Emile Heskey is likely to be sidelined for weeks after injuring his ankle in yesterday’s victory over Blackburn [source]. Heskey appeared to land awkwardly on his ankle and was stretchered from the field. He reportedly left the ground on crutches and will undergo x-rays to assess the full damage. However, Steve Bruce is already preparing for the worst.

“I can’t see Emile being fit for the next few weeks for sure,” he remarked.

“He will have a scan and X-rays in the next 24, 48 hours”, added Bruce.

Heskey has just returned from a series of injuries but had never really had the opportunity to return to full fitness for his new manager. It now seems certain that Heskey will sit out the Christmas programme leaving Bent, Aghahowa and Sibierski to lead the charge.

Sibierski is also battling for fitness with hamstring problems and it’s therefore odds on that Bruce will look to land at least one striker in the transfer window. Bent however struck a hat-trick in yesterday’s game and given Wigan’s fixtures to come, has emerged as a very decent budget buy for Fantasy Managers.

Wigan face Fulham away next, followed by home games with Newcastle and Villa.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
