Carlos Tevez is already classed as a major doubt for United’s FA Cup tie with Villa at the weekend after suffering an ankle injury in Tuesday victory over Birmingham. Tevez suffered a blow to his ankle in the first half of the match. He played on but by the end of 90-minutes was clearly in trouble and was carried to the dressing room by United backroom staff.

United will apparently assess the extent of the injury later today, but Ferguson appears to have already written Tevez out of the Villa game.

“We had to bring him off and we will assess him on Wednesday morning to see what damage there is. Obviously, he is doubtful for Saturday now”, remarked Ferguson after the game.

United won’t be panicking with Rooney likely to return from illness to take his place in the United lineup but there will obviously be many thousands of fantasy managers waiting keenly for any prognosis from Old Trafford.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
