Michael Owen has took another step in his rehabilitation on Tuesday as he trained alongside fellow long-term absentee Shola Ameobi. The pair got through an hour-long training session, running on their injuries and Owen was even seen to be doing some light ball work. According to the Daily Mail Owen is now on track to return within the month.
The progress of Owen and Ameobi is fairly significant, not so much because these two are worthwhile Fantasy purchases but because of their effect on fellow Newcastle players. Martins has become a favourite Fantasy buy, rightly so given his form. But with Owen returning in April, this would provide some disruption to Martins who would have to adapt to play alongside the Englan man for the final few matches. Owen’s return could have a positive effect on Martin’s Fantasy points, but it’s an unknown variable – something, at this stage in the season, you can do without. That could be worth considering if you’re looking to Martins as a player to take you to the end of the season. Also, if you own Sibierski or Dyer, the return of Ameobi and Owen is likely to spell the end of these two being employed as makeshift partner for Martins.
