About The Scout
First off I’m not putting myself forward as a football expert or even a Fantasy Football expert. I’ve no picture of myself with oversized cheque from a broadsheet editor to post here as proof of any credentials. However, during the many years I’ve played Fantasy Football I’ve always found that one of the key pleasures to be gained from playing is that it promotes opinion and discussion. That’s a small part of what this website is about. For what it’s worth, I’ll give you my opinion on players to buy, sell and sub , to some extent, just like a real-life scout. And, just like a real-life manager, it’s up to you how much weight you give it and how you use it.
The other 99% of this site is provided as a service to Fantasy Football Managers because I know from experience, just how much time can be spent prowling around the hundreds of football sites for the nuggets of information that will give you the edge. I’ve created this site so I can do the prowling for you and then hopefully present the news you need in an informative and maybe even, entertaining way.
The site will bring you football news but from the perspective of a Fantasy Football Manager. Every bit of news I post on this site will assess the impact on your Fantasy team. The site is not affiliated to any particular Fantasy Football game, but the stuff you’ll read here will hopefully be useful to you, no matter which game you’re playing.
As I’ve mentioned, it’s down to you how you use what you find here. I’ll endeavour to keep the site updated on a daily basis and its visitors well-informed, although the site is very much a hobby for me, or rather an extension of a hobby, so be understanding when my other commitments (work, relationships, bodily functions) come calling. Oh and just one little disclaimer - don’t go chucking teacups or lawsuits my way if one of my recommendations backfires or you lose out on a big cheque because of something you read here. Even real life scouts make mistakes, Rebrov, Balaban, Marlet. I could go on and I probably will. Just watch.
How does the site work?
Pretty much like any other site really. The news section on the front page is pretty straightforward, however, in that very news you’ll see that I regularly update other areas of the site like the Scout Picks, Team News and Injuries and Bans. These sections represent the core of the site and will hopefully be very useful to you as a Fantasy Football Manager.
Scout Picks
First off, you might have noticed that down the right-hand column there’s a team selection and some lovely tables listing players for each position. The team selection, or “Scout Picks” represents my chosen 11 for the current week based on a 4-4-2 formation with total disregard for any budget. Now I know what you’re saying “any fool can recommend I have Lampard and Ronaldo”. Fair point, however If you scroll down the column you’ll find the “Rankings” for each position which offer further, long-term, alternatives to my weekly selection.
Player Rankings
The rankings is simply a set of players for each position, ranked not according to any Fantasy Football points scored, but to a number of factors that I’ve considered over a period of the next five matches. Those matches are displayed in the “Forthcoming Fixtures” table you’ll find in the same right-hand menu.
Players are selected according to factors such as current form, club injuries, club morale, forthcoming fixtures and whether or not the player in question is likely to be a bargain in the Fantasy Games you’re likely to be playing. Rather than recommend an endless list of players, I’ll keep these tables to around 10 players for each position. So, while I may only recommend one defender from each club, alternative defenders at the same club can always be considered. The rankings change regularly and I’ll endeavour to post updates when I make significant changes to the ranking tables.
Team News
Here’s where you’ll find your team news for each club for the forthcoming matches. They’ll hopefully give you a clear insight into each clubs lineup prior to their next match. I’ll endeavour to update these throughout the week, adding more detail as I go and I’ll link to sources so that you can check things out and make your own mind up.
Injuries and Bans
A simple table listing the current injuries in the Premiership, along with suspensions and loans. There’s a number of these tables already out there, however, again I’ll endeavour to keep this updated on a daily basis, alerting you to changes and additions via the news section. I’ll also include information on the impact of any injury or suspension on the players club so if a regular starter is injured I’ll offer my opinion on which player is likely to gain his place in the team. Again, I’ll back all this information up with links to sources.
Scout Reports
These are simply in-depth features on a club. Here I’ll look to assess a players current Fantasy Football form or examine a particular club, their form, formation, tactics and discuss the players in their side you should consider in the week or months ahead as a result. I haven’t added these as yet, but once I’m in the swing of things, you’ll see these appearing regularly.
Features
When news is not enough I’ll let my fingers run riot over the keyboard and bang out a feature. God knows what subjects I’ll pick but hopefully these will offer more insightful discussions on subjects that will smooth your path to Fantasy Football glory. Or something.
Reviews
There are good Fantasy Football games and there are bad ones. My mission is to help you find the good ones before you cough up any registration fees. That’s why in this section I’ve reviewed all the top Fantasy Football games and offered my opinion. I’ll be updating these each season.
