Chelsea’s injured pairing – Didier Drogba and Jose Bosingwa, are both back in light training this week.
Neither are expected to be available for the first game of the season against Portsmouth at the Bridge but they are in line for a return at the end of the month, with the home game with Spurs on August 31 the likely return date for them both.
Bosingwa has the best chance of making it back before that, possibly for the trip to Wigan on August 24. He is due to return to full training next week.
Scolari could turn to either Ivanovic or Ferreira to replace Bosingwa, while Anelka seems set to get a start while Drogba remains sidelined.
Interestingly, Chelsea named their squad numbers today with Ivanovic at the number 2 shirt and Argentinian striker, Franco Di Santo, at number 9. We shouldn’t read too much into that however, Andriy Shevchenko has the number 7 shirt.
