the same reasoning. He could've had a field day if the match was rerun, he had so many chances I had to walk away from MoTD to the fridge on several occasions to get alcoholic beverages to deal with the pain.

I'm hoping my Aguero TC isn't another in the long line of misplays. Red card and missed pen vs. Stoke expected!!

Disclaimer, I know no-one cares; Analysis of my points hits this week. (-8)

Without transfers my points would be...

    Eriksen (2), Lukaku (6), Van Aanholt (6), Puncheon (3) = 17 points

    Sterling (6), Aguero (7), Kolarov (9), T.Carroll (6) = 27 points

2 point net profit so far.

    Would've captained Ibra so add the swing. Ibra (-2) + Lukaku (6) = 4, Ibra (-1) + Aguero (C) = 14

12 point net profit so far. Just a little proof that hits can be worth it when used effectively. Admittedly the Ibra (-1) is an anomaly to what we'd normally see but with 12 points profit with 3 including captain to go I'm happy.

Conclusion: THIS DGW, points hits were worth it. Arguments against this would be "what if I transferred Kane/Costa out", for me them fixtures/form were not for me to transfer them out, not that I own them.

Future Actions: DGW's and Blank GW's there's a clear case to be made for taking points hits if they don't mess your team up too much.

Unlucky with Alli tbh. Haz, not so much for me but still 20+ points from them two has gotta hurt. If you've got DGW's could still pay off. (Just).

Was probably a lucky move in hindsight, prior to the GW I was happy with it as wasn't expecting goals in that match.

I didn't watch the Tot Vs EVE match but I've got to say I feel lucky that he blanked with Spurs scoring 3 goals.

what about hits you have to make in the future?

e.g to get a team out for gw28

      1. greghammer95
        • 14 Years
        7 years, 2 months ago

I've currently got 8 out for GW28. Ibra to Kaku now (would've been Aguero), for free

Then Kolarov to Coleman will be the hit. BUT would've been PVA out for him anyways.

So this one should be looked at on its own. -1 point from this so far, hoping for profit this week but would've took a hit for PVA to Coleman next week anyways. Thought the gamble was worth it.

So I'll have ten out including Mane, Coutinho, Lukaku & Coleman. Annoyingly I own 3 WBA vs 3 EVE which I may look to not get Coleman, BUT I should look at this case on its own as tbh I see Coleman outscoring most defenders next week. Lovren/Clyne is an option but not one I like

Have Mane/Cout, but only got 7 playing so a -4 in order...

    A) Stirling for Siggy
    B) Aguero for Llorente
    C) Both for a -8

Yeah, solid team for gw28 but a worry for 29 and on. Lorente will be coming in after I watch a swansea game for myself.

He plays too deeply to really trouble the FPL mix for 'pool. If he suddenly goes on a run I might reconsider, but not now.

Slightly skewed by him scoring 4(?) goals in one game.

Has he managed an away PL goal yet? Didn't last season and hadn't thought he had this season.

Liverpool are too hot in form in general to be having wij, most have mane and one of firm/cout already and would probably bring in the second of firm/cout if they want more pool. If he really hits form he'll come as the 5th mid in 2-5-3 or in dgw's bench booster option.. but I'd rather have king atm and probably will be less attractive than Lanzini/tony of whu and chadli of wba..

Thoughts on the following for -8 for GW28

    Ibrahimovic to Lukaku
    Sterling to Antonio
    Stanislas to Barkley

Between the 3 of them players you'd expect them to outscore the other by 8 points. So on that basis yes, BUT think about the future shape of your team too and if it's what you want. GW30 & 31 aren't great weeks to own 2 Everton players and my guess it's likely you have Baines/Coleman/Funes Mori/Holgate too (I could've just said a defender).

    Heaton
    Mawson Baines Evans Robertson
    Sigurdsson Snodgrass Phillips Mane (v)
    Aguero (!) Lukaku (C)

    Bench: Pickford (!), Ibrahimovic (!), Cedric (!), Sterling (!)

    A) Sterling>Coutinho
    B) Sterling>King
    C) Other

It looks like Lukaku's (35%) is going to become the most owned player in FPL, he's already passed Ibra (34.6%) and is closing fast on Walker (36.5%) and Costa (35.5%)

I'm debating whether I captain him or not. Surely the dominant choice. But if he blanks could be a huge payoff in captaining Mane!

Ugh, decisions. Guess it's obviously got to be Kaku, right?
