Technical Area – The Rise of Ben Davies

It’s been quite a start to the season for Ben Davies. Currently leading all defenders in terms of points with 49 – a number which trails only Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku at any position – the Welshman’s form is inarguable.

In the six matches in which he has featured (Davies was rested for Spurs’ home encounter with Swansea in Gameweek 5), he has returned an average of 8.2 points per match (ppm) – more than a point clear of his closest rival (Antonio Valencia’s 6.7).

Last season, Davies performed admirably while deputising for the injured Danny Rose – racking up a goal and three assists, in addition to his share of Spurs’ league-leading clean sheet total. However, his attacking returns this campaign (two goals, three assists) have already exceeded last season’s totals in just 30% of the minutes.

In order to better interpret this attacking leap, we’ll be breaking down Davies’ early-season heroics, and looking for players who might serve as good benchmarks for projecting the Welshman’s performance over the remainder of the campaign.

to be honest, I don't care anymore about International football right now; that England team has lost all passion and heart, and they need to have a real kick up the backside instead of just carrying on to grind 1-0, 2-0s in the qualifiers and then get knocked out in the round of 16 at every major tournament

Had a drink with the Slovenian leftback at a nightclub once. I guess even he's easily capable of keeping Chamberlain out of the game.

David Luiz is 0.7 mill cheaper than Azpilicueta, and a whooping 1.1 mill cheaper than Alonso.

Walcott would be better than Oxlade-Chamberlain. 40m for him was the best piece of business Arsenal have ever done

Ox was a better RWB than Bellerin for the short period we played with wingbacks. He was worth more to Arsenal than he is to Liverpool, so it's swings and roundabouts for Arsenal.

Mostly swings or roundabouts for Liverpool (whichever is the negative one)

Indeed. The guy is clearly an idiot, he's finally find a formation and a position in which he nailed down a spot and in 3 months he was looking to walk away.

Walcott's contribution is making good runs and executing 1/10 situations. Chamberlain's was getting the ball forward, which is often quite a big problem for Arsenal. Shame this was the only thing he actually did and at any other position than RWB (where you can't let him single-mark a player either), he's completely useless.
That 1/10 execution is actually better in comparions, so yes, he would be better than Chamberlain.

I'm doing it, well putting in Jesus as well. If Lukaku goes mental then we are done for but the gambler actually calculated gambler in me is taking him out as I'll be captaining Kane and then hopefully Morata or Jesus and then after 2gw back to Kane. Kane left me trailing in August I'm hoping he pays me back.

I think I will transfer him out for Jesus as Im not on WC. Got to gamble at some point as its a game. I wont be captaining him for a few weeks so that limits the issue if he does well as other wont captain him. The upside with Jesus is there for the taking.
