De Zeeuw returns, Huth is back tonight and Luke Moore scores again. What Fantasy Football clues lie in the dark reaches of reserve team football? Read on to find out…
Wigan skipper Arjan De Zeeuw came through 90 minutes of a reserve game against Man United last night. Wigan won the match 2-0 with goals from Aghahowa and Johansson. De Zeeuw now looks certain to go straight back into the Wigan lineup for the game against Fulham on Saturday week with Boyce injured and Hall still suspended. Aghahowa’s goal is also likely to put him into contention, although he is unlikey to dislodge Hesky and Folan in the starting 11.
Sheffield Utd fielded a strong side in their 4-0 win over Darlington on Tuesday. The team included Gillespie, Nade, Bromby, Leigertwood, Alan Quinn, Webber. Nade hit a hat-trick and therefore could come into contention against Chelsea next weekend. Gillespie and Leigertwood are the other two names who could make an impact on the lineup for that match.
Everton’s Tony Hibbert played a full 90 minutes of their reserve clash against Blackburn Rovers which could see him earn his place back in the first 11, pushing Neville into midfield in the absence of Cahill against Arsenal.
Bolton had David Thompson, Andranik and Cesar Martin in their lineup against Newcastle on Monday but only Thompson seems likely to break into the 11 for the trip to Man United next time out.
It seems that Chris Coleman is still not convinced by Clint Dempsey’s credentials. The midfielder played a full 90 for their reserves against Charlton on Tuesday night. Fulham lost 5-1 with Charlton trialist Chris Dickson scoring twice – one to watch maybe. Charlton fielded a strong side that included Hughes and Faye in midifeld, both of which have been squeezed out of first team action by the arrival of Song from Arsenal. Diawara and Zheng Zhi also lined up for the Addicks.
Luke Moore scored again – that’s 5 in 5 for Villa’s reserves – as they beat West Ham 2-0. Aaron Hughes got the other goal. Both sides fielded strong sides Hughes, Jlloyd Samuel, Osbourne, Ridgewell, Gardner, Davis, Angel and Moore lined up for Villa. While the Hammers had Spector, Mullins, Collins, Blanco and Boa Morte in their side. Of those players its Moore, Collins and Boa Morte who seem most likely to break into first teams next time out.
Man City’s reserves play Preston this afternoon and Paul Dickov will play. If he proves his fitness and does well, I can see him earning a quick recall to the first team, given City’s current woes.
Finally Boro’s Robert Huth is set to lineup for their reserves tonight against Liverpool. His first appearance since breaking his foot back in December. Huth’s return will mean some competition for Pogatetz for the place alongside Woodgate in the Boro defence. Huth will be alongside the likes of Rochemback, McMahon, Euell and Adam Johnson in the Boro reserve side.
