Paul Scholes made a shock return to the United lineup tonight in a 4-0 win over Dunfermline. The midfielder had surgery on a knee injury just two weeks ago and was expected to be out throughout August. However, Scholes completed the 90 minutes tonight and set up Rooney for his second goal and therefore seems likely to get a starting role in Saturday’s game against Reading. Hargreaves also started the game and could be in the reckoning as could Nani who stood out in United’s other friendly tonight as they Glentoran 3-0. You can find more details on these games here.
