Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again as Fantasy managers prepare for a quick turnaround in fixtures ahead of tomorrow’s 7.30pm deadline. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

With Diego Costa suspended for Chelsea’s home encounter against Spurs, Sergio Aguero is the standout armband candidate according to the votes cast so far. Despite failing to score in back-to-back matches for the first time this season, the City talisman has earned over 35% of the votes cast as the champions travel to a Sunderland side that has conceded just two goals in the last four and kept the league leaders at bay on Saturday.

Wayne Rooney is next in line as United look for a fourth straight win under Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils’ skipper has netted in successive league matches and is up against a Stoke defence that has been breached in each of the last seven – he’s persuaded over 16% to give him the nod. Robin van Persie remains a real differential for the Potters’ clash, with just 3% looking to the Dutchman to carry on from last weekend’s goal and assist at home to Hull.

Swansea are heavily backed for the visit of QPR – understandable, given that Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded more goals on their travels than any other team. With six goals in his last seven, Wilfried Bony earns 11% of the votes, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is next in line, having played a part in eight of his side’s 11 home goals so far.

Eden Hazard (7%) and Alexis Sanchez (5%) are also amongst the favourites. With Costa sidelined, Chelsea will be looking for the Belgian to score for the fourth successive home match as Spurs roll up to the Bridge, whilst Sanchez’ owners will be hoping for a return to form – he’s now blanked in each of the last two since being moved back to the flank.

Just raged transfered AdM to Oscar, so I can upgrade Clyne to a Chelsea defender next week.
In hindsight, this was a stupid move.

What were your moves this week DZ?

🙁 Fab was the preferred options, but his tightrope convinced me otherwise.
Mirallas was the other go-to, but I think my frontline w/o Rooney is good for now

Oscar has a high ceiling this GW w/o Costa. Will hopefully come good, though not too confident on keeping him long term

Fab would have been the better choice if it wasn't for the 4 yc's, although if he gets booked against Hull he will miss the cup game instead - at least that's what I'm hoping. 🙂

Probably, but long term it leaves with a rather weak defense with Duff injured & Dummet's fixtures turning sour. Good point on the cup game, Mou might very well plan that out

    Armband bony.
Pros: differential, QPR, playing at home, in form.
    Cons: risky

    Armband aguero:
Pros: safe, world class, in form,
Cons: playing away, SUN in solid defensive form,

    I'm thinking bony.

    Am I missing anything?

Well I will just say my opinion. The reason we don't rate him so highly is because he wasn't a goal threat. His shots were nonexistant and everyone has him because of his assist and bps potential. But after 5 shots on the weekend he is now a goal threat. If swansea score big he will have a monster week

Such a defensive home team? I think people are over-rating Sunderland a bit here. They've shored up a bit but they are not rock solid. SOuthampton were the defensive team going into the weekend and City smashed them open with 10men.

it was 0-0 at half time, if cork had replaced schn it would've been about 1-0. Soton had to use yoshida. Sunderland are more defensive, that's coming from someone who doubled on soton defence. Soton just know how to bore lesser teams to death

Hard to say. Aguero should have had a pen and that couldve changed the game too. The fact remains that Aguero has the potential to score big against any opposition.

QPR will go back to being very defensive against a superior Swansea side.
Swansea may not get many chances.

A couple of weeks ago we all had QPR down as being resilient.

Since I will be missing the transfer deadline, is it wise to captain Rooney? I figure he will either start or be out injured, but won't be a substitute.

I'd consider him alright but I think Aguero carries the bigger threat.

Hold Clyne -> Azpi (-4) yeah?

I have no upcoming transfer plans.

Although I have a feeling Cesc might pick up a yellow card this GW and I have to do a transfer (him to Eriksen looks good)..

Probably not worth a -4. But then again it would have been worth it last week. Other defenders?

Guys should I start Cameron? Yes he plays United away but he is likely to play in the midfield with Whelan and Sidwell out. Almost kept a CS against Liverpool.

    Other defenders are, Dummett,Duff,Baines,Rangel

The fact that the fixtures are starting. To come thick and fast and he's not often capable of more than 1 game a week, he loves a yellow, he's blanked more recently and when he scored he got no baps.
