Chelsea aren’t having much luck with keepers this season. Just a few days after first choice Cech got took himself to hospital after chewing on Ben Haim’s boot in training, Cudicini followed him to the treatment room after twanging a hamstring in tonight’s Champions League Quarter Final win over Fenerbache.

Cech is already due to miss the Premiership games with Everton and Wigan next week and is touch and go for a return for the Champions League semi in a fortnight. Cudicini meanwhile is set for a three-week spell on the sidelines with tonight’s injury, which once again paves the way for Hilario to play a part in Chelsea’s season. He replaced Cudicini tonight and seems almost certain to start on Monday against Wigan and again on Thursday when Grant takes his side to Goodison.

Could Hilario represent some value in those games? Possibly, although it must be said, the Chelsea back four never looks as secure with Cech and has certainly faltered with Hilario between the posts in the past.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
