According to reports surfacing tonight, Frank Lampard has suffered a broken toe which could keep him out of the Community Shield this weekend and Chelsea’s opener with Birmingham the following week. Lampard is reported to have broken the toe some weeks ago in training but the full damage inflicted was not revealed until an x-ray which took place today. This is obviously major news for Fantasy Managers, with Lampard a cert to be amongst many Manager’s early season signings. In the short term, his absence looks likely to hand Steve Sidwell an early chance to impress.

*Update* It could be that Lampard lines up for Chelsea after all, if Jose risks playing him following a pain-killing injection. Chelsea have issued a statment indicating that he will indeed play a part in the game.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
