Scout Scribbles – England Handed Sturridge Boost

Daniel Sturridge and Kyle Walker are available for England against Germany tomorrow. Aaron Ramsey is confident he’ll be ready for Arsenal’s home clash with Southampton, Samir Nasri talks up Manuel Pellegrini’s impact at City, Steven Fletcher is rested by Scotland, while Aly Cissokho is determined to secure a permanent transfer to Liverpool:

Sturridge and Walker Return to Fitness

The Liverpool forward has declared himself fit to face Germany tomorrow evening. Sturridge missed out on England’s home loss to Chile on Friday evening due to a foot problem but, speaking to the media yesterday afternoon, revealed:

“I’ve had a lot of treatment and done a lot of hard work hard and I’m raring to go. It was very frustrating to miss out on Friday because it is important for me to play for England and I am relishing every moment I get on the football field. It’s not a serious injury. Hopefully it will not continue to linger on as the scans show it is not a problem and I am delighted the pain is not as bad as it was. I’m looking forward to Tuesday. “

Hodgson was handed another boost by the news that Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker is available for tomorrow’s encounter. Walker also missed Friday’s game against Chile but, in an interview with FA TV last night, revealed he is “ready for selection”.

The Scout Says: The news will reassure Sturridge’s 36% of FPL owners as Liverpool brace themselves for a kind run of fixtures over the upcoming six. Brendan Rodgers’ side welcomes Norwich, West Ham and Cardiff to Anfield over that period and also make their way to Hull – despite scoring in eight of his 11 appearances, Sturridge has dropped 0.2 in price this week as the Luis Suarez bandwagon picks up pace, though. While there’s no denying Sturridge’s consistency, he’s managed just one set of double figures all season compared to the Uruguayans’ four hauls of 10+ points in six appearances – a clear indication of the captaincy credentials that has persuaded over 90,000 to draft the latter in since the end of the previous Gameweek…Walker has also been party to plenty sales this week. The Spurs defender has conceded just a single goal in the last four Gameweeks but with the injury and a difficult schedule hanging over him, been shipped by over 10,000 FPL managers – he’s set to face City and United in the next two and also squares up to Sturridge’s Liverpool in the upcoming five.

Ramsey Expects to Be Fit for Southampton Clash

Confusion surrounds the reason for the midfielder’s absence from Wales’ draw against Finland on Saturday evening. His national manager, Chris Coleman, was adamant that Ramsey missed out through illness:

“Aaron arrived with flu. He was ill last week before the Manchester United game, as were a lot of the Arsenal lads. He didn’t improve and could not finish the training session on Friday [the eve of the match].”

Ramsey, on the other hand, then took to twitter to insist he was forced out with a hamstring problem – regardless of the uncertainty surrounding the call-off, the good news for his 58% FPL owners is that he’s confident of a return in time for Arsenal’s home game against Southampton:

“Gutted to miss the game yesterday, my hamstring was tight after training. Medical staff didn’t want to risk me, will be fine for next weekend.”

The Scout Says: Given his recent run of Emirates displays, Ramsey’s owners will be confident of plenty more points as he prepares for three home games in four. The 7.3 priced midfielder has scored in each of the last three league games in front of his own fans and with an assist and six bonus points also thrown in over those fixtures, has racked up 30 points – essentially, an average of 10 points per home game since Mesut Ozil has arrived from Real Madrid. With the German earning 35 points over the same games, the Gunners duo look primed to continue plundering the points, with Hull and Everton also paying visit in the next four, in addition to a trip to Cardiff.

Cissokho Keen on Permanent Anfield Deal

Liverpool’s on-loan left-back is determined to earn a transfer to the Merseyside club when his current season-long loan deal from Valencia comes to an end. Talking to the club’s official website, Cissokho accepts Brendan Rodgers’ penchant for squad rotation at the back in recent matches:

“To start with, when you want to play in a team like Liverpool, you have to expect that there’s going to be high level of competition for each place, whether in central defence, midfield or in attack. The season is long, and there are a lot of matches to come. The coach makes, and will continue to make, his decisions, and it’s important to respect them so that the team can be in the best shape each Saturday. It’s a great source of pride for me every day to be able to play with players like this and to represent a big club like Liverpool, Of course, I am very happy to be here and I hope to stay here.”

The Scout Says: Having recovered from an ankle injury, Cissokho has started each of the last four Gameweeks for the Reds. Jose Enrique’s return to action saw the Frenchman subbed off on the hour mark against Fulham last time out, though, and with a recent move from 3-4-1-2 back to 4-4-2, his brief out of position stint on the left of midfield already looks over. With his manager continuing to utilise the depth of his defensive options, though, Cissokho and Enrique may ultimately cancel each other out as Fantasy options on the left, making Glen Johnson the only real secure option amongst Liverpool’s defenders.

Fletcher Rested from Scotland Duties

The Sunderland forward has been handed the night off from Scotland’s clash against Norway tomorrow night. Fletcher played the full 90 minutes in Friday’s goalless draw with USA but has been allowed to return to Wearside as the Black Cats look to manage his long-term fitness.

The Scout Says: Fletcher has now started each of the last four league games since recovering from a dislocated shoulder. Dropped to the bench for the recent Capital One Cup win over Southampton, though, it’s clear Gus Poyet is being cautious with his game time in a season where he has also been sidelined by an ankle injury. The Black Cats recent move to 4-1-4-1 saw Jozy Altidore benched, with Fletcher leading the line as the lone forward in the 1-0 win over City and with three road trips in four, Poyet will be desperate for Fletcher’s availability as he looks to replicate the home form which has harvested three successive win at the Stadium of Light in all competitions.

Nasri Praises Pellegrini Impact

The Frenchman has revealed the arrival of his new manager has been significant in a turnaround in form. Nasri lauded City’s attack-minded philosophy under Manuel Pellegrini and also hinted at the problems under Roberto Mancini last season, with the Italian publicly admitting he wanted to punch the midfielder due to his inconsistent performances:

“He [Pellegrini] does remind me of Arsene in respect of the way he works. He has the same approach in the way he talks to players and tells them when things are good and when they are bad. But it is always constructive and you always know what he wants from you, and what he wants you to bring to the team. I feel that he trusts me and that he gives me responsibilities on the pitch. When you have a manager like that, you want to repay that sort of faith – and that’s what I’m trying to do…The style we are playing suits my game and it suits David Silva’s because, when you have the ball, there is always a solution and that’s how it has to be if you want to play attractive football.”

The Scout Says: Having started six of the the last seven Gamweeks, Nasri has not only seen off the challenge of new boy Jesus Navas on the right, he’s turned in a series of displays which have made him a legitimate Fantasy contender under Pellegrini. So far, he’s produced attacking returns in six of the first 11 Gameweeks, racking up two goals and four assists – given he managed two goals and seven assists over 2012/13, the turnaround in fortunes has been stark. With Silva sidelined through injury for the second time already this season, the Frenchman – owned by only 3% of Fantasy managers – could be poised for increased investment as Pellegrini’s side welcome Tottenham and Swansea to the Etihad in back-to-back matches; City are now the last remaining side to have won every home game, averaging four goals per game in front of their own fans.

He is paid by the club. By letting him rest for these non important friendlies, it build a relationship with the club who will be more likely to release him in good spirits for the important matches. It also means Bale isnt stuck in the middle of a shouting match between Madrid and Wales.

I honestly think it's all just blown out of proportions. Interviewed on the situation of his countryman and club teammate, all he probably said was that for KDB personal situation, coming into the WC would be better if he is playing regular football.
"Hazard tells KDB to leave Chelsea".

He's looked good the past few games, overall though is the lack of bonus potential worth the small attacking potential advantage? So far it's 4 baps to Kos and 1 to Sagna... also 0.1M more expensive.

Apologies in advance for the length of this post but the pages are hardly flying by!

Last week, to widespread indifference, I posted the fixture schedules including cup games for all teams between GW12 and GW20 which effectively encompasses the busy Christmas period (23 Nov - 1 Jan). (http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/6020082 http://imgur.com/G147rRU&blbYqiY http://imgur.com/G147rRU&blbYqiY#1) The idea was to try to highlight which teams have the biggest fixture pile up and therefore who might be rotating the most. To put this in better context I've done a bit of digging to look at the extent to which rotation bit last season over the same period. (The period actually equates to GW13-21 last season)

Below is a summary table designed to give a snapshot of the clubs rotating the most. Although I've drawn a few points out I haven't attempted to properly summarise all the data because there's simply too much to potentially mention so what I propose is that if anyone has any specific queries on particular clubs/players I'll check back on this post regularly and answer as best I can.

Obviously there have been a number of managerial changes, widening of player pools, etc. so I'm not suggesting this is a definitive guide to likely rotation, just that historical data can sometimes be useful. I've included Wigan from the relegated clubs for the purposes of assessing Martinez's attitude to rotation but I haven't done the legwork for the promoted clubs, if someone wants to do that feel free 🙂

    Team ----- Matches ----- 100% Start ----- 100% Play ----- Players Used
    EVE ------ -----9------ ----- -------7-------- ----- ------8-------- ----- ---------21-------
    SOT ------ -----8------ ----- -------7-------- ----- ------7-------- ----- ---------23-------
    WIG ------ -----9------ ----- -------5-------- ----- ------8-------- ----- ---------17-------
    STO ------ -----9------ ----- -------5-------- ----- ------7-------- ----- ---------17-------
    SUN ------ ----10----- ----- -------5-------- ----- ------7-------- ----- ---------20-------
    LIV -------- -----9------ ----- -------5-------- ----- ------6-------- ----- ---------18-------
    TOT ------- -----9------ ----- -------4-------- ----- ------6-------- ----- ---------20-------
    AST ------- -----9------ ----- -------4-------- ----- ------5-------- ----- ---------23-------
    NOR ------ -----9------ ----- -------4-------- ----- ------5-------- ----- ---------21-------
    WHM ----- -----8------ ----- -------3-------- ----- ------8-------- ----- ---------20-------
    MCI -------- -----9------ ----- -------3-------- ----- ------5-------- ----- ---------22-------
    ARS ------- -----8------ ----- -------3-------- ----- ------4-------- ----- ---------19-------
    NEW ------ -----9------ ----- -------3-------- ----- ------3-------- ----- ---------21-------
    CHE ------- -----8------ ----- -------2-------- ----- ------5-------- ----- ---------19-------
    FUL -------- -----9------ ----- -------2-------- ----- ------3-------- ----- ---------21-------
    SWA ------ -----9------ ----- -------1-------- ----- ------5-------- ----- ---------19-------
    WBA ------ -----9------ ----- -------1-------- ----- ------3-------- ----- ---------21-------
    MUN ------- -----9------ ----- -------1-------- ----- ------2-------- ----- ---------23-------

Matches = Games played in the period
100% Start = Number of players that started every game in the period
100% Play = Number of players that appeared in every game in the period
Players Used = Total number of players that appeared in the period

    Some initial observations:

Moyes rotated least of all last season but Man Utd rotated the most - hard to know which way it will go this time.

Everton should be reliable - Martinez rotated little at Wigan and Everton are a club used to that treatment.

Southampton, Stoke and Sunderland were low on rotation last year but all have changed managers since.

Liverpool under Rodgers were reasonably predictable, with no cup games to worry about this should be the case again.

35 players played every minute of the Xmas period.

Liverpool: Gerrard, Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel (incidentally, Suarez started 8 of the 9)

Man City: Hart, Y Touré, Silva (Zabaleta and Aguero started 8 of the 9)

Yep, a lot of things have changed since last year so there's limited use to the data but I thought it might be an interesting exercise anyway with all the talk of rotation to see how big an impact it really has.

Great post mate. So based off of this, and allowing for other factors (bigger squads, managers, etc) who would you reckon would be worth getting in?

Benteke, Everton and Liverpool players are the stand outs

Southampton too but I really don't like their fixtures

Yep, agree with the Benteke, Liverpool, Everton options. Worth noting that although everyone rotated to some extent, every team had at least a couple of ever presents - identifying them could be key. Defences are generally more stable than midfield and attack so these are the important ones to find. Personally I'd say the good, almost nailed on striking options are:

        Suarez
        Benteke
        Sturridge (fitness permitting)
        Aguero
        Remy
        RVP/Rooney/Giroud

        In roughly that order.

        Just my opinion though!

Just confirms to me that teams in European competition are best avoided unless somebody is totally nailed on - like Giroud. Sure I have Ozil, Hazard and Nasri at present - but I'm not too comfortable about it. First sign of missing a Prem game for anything bar injury and they are out.

Other factor to consider is how quickly these teams can qualify (if at all) from their groups - and can then afford to play their B squads. Spurs pretty much already do this but they can afford to with such weak opposition - Swansea to a lesser extent but the rest have to play their big guns at the higher level.

At the moment my lineup is Hazard Ramsey Sess Brady Ravel. So it's the last two spots. I have a very low TV and Aguero + Suarez up front so this is about what I can afford.

So you're going with the go for broke 5 mid's. I guess you can't go wrong with Ravel and Brady. Just hope that Brady is fit again and back in form.

Seem like solid picks for picking up TV and both differentials...for now!

I can only afford one big hitter unless I go 3 cheapies + 2 big, I feel Ramsey is too good of an option right now to do that. Hazard can become Walcott or Silva later if needed, fixtures are great for now though so no worries there.

Thanks, yeah Brady seems central to everything (however little ;))Hull does when he plays. Just hoping he's ready for Palace at home.

I think you've got a good lineup. Given Hazards hot and cold play style I'm not sure about him, and Chelsea are playing the Hammers at home (solid def) but like you said you can easily change to someone else later.

Yeah, I genuinely cannot see any solid options at that price (9-ish). Coutinho hasn't show enough, Gerrard is an injury doubt and I currently got my 3 LFC players, Silva out, Michu out, Walcott not fit... people keep forgetting how good Hazard is at his best, and he's a flat-track bully which coincides well with the fixtures coming.

Agreed with Courtinho, I'd love to bring him in but he's off form at the moment. Gerrard should be fine, to be honest, keep an eye on him as I actually wanted to bring him in but just didn't as my rival in the ML has him and I need a differential to progress.

I think it's best not to read through the comments too often, like prior to last weekend, everyone was going on about how Hazard might not play vs West Brom and that he may be benched. And today, it seems like Hazard has commented on KDB saying he should leave the club and now people are saying Hazard won't play on the weekend and may be benched. Im thinking another hazard assist and goal this weekend then.

I didn't like Ghost in the Shell myself. Worlds End is awful (it's the Simon Pegg one right?). Memento is good and TGWTDT is also good. Swedish one of american remake?

TGWTDT is the Americian Remake 🙁

They only reason I got Ghost in the Shell is because I felt like watching some Anime and it was one of the highest rated on IMDB

Memento is 2 classes above the other 3 on any movie rating criteria you can come up with. Its not a boring drama or anything, the thing flies by and you want more when it finishes.

Dragon tattoo is ok for time killing, but the swedish original from 2011 is better. The worlds end is a great movie for what it is. Ghost in "the" shell is a different beast again. When ure up for anime, grab it.

To be honest, I'm not overly mad on the films you've suggested, maybe try American Psycho or American History X?
But yeah, at the same time Memento is a pretty class film and TGWTDT is pretty good. One of those.

Long story short. We were having problems with a slipform paver and the level on the concrete was all bobbly. There is one fellow there that is from the technical department aka "Mr know it all".

Anywho, client and a few project verifiers as well as a few engineers were on site discussing something completely off topic. "mr know it all" comes it basically from nowhere and in the midst of everyone talking just busts in and says the above. :S

I think you need a Southamton defender and with their hard fixtures coming up I'd go Boruc for the save points and then eventually back to clean sheets again. You already have GJ for Liverpool and that would leave you some cash left over to get a better defender then Rosenior/Vlaar

Morning all. How we doing? Super confused as to what to do....1ft and 1m

    Myhill (boruc)
    Baines vidic burner (Dawson Wilson)
    Ramsey hazard Nasri januzaj (Barkley)
    Suarez Lukaku aguero

    Defense:
    - it's very weak as Dawson/burner have two tough games, vidic has gametime risk and poor form, Wilson is deadwood. For this coming gw alone, need a third def with a decent fix to start alongside vidic/Baines....so remove either Wilson or Dawson?? To 5.5m or 6.2m def respectively

    Midfield:
    - I am only unhappy abut my 2 cheapies who have massive gametime risk....who to ship first? Barkley I think to a 6.4m mid? Just short for sess...snod?

    Attack:
    - happy with my strike force...thought if remy but keeping Lukaku till benteke or giroud Rehit some form

So in light of of above,
    A: remove def....probably Wilson
    B: remove Barkley....upto 6.4m
    C: remove Wilson + Barkley >> 4.2m def + sess (-4)

The captain poll is more indicative of ownership than realistic projections.

Aguero comes out top as everyone owns him and wants him to do well. People have FPL goggles and refuse to accept that United players look better on paper this week for hauls.

I always treat it as a "who is the best player to captain, assuming all choices were available to you" poll. Pretty sure that's how it's intended and it's certainly the only way to make it truly useful. Strongly suspect you're right though and most people pick the player in their team they like best.

There will be a new tv show on our screens soon: 'The Only Way Is Eden.'

Not the brightest is he?! What a ridiculous thing to say about KDB, Jose is gonna like that.

As for Sturidge, he is permamently injured even when he plays. Will be interested to see if he withdarws today and what BR says in his presser later in the week.

Let's not make a mockery of the system.

I struggle to grasp how a post which contains such inaccurate information can receive so many +1 whilst exceptional posts at times don't even warrant a reply.

I'm all for humour etc but all of this "it's the funniest thing ever" is a bit over the top. Yes it was quite funny but come on people, if it was someone like forca or possibly myself it would be "you are an idiot, you know nothing" type of replies

OK he did but let's not presume everyone is the same. I guess we got lucky this time with him being a laid back person. Let's not assume everyone is the same is what I am saying, some people will take it to heart and think the whole site is mocking him.

You may think I have no sense of humour and I am being too serious but I have had it numerous times where people mock me and then others do it just because someone else did and then I have this tag of being something I am not. I feel strongly about this type of thing so just making sure things don't get out of hand.

sorry bud i think you have chosen the wrong post to use as example,
this was classic fail which made it worth the +1, this site is about entertainment as well as info.
I find a lot of the the long winded facts based post pointless but dont care if people put them up or upvote them.
though i do agree you did take it hard for a while, more so than you deserved, but you were like a new puppy at times looking for a desire to please.
Though if you notice many people now respond positively to you this season as your posts are more mature and thoughtful, where as before you just seemed to be trying to create a role for yourself on here like Demi but came across as a bit desperate.

Fairly sure that's not true (the Bemba/Forca effect) although it's difficult to prove, but actually, stripping away the Lamela element still leaves a good post with useful research. The crazy fail part of it was great fun though 🙂
