There could be a lot of Fantasy Managers looking for keepers over Christmas as both United’s Van der Sar and Chelsea’s Cech appear to be sidelined.
United have definitely lost their number one over Christmas. Ferguson confirmed today that Van der Sar will miss the next “two or three” games with a groin injury that kept him out of today’s clash with Everton [source]. Kuszczak came in today and is set to keep goal over United’s next few games at Sunderland, West Ham and perhaps at home to Birmingham. There’s sure to be a lot of interest in him over the next few days, considering his value in most fantasy games.
Meanwhile, Chelsea could well have lost Cech for the Christmas period after he hobbled out of today’s game with Blackburn with a hip injury. Cech collided with Santa Cruz earlier in the game and never fully recovered. Hilairio eventually replaced him after the hour-mark after Cech signalled that he had to come off. That would appear to indicate that the injury will be severe enough to keep him out of the Boxing Day clash with Villa and perhaps the home game with Newcastle too. Cudicini is the obvious replacement for those games but he too is recovering from a rib injury and is a doubt for the Blackburn game. That could see Chelsea turning to Hilario.
