Liverpool have confirmed that Fernando Torres suffered a tear in his hamstring in Sunday’s draw at Villa.
The striker had a scan on the injury earlier today and a club spokesman has stated that “He is expected to be out for between two and three weeks”. That would class the injury as a second degree strain, which normally has a recovery time of around 3 weeks.
This prognosis would see Torres miss the Premiership clash with United on September 13th and he would also face a battle to be fit for the Champions League clash with Marseille the following Tuesday. Liverpool follow that game with a home fixture with Stoke on September 20th which would seem the most likely return date.
Ryan Babel is likely to earn starts in the absence of Torres although Rafa also has the likes of Ngog and Krisztian Nemeth
