Benni McCarthy has been omitted from hospital and has travelled back with his Blackburn team-mates after this afternoon’s head injury scare. The prolific striker was carried off with his neck in a brace and with an oxygen mask fitted after collapsing during today’s game with Boro. McCarthy had clashed heads with Riggott moments earlier, seemed okay, then collapsed whilst being examined by the Rovers physio.
McCarthy could well be rested for the midweek UEFA cup tie as a precaution. Hughes could afford to take such a measure given that Santa Cruz and Derbyshire both came off the bench to score today.
