Liverpool have completed the signing of Italian full-back Andrea Dossena from Udinese [source]. The fee is fashionably undisclosed, however reports suggest that around £7 million may have changed hands.
Dossena is seen as a straight replacement for the departed Riise. He will compete for the left-back spot along with Aurellio and to a lesser extent Arbeloa, handing Rafa more options in defence and fantasy managers further uncertainty as to the Liverpool defensive lineup on a weekly basis.
Earlier in the week Rafa sealed a deal for Swiss full-back Philipp Degen, a player who gives Liverpool further options at right-back. With Agger returning from injury, there are little or no certainties within the Liverpool defence – even Carragher could be rotated more often this season, with Skrtel already having proved his worth.
Looking at the Fantasy Premier League stats so far today, it appears this uncertainty has already been enough to put off the majority of fantasy managers. Carragher is currently sitting 17th in the rankings in terms of buys for defenders with just 9% of FPL managers investing in the centre-back. Ferdinand and Lescott by comparison are currently owned by 26% and 25% of managers respectively.
