Wigan’s Scharner comes through 90 minutes, whilst De Zeeuw looks set to start against Fulham on Saturday after being subbed on the hour mark. What other team selection clues can you glean from this week’s reserve games? Read on to find out…
Christian Dailly, James Collins, John Pantsil, Jonathan Spector and Carlton Cole all turned out for West Ham’s reserves in a 0-0 draw against Chelsea. Only Collins seems likely to threaten the first 11 come Sunday’s match with Blackburn. Interestingly, Paulo Ferreira turned out for Chelsea, ruling him out of tonight’s game at City.
Victor Anichebe appeared for Everton’s reserves in a 2-1 defeat to Man City but it was James Vaughan who caught the eye by netting the Everton goal.
Wigan fielded De Zeeuw, Cotterill, Scharner and Aghahowa in there 2-0 defeat to Liverpool. De Zeeuw was subbed on 70 minutes, clear indication that he will return on Saturday against Fulham. Scharner meanwhile played a full 90 in his first match since returning from his knee operation, a hint that perhaps the bench is the most he can hope for. That seems likely now that Skoko and Landzaat have taken their chance in Wigan’s midfield.
Chambers, Doyley, Hoskins and McNamee all lined up for Watford’s reserves in their 2-1 win over Villa. Chambers played an hour before being subbed and looks most likely to threaten for a place in the side for Saturday’s game at Spurs.
